The two Kirigakure ninjas froze in place, slowly exchanging glances. Their eyes widened in shock before excitement burst onto their faces. Haruto Saito! This was intelligence regarding Haruto Saito! And it even mentioned a village name—this was like a gift from the heavens!
Although obtaining intelligence of this level in such an unusual manner seemed suspicious, verifying the information wouldn't be difficult. They just needed someone to check it out.
"Send the message back to the village immediately!"
"Hurry!"
One of them, a stocky ninja, flipped down from the tree canopy. Landing on the ground, he bit his finger and formed a series of hand seals.
"Summoning Jutsu..."
With a slap on the ground, a burst of white smoke exploded, revealing a medium-sized blue seabird.

Five or six kilometers to the west.
In a tree, a middle-aged man with pale, white eyes maintained a hand seal. His face was lined with wrinkles, but his lips curled into a subtle smirk as he observed everything from afar—the two Kirigakure ninjas summoning a messenger bird.

Haruto Saito continued fusing his cards, rapidly depleting his supply of junk cards. He had recently adjusted his strategy, no longer inserting over a hundred cards at a time, as the success rate was too low and led to excessive failures.
Although lower success rates meant the possibility of better rewards, he had only succeeded once so far and hadn't fully identified the pattern.
"Ding! Fusion successful! The host gains a C-rank Ninjutsu Card!"
His fifth success!
A card flew out from the swirling vortex, and Haruto caught it.
It was just an ordinary C-rank Wind Release: Great Breakthrough card! He had invested at least forty to fifty cards, only to receive such a common technique. Statistically, this was expected—the better the card, the lower the chance of obtaining it.
Previously, he had fused eight times and acquired a seven-star mutation card—an incredibly lucky streak!
This time, though, all he got was a throwaway card.
Undeterred, he continued.

The failures kept piling up!
Finally, on the ninth attempt—
"Ding! Fusion successful! The host gains a C-rank two-star mutation card!"
A unique card shot out from the golden vortex!
Haruto caught it and examined it closely.

A Ninjutsu! And a pure offensive one at that!
He immediately consumed the card.
Moments later—
Haruto stood in the valley, quickly forming hand seals.
"Wind Release: Phoenix Gale Orbs!"
Whoosh—
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
Haruto exhaled a gust of wind, which rapidly transformed into a series of tornadoes. Initially small, only about two meters high, they quickly grew in size and speed, expanding to over ten meters before dispersing.
At first glance, it seemed like an ordinary technique.
The ninja world had many similar jutsu capable of causing equivalent destruction, and single-target damage was limited.
But this technique had a unique feature—it could be continuously cast!
Unlike Fire Release: Phoenix Fire Jutsu, which allowed the user to spit multiple fireballs in succession based on skill level, Wind Release: Phoenix Gale Orbs could be sustained indefinitely as long as the user had enough chakra!

Haruto was getting nervous!
In the past ten minutes, he had attempted over forty fusions, using between fifty to 130 cards per attempt. Five of them had succeeded! But all five resulted in non-mutated cards. While two of them were entirely new techniques never before seen in the ninja world, they were still just C-rank jutsu—not very useful!
Mutation cards!
He needed mutation cards!
At this rate, he would be lucky to create just one more mutation card with his remaining 3,700 junk cards.
What a waste!
"Did I use up all my luck today?" Haruto muttered, beginning to wonder if fate played a role.
He paused, took a deep breath, then disappeared in a flash.
Maybe his luck was truly exhausted. He decided to continue tomorrow—there was no rush.

The next morning, in his bedroom in Furuta Village.
Haruto woke up and leaped out of bed.
Dressed in only his sleepwear, he sat at his desk.
With a wave of his hand, he summoned a massive pile of junk cards!
Then, the golden vortex—his elemental furnace—materialized before him.
Grabbing a handful of cards, he tossed them in for fusion.
Failure.
He grabbed another handful and tossed them in.
Failure again.
Haruto paused, then carefully sorted through his pile of cards. Selecting 200, he threw them into the vortex.
"Ding! The host has invested 200 cards. Current fusion success rate: 12%. Proceed with fusion?" The system prompt echoed in his mind.
"Such a low probability..." Haruto murmured.
Success rate wasn't the real issue. Low odds could be compensated by repeated attempts. The real problem was that even if the fusion succeeded, it might not yield a mutation card—meaning it could still be useless!
"What if I boost the probability?" Haruto glanced at his system interface.
Maxing out the success rate would cost 130,000 reputation points.
But increasing it to 60% would only require 70,000.
That amount didn't seem too steep now.
Haruto decided to give it a shot!
However, even at 60%, success wasn't guaranteed—just much more likely.
"I'll boost it just once..." Haruto thought as he tapped the interface.
Spending 70,000 reputation points, he raised the success rate to 60%.
"Let's fuse!"
