Chapter 233: You Seem More Like the God of Thunder Than I Do
"Sitwell, have you found them?"
Washington, S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, Triskelion Building.
Alexander Pierce, former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., current Secretary of the World Security Council, and leader of the HYDRA branch within S.H.I.E.L.D., looked at the screen in front of him and asked the bald agent inside.
Back then, he valued Nick Fury's abilities, believing that Fury could elevate S.H.I.E.L.D. to greater heights while also allowing HYDRA, hidden within S.H.I.E.L.D., to develop more effectively.
That's why he passed the director position to Nick Fury.
And time proved just how wise his decision had been.
Originally, S.H.I.E.L.D. was just another agency under the U.S. government, on par with the CIA or the FBI.
But under Nick Fury's leadership, it became the world's top security organization. Except for a few countries, most gave it a green light, allowing it to monitor virtually the entire globe.
If S.H.I.E.L.D. monitored the entire world, that meant HYDRA monitored the entire world.
The technology, intelligence, and resources that S.H.I.E.L.D. obtained could be shared with HYDRA, while the technology, intelligence, and resources of HYDRA were inaccessible to S.H.I.E.L.D.
Thus, HYDRA's strength always surpassed that of S.H.I.E.L.D.
If development had continued this way, he could have gradually transformed all of S.H.I.E.L.D. into HYDRA, and under his influence, Nick Fury would have perfectly executed the Insight Project.
At that point, the entire world would have unknowingly fallen under HYDRA's control.
Unfortunately, some issues had arisen recently. He discovered that Nick Fury had begun to suspect him and was even investigating all of S.H.I.E.L.D., forcing him to launch his plan ahead of schedule.
Fortunately, many high-ranking government officials in various countries were HYDRA agents, preventing Nick Fury from exposing his crimes through official channels, forcing a battle in the shadows.
You had to admit—Nick Fury truly was the greatest agent, capable of raising S.H.I.E.L.D. to such heights. Despite lacking any advantages, he still managed to suppress them.
Unfortunately for Fury, Pierce had more contingency plans—especially the spies he had planted.
Finally, today, he had completely eliminated Nick Fury. S.H.I.E.L.D. was now reduced to a mere handful, no longer a threat.
However, one matter still concerned him—Fury's source of intelligence.
The famous Professor X and the X-Men, who had saved the world multiple times, were a huge threat to HYDRA. Such enemies absolutely could not be left alive.
That's why he didn't eradicate them completely, instead luring minor players like Coulson to lead them to the school's location, planning to wipe them all out in one strike.
"No. We've combed through this entire area, but found not even a trace."
"Looks like those mutants really are something."
Pierce sneered coldly:
"Launch a full-scale bombardment. Flatten that entire area. I don't believe they won't show themselves."
The three Helicarriers were already in the final stages of testing, and would soon take off. There was no longer a need to hide. Bombing the area directly could serve as a small opening act to their world domination.
And based on intelligence, with Professor X's personality, even if the mutants had powers to protect themselves from the attack, he would not stay silent for the sake of nearby civilians.
Enemies like that were the easiest to manipulate.
He always believed that Professor X was still the leader of the mutants. As for the "George" mentioned in the intel, he was just a decoy meant to mislead them.
"What about Garrett and the others?"
Sitwell hesitated. If they carried out such a large-scale bombardment, Garrett and Grant likely wouldn't survive either.
Pierce raised an eyebrow:
"To sacrifice their lives for the great HYDRA is an honor. We will remember their contributions."
"Hail HYDRA!"
Sitwell instantly understood Pierce's meaning and immediately shouted the slogan.
"Sitwell, something's wrong with the weather outside!"
At that moment, a tall and abnormally strong figure suddenly appeared on the screen.
Upon seeing Pierce, he immediately gave a HYDRA military salute.
"Crossbones, what do you mean the weather's wrong?"
Sitwell showed a puzzled expression. The weather shouldn't affect them—they had elite, well-trained troops who could complete the mission even in storms or blizzards.
Crossbones directly pressed a button nearby. The roof of the specially designed command vehicle, which served as a control center, slowly opened, revealing a sky thick with dark clouds and lightning dancing among them.
"This doesn't look like normal weather. There shouldn't be this much lightning."
In a normal thunderstorm, you see a flash of lightning, then hear thunder a moment later, followed by pouring rain.
But now, there was no thunder and no rain—just dense lightning gathering and flickering within the clouds. It was terrifying.
"Could this be the work of those mutants?"
Sitwell had read reports on the mutants and knew there had once been a mutant in the X-Men who could control weather, storms, and lightning—Storm, if he recalled correctly.
But the reports never mentioned she could control this much lightning. Could this be some upgraded version of Storm?
"Attack! Attack!"
With a tightening feeling in his chest, Sitwell didn't dare hesitate and immediately issued the attack order to everyone.
Helicopters began adjusting their energy cannons to aim downward, and the tanks also rotated their turrets.
Their attack orders were to bomb the area inch by inch—again and again—until the entire region was reduced to rubble.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Thunder roared through the sky—not from the helicopters or tanks opening fire, but from the lightning crashing down from above.
Under George's control, the lightning strikes all targeted the most obvious helicopters and tanks. The massive command vehicle carrying Sitwell and Crossbones wasn't spared either.
"It feels like the end of the world!"
Coulson and the others looked on in shock as George waved his wand and countless bolts of lightning rained down, striking aircraft and tanks. Their faces were filled with awe.
It truly felt like watching a god punish mortals with thunder.
If George were placed on a battlefield, what army in the world could stand up to such terrifying power?
"George, you look more like the God of Thunder than I do."
Thor looked at the sky filled with lightning and couldn't help but marvel.
Back in Asgard, George had summoned far fewer lightning bolts than this.
This time, even if Thor had Mjölnir and went all out, he doubted he could match George's display.
"I think you shouldn't be called the God of Thunder—you're more like the God of Hammers."
Logan patted Thor and teased him.
The two were both heavy drinkers, often drinking and bragging together, so their relationship was particularly close.
