Chapter 5 - A place to call work

After stepping out of the machine, I noticed that the groups of four soon increased to, who knows how many.

The whole room was filled with multiple staff and researches, all crowding around the screen that displayed a one hundred percent.

"W-we need to record this, where is the person who was last tested?!" One of the staff asked, looking to where I last stood.

The only thing they saw was Nicole, Anby, and Billy carrying me like a piece of rug, all while trying to sneak out.

"Uhh… run!" All three of them soon ran outside with me under their arms, not giving the staff a chance to ask questions.

"Wait, come back!" The staff shouted trying to stop us, only for us to run to the parking lot and jump inside the car.

Well, more like Nicole opening the back door with Billy tossing me inside. The point is, that we soon began to drive away from the building at high speeds, to where?

I have no clue, but as long as I can get away from there, I would be fine. As we drove out, I felt the car accelerating at a dangerous speed.

"Nicole, are you sure you should be driving this fast?" I asked her, however, before she could respond, the sound of sirens was soon heard.

"Ghh, damnit, I should have paid attention for PubSec." Growled Nicole, one hand tightened on the steering wheeel, while the other ran through her hair.

"Look, just don't say anything, relax, and hide that… that bag of clothes you have." Nicole spoke and took a deep breath, calming herself.

"Anby, glove box." As Anby began to look through the glove compartment, I soon saw who was approching us.

It was a female, her hair was black, with a mix of orange streaks that ran in different directions, her hair being in a ponytail with a pair of… handcuffs?

[Yes, you read that right, this lady uses handcuffs to hold her hair up, weird, some kind of kink maybe?]

She wore what looked like a police uniform, with the upper half looking like a jacked with a bullet proof vest underneath, under the vest was a white dress shirt, with a checkered blue and green tie.

Her pants were a type of combat attire, made for flexibility and speed. On one side of her waist was a strange gun, one that I wasn't familiar with at all.

But I could feel ether inside it, as if it was used as a weapon, I don't know how they did this, but it was all to similar to the weapons back home.

"Do you know why I stopped you?" Asked the officer, Nicole on the other hand was shaking like a leaf, her body turning stiffly turning to face her.

"N-no I-I d-d-don't know why." Her voice was high pitched, causing the woman to stare at Nicole with suspicion.

Seeing this, I knew that it this played out for too long, it would cause problems not only for her, but for me as well, so I decided to step in before things got out of hand.

"Apologies officer, I asked this kind group to help me find a new home." I lied with a straight face.

Hearing me speak, the officer soon faced me, only to widen her eyes in surprise. Seeing how I looked different to the other three.

"Sir, are you being kidnapped?" She asked me, causing the Nicole, and Billy to stiffen at her words.

"No, not really, if they were, this would be the worst attempt anyways." I commented, causing Nicole to narrow her eyes in the rear-view mirror at me.

"I see…" The officer stood their, looking at me, then at Nicole, who returned to being stiff.

"Still, you are the driver, so I'll have to give you this." The woman then pulled out a small machine and typed on it, pressing the last button, a small print of paper rolled out.

"I still have to give you a ticket, so please pay the fine in three to five days at the nearest PubSec station, understood?" Nicole could only pale at the amount of money she would lose, but nodded.

"Good, please drive safely, and sir." She then turned towards me, locking her eyes with mine.

"I would recommend a real-estate agent, instead of… residents." She looked like she wanted to say something else, but she kept it to herself.

"I will keep that in mind, thank you." I have a smile, the office smiled in return and soon left us.

Her vehicle soon passed by us and soon turned at the street in front of us. Nicloe then sighed and stared at the paper in her hand.

"Well, their goes my nail apppointment." She said and began to drive back towards their home.

"At least we got off with a speeding ticket, usually they would inspect if theirs any damage to the car, right boss?" Billy asked.

"True, so thanks for getting rid of her, Eros." Nicole thanked me without taking her eyes off the road.

After driving for a while, we soon returned to the run down apartment that Nicole calls a base.

"Now then, since your ether aptitude is, special, the only way to pay off the debt that you owe us, is recovering a safe box that we lost in the hollow." She began to explain and soon pulled out a map and placed it on a table.

"Said hollow is the one you and my two employes that came out of." She said and soon slammed her hands on the table, causing her breasts to jiggle.

"So the four of us will be hiring Phaethon as a proxy, to guide us inside the hollow, any questions?" She looked at the three of us.

"Actually, instead of a question, I do have something to say, preferably in private." Nicole only raised a brow but only shrugged.

"Sure, Anby, Billy, go take a break." The two looked Nicloe, then at me.

"Out, Now!" Niclose shouted, causing Billy to jump out the window.

"Well, at least he kept the window open this time, Anby, go check on him." Anby then left the two of us alone.

"Alright, so what is it you wanted to talk about, make it snappy." She crossed her arms under her breasts, narrowing her eyes at me.

"Before we left, I felt two sinners, companions of mine." I spoke, staring at the map that she placed.

"What's that got to do with me?" She asked, placing one hand on her hips while the other on the table.

"I want to add something else to this contract." Hearing the word contract, I could see a small twinkle in her eye.

"Alright, name it." She sounded curious to what I was going to propose.

"I need you to find a place where I can stay, not just me, not my companions, but for many, many sinners." She stayed silent for a few seconds, staring at me.

"And why should I waste my time doing so? Do you know how hard it is to find a place to live for a group of three to four people?" She asked.

"Well, since you made an I.D for me when I arrived, I can assume you can find such place, unless the cunning hares are not that reliable?" I asked her, probing her work credentials.

"How dare you?! The cunning hares have a good reputation when it comes to satisfying a customers needs, and we'll prove it after you rescue your companions and help me get my safe box!" She shouted at me, when she saw that I was smiling, she widened her eyes in realization.

"You cunning man, don't think that I don't know what you did." She growled, and soon went towards the front door.

"When it comes to buisness, it's not hard to gain the upper hand." I muttered and followed her.

"Anby, Billy, we're stopping by Phaethon's place, then off to the hollow, got it?!" Billy only groaned and weakly raised one hand, giving a thumbs up.

"Got it boss." Billy pulled himself up and soon began to limp towards the car.

"That was dumb, even for you." Anby commented while helping Billy get in the car.

As soon as the four of us entered the car, Nicole soon began to drive towards a different part of the city, however, Nicole soon pulled up at a subway, forcing me and Anby to get off.

"Anby, your in charge of him while taking the subway to sixth street, I'll meet you both there, okay?" Anby somehow pulled out a second burger from nowhere and was already nibbling on it.

"You got it." She replied, Nicloe then soon drove off, leaving both of us standing in front of the subway.

"Let's go, if we don't hurry, we'll miss the next train." Was all she said before walking towards the entrance.

"What can you tell me about Phaethon?" I asked her, since I was curious on who they are.

"The proxy's, known as Phaethon, are a legend." She replied, she made her way towards one of the ticket booths and ordered two tickets, handing one of them to me.

"As you heard from before, both proxy's are siblings, the amount of commissions they have done has far exceeded many others, and none can ever come close to finding their identity's." She continued and began to make her way towards the gates.

"Only a select few, such as us, know what they look like, and know where they live. Thus, if you wish to gain the proxy's trust, you must show that you are willing to keep the secret of their identities." As we soon entered the station, she then turned towards me.

"However, if they are willing to expose their identities to you, then that is their choice, do not make them regret their choice if they do." That was all she said before the train arrived.

"Let's go, we don't want Nicloe to get mad at either of us." I nodded and soon entered the subway and found an empty spot, as soon as the doors closed, I felt a jolt at first, but soon the train began to move.

"What are they like?" I asked her, trying to start a conversation with her.

"That's classified." She replied.

"What do you like?" I asked again.

"Chicken burger, they have the right amount of nutrients for me to digest." Was all she said, I ran out of words to use to start up a conversation.

After a few more minutes we had arrived at sixth street, Anby soon guided me towards the exit and stopped me.

"Before we meet up with Nicole, I have to pick up something." She told me.

"Is it a snack?" Anby didn't say anything at first, then she looked at the ground. Somehow, I thought I saw some depressing lines on the side of her head

"Yes." I only smiled and patted her head, she reminds me when Hella would come to my office, always asking for money to buy some sweets.

"That's fine, let's head up to buy you some snacks." I told her and made my way to the surface, with Anby following from behind.

MEANWHILE HANDS HEADQUARTES

"Commander, what is this?" Asked a woman, who was looking at a monitor in front of her, staring at a digital file on a civilian.

"This was sent to us from H.I.A half an hour ago, and the result on this person, was something astounding, impossible even." Replied a man.

"Forgive my lack of understanding, but it's showing full immunity, are we sure if the machine was working properly?" Asked a different woman, staring at the results in front of her.

"The technicians conformed it, there was no malfuction to the machine, these are the genuine results." Replied the commander.

"But that's impossible, no one can have full immunity to ether, it's unheard of." The commander then soon leaned forward, his hands were placed under his chin.

"I know it may be hard to believe, but we must locate this person, they may be a valuable asset for us." However, alarms began to blare through the building, causing everyone to tense.

"Report, what is going on?!" Shouted the commander, however, no one answered.

[Hehehe, how funny!] Everyone soon turned to the monitor, staring at something that was impossible. A person, was walking on the monitor, staring at the file in front of them.

[Hmmm, not bad, not bad, they did catch his good side] The girl said, crossing her arms while staring at the photo.

"Who are you, and how did you hack into the servers?!" Shouted the commander, the girl then glanced over her shoulders, floating towards the monitor itself, her eye was the only thing that was seen.

[Sorry, but I can't have you looking for my dear chief just yet, it's not your time, oh, it's you, your so cute I just want to gobble you up!] Squeeled the girl, soon, something began to press on the screen itself.

A hand.

Said hand began to push the screen, stretching it until her hand phased through it, gripping the edge of the monitor and pulled herself through.

[I will say this however, stay away from him, and no one will get hurt, I don't want to ruin the fun before it even gets that far in.] The girl poured and made her way towards one of the woman, kneeling down to her height.

[Be a good girl and stay away, not until he's at that… weird countryside place, Kay?] The girl on the other hand wasn't amused, she placed her hand on the hilt and was about to draw her blade, only to freeze in place.

[Naughty, naughty, but I can't blame you, always wanting to eliminate hollows, or etherials, well, I'll be off. Bye bye!] The girl then skipped towards the monitor, phasing through the screen and giggling as she disappeared.

[Oh, almost forgot!] The sound of snapping was heard, and soon multiple voices were heard through the radio.

"Commander, commander can you hear me?!" Shouted a man.

"Report, what just happened?!"

"Sir, all the data that was collected were wiped clean, there's nothing left in the servers!" All three of them paled at the report, staring at the now empty screen.

Only for it to glitch and show the eye that was on the screen a few minutes ago, the eye was staring at them, staring deep into their souls.

"Who was that girl?"

[Whew, I'll admit, I didn't expect that place to have some security, the only sad thing, there was no challenge, I miss my old world, at least she made things interesting. Oh well, let's just hope I didn't infect their servers with mania, only time will tell, anyways, send those power rocks to show support, and I'll see you all again next week! Bye bye!]
