Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: Clash in the Grand Hall

The shattered gates echoed with the fading rumble of collapsed defenses, dust still clouding the air from the devastating breach. At the far end of the immense hall stood Kai Feng, calm, unwavering—eyes closed, his breathing slow and measured, a picture of composure amid chaos. But beneath his quiet exterior burned a resolve hotter than any flame.

Before him stretched the Grand Hall, a massive chamber carved from pure obsidian, inlaid with ancient glyphs and wards that pulsed faintly, now weakened by the relentless assault. Pillars rose high, etched with histories and secrets of the Obsidian Peak Sect. From the shadows emerged a host of defenders, disciples loyal to the end, standing firm despite overwhelming odds.

Across the hall, Elder Kong Tianba stood tall, his imposing frame radiating authority as he shouted commands with unwavering clarity. "Defensive formations! Protect the Sect Lord! Do not allow them to breach the inner sanctum!"

At Kong's side, Elder Huo Jue took position, his robes whipping around him as fiery Qi erupted from his palms. "Crimson Hall! Destroy the intruders where they stand!"

The Alliance, led by Master Shen Zhenhai, surged into the hall like a tidal wave, power crackling in the air. Shen Zhenhai strode forward boldly, robes fluttering, his staff glowing fiercely with golden Qi. Behind him, Elder Gan Mo gripped his crimson spear, flames dancing along its length, eager for battle. Elder Bo Jian followed, the earth rumbling softly with every step he took.

Chaos ignited like wildfire, spreading uncontrollably. Pockets of battle erupted simultaneously throughout the grand hall, each an isolated whirlwind of violence. The enormous chamber, once regal and awe-inspiring, rapidly devolved into a battlefield—a maelstrom of colliding Qi and the metallic clash of weapons echoing deafeningly off the stone walls.

Elder Kong surged into the fray first, his voice roaring like thunder. "Mountain Crushing Palm!" His massive hand thrust forward, smashing through the enemy ranks and scattering Heavenly Radiance cultivators like leaves before a hurricane. His movements were ferocious yet precise, a master of combat whose every strike was calculated to cripple.

Opposite him, Elder Huo Jue burned with ruthless intensity, his aura erupting into an inferno. "Infernal Sun Descent!" he shouted, conjuring a blazing orb of concentrated flame that crashed down upon the advancing cultivators. Flames consumed all they touched, igniting screams of agony from enemies who were reduced to ashes in an instant.

Amidst the havoc, Kai caught glimpses of Master Shen Zhenhai, the formidable Grandmaster of the Heavenly Radiance Sect, cleaving a merciless path toward him. Shen's strikes were brutally efficient, his sword cutting down Obsidian Peak cultivators without pause or remorse. With each slash, radiant Qi burst forth, piercing through even the strongest defensive techniques. Kai felt his chest tighten with dread as he watched Shen, a man who embodied deadly grace and chilling indifference.

Shen's voice cut through the noise, clear and cold as ice. "Hand over the Celestial Eclipse Manual, and I promise your deaths will be swift!"

Kai gritted his teeth, swallowing his panic. "I don't think so," he spat defiantly.

Suddenly, the twins Liu Yu and Liu Yue leapt into position before Kai, eyes blazing with determination. Liu Yue stood poised, her voice steady despite the chaos. "Master, stay close."

Liu Yu flashed a fierce grin, excitement dancing in her eyes despite the dire circumstances. "We'll carve a path through!"

The twins moved in seamless synchronization, their combined techniques a breathtaking dance of lethality. Liu Yu charged forward, blades swirling in a relentless assault, while Liu Yue released powerful waves of shadow energy that immobilized their attackers. Each strike created brief openings, allowing Kai precious seconds to catch his breath.

Kai's pulse quickened, his mind racing. He knew his current cultivation level wasn't enough to survive long against these foes. Yet, he couldn't surrender. His sect, his followers and the twins depended on him. He focused desperately, trying to channel the elusive power from the Celestial Eclipse Techniques. His Qi surged erratically, but he could feel it stabilizing, slowly responding to his intent.

A sudden voice pierced through the din—high-pitched and familiar. Yin Shuang appeared at the edge of Kai's vision, her usually calm eyes wide with shock as she struggled to comprehend the violent madness around her. This was unlike anything she'd seen before, and it frightened her. Her earlier attempt on Kai's life now seemed naïve compared to the brutality unfolding before her.

Shaking her head fiercely, Yin Shuang raised her weapon, barely managing to parry an incoming strike from a Obsidian Peak Sect disciple. She had come here prepared for stealth and subtlety, not this open war. Her movements were awkward, unaccustomed to mass combat, and panic surged within her chest.

Her gaze flickered toward Kai, the very man she had once tried to kill—who had, inexplicably, let her go. Now, as she fought amidst the storm of violence, her heart twisted with a storm of doubt. She had come seeking vengeance. But all she felt now was confusion. Why had he spared her?

Elsewhere, the conflict intensified. Master Shen tore through another group of Obsidian Peak disciples, his gaze unwavering as he locked onto Elder Huo Jue. "Dragon Sentinel? Pathetic," Shen mocked coldly, brandishing his sword with casual confidence. "Allow me to show you true power."

Elder Huo roared defiantly, flames spiraling around him. "I'll burn your arrogance away, Shen Zhenhai!"

They clashed furiously, two titans locked in a deadly duel. Sparks exploded violently as their swords met, each strike unleashing cataclysmic shockwaves that rippled through the chamber. Their fight became the nucleus around which other battles raged, drawing attention and awe from everyone nearby.

Meanwhile, Elder Kong battled fiercely, single-handedly defending a large group of wounded disciples. "You will not harm them!" he shouted, his eyes blazing with righteous fury. His movements became increasingly desperate, his body bearing wounds even as he refused to yield.

Back in the center, Liu Yu and Liu Yue's coordination began to falter as fatigue crept in. Liu Yu cried out as a strike slipped past her guard, slicing deeply into her shoulder. Liu Yue staggered briefly, panic flashing in her eyes before she rallied, pouring energy into a desperate counterattack.

Kai's breath caught painfully. He knew they couldn't hold much longer.

Kai closed his eyes momentarily, drawing deeply upon his Metal Cultivation. He felt something unlock within him—a hidden reservoir of Qi awakened.

His eyes snapped open, blazing with newfound resolve. "Celestial Eclipse: Obsidian Moon Reversal!" he shouted, thrusting his palm forward.

An immense crescent of black-and-golden energy erupted from his palm, slicing through the battlefield with unstoppable force. Enemy cultivators were blown aside like toys, their screams drowned by the deafening roar of Qi. Even Master Shen was forced to retreat momentarily, eyes narrowing in wary surprise.

Kai sagged slightly, exhaustion washing over him, but determination still burned fiercely within his chest. Around him, Obsidian Peak disciples took heart, rallying with renewed vigor. Yin Shuang watched Kai with wide eyes, her previous judgments wavering under the weight of what she'd witnessed.

Just at that moment, Kai's eyes caught something. A movement that was impossibly fast.

Flashes.

Silver.

A cluster of needles, glinting like streaks of moonlight, arced through the air—

They were heading straight for Liu Yue.
