"Not exactly," Adonis said, his tone clipped. "What is going on here?"
"This is Heather," Lily said, gesturing toward her.
His eyes lingered on Heather, his expression calm. "Hmm. Heather," he repeated slowly, as if testing the name. "Is that so? It's a pleasure meeting you, Heather." His voice carried a subtle edge, and Heather could sense the disappointment in his words. But there was something else there too, something she couldn't quite place. Perhaps curiosity, or maybe suspicion.
His gaze swept over her, and Heather suddenly became acutely aware of her appearance. She was still wearing the nightgown. The maid warned me, she thought bitterly, her cheeks flushing.
Lily excused herself and slipped out of the room, leaving Adonis to greet his father. "Hello, Father," he said, his tone softening slightly.
