Shantel's posture stiffened. "George."
He was the closest suspect for everything that was happening around her. And she'd been planning on the right time to confront him but here he was.
Richard observed the exchange silently, sensing the tension. What was happening with them? The last time he saw them at the gala hosted by Jessica Hale, they were almost like inseparable twins.
George's gaze shifted to Richard, then back to Shantel. "So, you finally settled for him."
Shantel's eyes narrowed. She could detect the jealousy in his tone. This wasn't the… carefree, playboy George she knew. What suddenly changed?
"This isn't the time or place, George."
He ignored her, turning to Richard. "I hope you know what you're getting into."
Richard met his gaze evenly. "I believe I do."
George scoffed, shaking his head. "Unbelievable." He turned on his heel and walked away.
Silence settled over the table. Shantel sighed, setting her fork down.
"I'm sorry about that," she said softly.
