They all traveled, chatting and acting when attacked, but Anna still didn't know where they were headed. She hadn't initially interacted with the group when she first met them, and it wasn't till they asked her if she wanted to come along that she started listening. Of course, it's not like she knew where she wanted to go in the first place. Honestly, she didn't know what to do after everything.
Picture five years of going to therapy to gain the will to live. While constantly having surgeries to restore limbs that were practically a lost cause. Then, having to live through constant physical therapy and pain. At the same time, she had to continually see scars that represented death, despair, and permanent disabilities. She had felt a spiral of depression and anxiety from the wounds, almost growing to the point of being called agoraphobia. She had locked herself away, only going out to escape her sinking thoughts.
It was a personal hell of her own making that nothing could truly pull her out of. Then the world she knew for the past few years ended. When the creatures came from the towers, she had a belief that struck her, carrying her to leave her home. She had to survive because if she were going to die, she would die having done all she could to live. She wasn't going to waste away. To be easily taken out by creatures possibly affected by the towers that had inadvertently caused the death of her entire family. That thought made her angry. If she knew how, she would try all she could to destroy the beings that caused the deaths of a few billion people, her family included.
"Anna? Anna? Yo bitch snap out of it?" (Kyle)
Kyle started snapping his fingers in front of Anna's face. It had pulled her out of her thoughts, but then she saw a hand swing out of nowhere and smack Kyle on the back of the head. The action made her nearly spit out laughing.
"Don't anger the woman in charge of taking care of your health." (Justin)
"Come on, she was staring out into space, she nearly walked into a tree." (Kyle)
"You're over exaggerating. She wasn't even close to a tree." (Mark)
"Okay, okay, this may be funny to me, but Kyle, what did you need? Are you bleeding through your bandages again?" (Anna)
"No, but I tried to ask you a question." (Kyle)
"Are you sure? Last time you started putting on a tough act and nearly fainted from blood loss." (Anna)
"You're kidding me, right?" (Kyle)
"About what?" (Anna)
Kyle had given her a look like a teenager who had been told to put their phone away.
"I told you I would behave and let you know if I'm bleeding again." (Kyle)
"The day I trust my patients are telling me the full truth is the day I have a truth spell." (Anna)
That comment made Mark snort, and Kyle was ready to play wrestle with him in mock anger. Unfortunately, Anna may be able to distract others, including herself, easily, but she still knows to remember to get answers.
"What was your question, Kyle, before you both roll in the dirt? Also, please don't use your full body. Mark, I still haven't fully cleared your injury, so be careful with your hand. It may not have bandages, but it may easily break bones if you're not careful. You know what, no wrestling till I know both of you won't reverse all the work I put into treating your injuries." (Anna)
They both groaned, but Mark acted obstinate when he got back up.
"Come on, you saw me stab my blade into the head of a snake with my hand, and it's still fine." (Mark)
"If your stupid plan hadn't worked and you still lived, I would have been livid. So you don't get to use your stupid bravado for me to allow full clearance of your hand, but if you wish, bring me your hand and I'll check." (Anna)
I knew his hand should be healed, but Anna planned on clearing his injury tomorrow, not today. Mark handed her his hand, which had a scar where the hole was. The scarred skin was paler than his normal tanned skin, but unlike the beginning of the day, the skin, which looked easy to tear open, looked like the scar was from a few days ago.
"Mark... Did your healing upgrade or something, or did you get a level because your healing didn't look like this in the morning?" (Anna)
