Chapter 106 - Chapter 13: Chinatown Family Dinner

Manhattan's Chinatown, where Jason's grandfather Li Rong's restaurant is located, is different from other Chinatowns in the United States.

Most of the people gathered in other Chinatowns are Chinese, and the clients they serve are also mostly Chinese. Although I don't want to say this, the geographical location and security conditions of most Chinatowns in the United States are not very good.

But this place in Manhattan is different.

This Chinatown is adjacent to Wall Street, close to the New York City Government, and just a stone's throw away from the famous Broadway.

This is one of the most prime locations in New York City, and even Manhattan's Chinatown has become a recommended attraction in New York travel magazines.

The shops here do not only serve Chinese people, but also people of many different ethnicities come here to shop or dine.

MR·LI restaurant is located in the best section of this street. This is what Jason's grandfather spent his whole life working hard to achieve.

This is a large restaurant with fifty tables, and it also has twelve private rooms that are common in Chinese restaurants.

Today is a day worth celebrating because Jason's grandfather, Mr. Li Rong, has officially purchased the property and from today on, the restaurant will belong entirely to him.

To celebrate, Li Rong invited many of his neighbors in Chinatown and friends from the Overseas Chinese Association to have dinner. As a Chinese, no matter where you go, the tradition of liking to be in a lively atmosphere has never changed.

As good friends of Jason, Peter and Harry also came to congratulate his grandfather, which is a tradition of respecting the elderly, and they also brought their girlfriends along.

"Is this your restaurant?" The weather in New York was getting colder in October. Mary Jane, who was wearing a goose yellow coat, rubbed her slightly cold hands and asked Jason.

"Yes, welcome everyone." Jason, who was accompanying Harry and Peter, introduced the group. "To be precise, this is my grandfather's restaurant."

"My parents aren't particularly interested in inheriting the restaurant."

"But I believe you will be a good boss. You can make this restaurant's business even more popular, and even have it featured in world-class food magazines." Gwen said with a smile, hugging Peter's arm.

"Yes, come in, students." Jason pushed open the door of the restaurant and invited everyone in. "Welcome to MR. LI."

This is a large restaurant with an area of nearly 400 square meters. Fifty tables are placed in the spacious hall without being crowded at all.

Each table is kept at a suitable distance, so that diners do not feel like they are sitting on an isolated island, nor can they hear the conversation next door because the tables are too close.

The second floor has twelve private rooms.

Wooden partitions and traditional Chinese carved wooden doors are the main decorative style of this restaurant. The unpainted elm doors and elm window grilles are placed on the walls of the restaurant.

This brings a Chinese style to the restaurant without being too eye-catching.

There are many Chinese restaurants abroad that use Chinese red as the main color in their decoration. Of course, this does not mean that this color is bad, but as a warning color, strong red can make some people feel uneasy if they look at it for too long.

MR·LI's decoration style is more natural, and its furniture and decoration styles are closer to the simple Ming style.

This is unique among Chinese restaurants in the United States that are mainly decorated in Qing Dynasty style.

"Wow, this Chinese restaurant looks different from the ones I've been to before." Gwen looked around the restaurant. "It feels more relaxed here, not as restrictive as other Chinese restaurants."

"Yeah, Jason's is my favorite Chinese restaurant." Peter said, shaking Gwen's hand.

"Okay, Jason, where is our host today? I brought the best champagne as a gift." Harry, holding a glass of champagne as a congratulatory gift, was looking for Li Rong everywhere.

"Come on guys, it's upstairs." Jason led everyone to a private room on the second floor. When he opened the door, his parents Enger Lee and Gasley Lee and grandfather Li Rong were all in the room.

The fellow villagers and neighbors invited by his grandfather Li Rong were in several other private rooms.

"Hello, Uncle Eng, Aunt Gasley and Grandpa Rong." Peter and Harry brought two beautiful girls to greet Jason's elders.

"This is the gift I brought, a bottle of nice champagne that my father picked out for me." Harry handed the gift to Li Rong.

"Oh, and mine too. These are the chocolate cookies Gwen and I made together. They're not very good, but I still hope you like them." Peter said as he took out his own gift.

"Thank you, thank you Harry, and thank you Peter." Li Rong took the gifts handed over by the two children with a smile.

Li Rong is 65 years old this year, but he is still in good health. He lives a healthy lifestyle, sleeping and eating on time every day, and maintaining a moderate amount of aerobic exercise and muscle training.

This makes Li Rong look like just a middle-aged man in his early fifties, and he doesn't look old at all.

As an old man who has experienced many ups and downs, Li Rong has always maintained a peaceful mentality. He is a master of Chinese cooking in the United States.

It is his dream to finally own a restaurant that belongs entirely to him after years of hard work, and the scale of MR·LI is not just a small roadside restaurant.

Although his son and daughter-in-law obviously have no interest in inheriting the restaurant, they prefer to wear suits and get off work from 9 to 5 in the bank.

But at least his grandson Jason was willing to inherit his business, especially since Jason had made it clear that he did not want to go to college. Li Rong hoped that he would officially take over the restaurant after graduating from high school.

However, Jason's lateness on this important day still made the old man unhappy. "Jason, you are late today. We are all waiting for you." Li Rong's voice was a little serious.

"Oh, Grandpa, you know, I don't really like toasting with people from the Chinatown Association." Jason was late on purpose.

He doesn't like the habit of toasting each other, whether in his past life or this life, but many Chinese people like to do this, which makes him speechless.

What's more, some people completely ignore the law prohibiting minors from drinking alcohol, and even pull him aside to say that for a man of his size, drinking a few glasses of wine is nothing, and that beer doesn't count as alcohol and other nonsense.

Jason had no desire to deal with this kind of person.

"Okay, I know that Lao Wang and his guys are some assholes, but they are just neighbors. Don't take some things too seriously." Li Rong said.

Jason shook his head and didn't want to argue with his grandfather about such things. If he really took over this restaurant in the future, the style of the restaurant would be overturned and rebuilt according to his ideas.

He couldn't tell his grandfather about this, as he was afraid that the old man had a heart problem.

"Jason, you should also find a girlfriend. Look at what great girls Harry and Peter have found." Jason's father Enger Lee brought up this topic again.

"Yes, Gwen and Mary are the two most beautiful girls I have ever seen." Mrs. Gasley also said.

"Okay, can we eat first?" Jason immediately wanted to end the topic.

"Don't be shy Jason. I can introduce girls to you for a date. There are many girls on Broadway who like your type." Mary Jane said with a gentle smile.

"That's right, Jason. There are a lot of pretty girls in my Midtown Middle School. Maybe we can have an outdoor barbecue party someday and I can invite a few of them to join us." Gwen also blinked her beautiful big blue eyes and said.

"Okay, thank you." Jason touched his neck uncomfortably. "Grandpa, I see there are no other customers in the store today. What's going on?"

"Today is a family dinner, so I turned down all reservations and individual guests and took a day off." Li Rong opened the champagne Harry gave him and poured himself a glass.

"And for some reason, there are suddenly more Japanese people on the market these days."

"Is it because the tourist season has arrived?"

"I'm not sure, but a few days ago, Lao Chen's family had an argument with a Japanese in the gift shop and ended up getting beaten up by the Japanese. The Japanese was so ruthless that he broke both of Lao Chen's hands."

"Today is a good day, and I don't want to cause this kind of bad luck, so I'll just not open the shop."

When did the Japanese become so arrogant? They also fought in the streets of the United States? Well, today is a good day, don't think about it for now.

Jason is now thinking about other more important things, Harry Osborn and Norman Osborn.

He didn't know whether the Green Goblin would appear according to the original plot, nor did he know whether the Green Goblin appeared because of a virus or chemical pollution.

But looking at Harry who was chatting happily with his family and laughing happily, Jason felt that he might need to check the situation of the Osborne Group.

Well~that "intern" should be able to help a lot.
