Chapter 52 - Fractures

Eunwoo & Yuna

When the door creaked open, the dim light from inside spilled across Yuna's face.

Eunwoo stood at the doorway, his expression unreadable—yet the longing and quiet hurt he'd been carrying for months shimmered in his eyes.

Yuna held her breath. Words tangled in her throat the moment she saw him. Her fingers trembled as she took a step forward.

She opened her mouth. "Eunwoo—"

But before she could finish, Eunwoo pulled her into his arms.

Suddenly, his strong embrace wrapped around her tightly. Yuna froze for a moment, then slowly closed her eyes, resting her head on his shoulder.

Eunwoo took a deep breath, breathing her in—as if trying to convince himself she was really there.

"I missed you so much," he whispered.

Yuna's throat tightened. She closed her eyes even more, willing herself not to cry.

They stayed like that for a moment, saying nothing—just feeling each other's presence.

Then Eunwoo's voice broke the silence, low and full of pain:

"Why… didn't you call me? Not even once."

Yuna opened her eyes slowly.

"Did you never miss me, Yuna?"

She pulled back slightly, though Eunwoo still held her shoulders. When she met his gaze, she saw the quiet ache in his eyes.

And the silence between them suddenly felt heavier than the room they stood in.

"I wanted to call…" Yuna said quietly. "But I was afraid everything would repeat. It was hard… but I held myself back."

She took a shaky breath, trying to steady her voice.

"For Nova. For you…"

But before she could finish, Eunwoo pulled her in again—tighter this time.

As if letting her go meant losing her all over again.

His voice came out steadier, resolute:

"You don't have to do that anymore, Yuna."

Yuna furrowed her brows slightly.

Eunwoo had made a decision.

And it was a decision that would change everything between them.

[Hwan]

The apartment was silent.

Hwan hadn't moved from the spot since Yuna slammed the door and walked out.

Was it seconds? Minutes? Hours?

He didn't know.

All he knew was that there was a sharp pain in his chest.

He slowly made his way to Yuna's now-empty room.

He stood at the doorway.

The room still smelled faintly of her.

Hwan's trembling hands slid into his pockets. Breathing felt like a task.

One step forward.

Then another.

And suddenly, something inside him snapped.

He kicked over the side table in one violent motion. Books scattered to the floor. Picture frames fell from the shelves, their glass shattering like screams.

But none of it eased the pain.

His head spun. He sat down on the bed, clutching his head with both hands.

Then he whispered:

"Yuna…"

Her name trembled on his lips. His throat ached.

She was gone.

And Hwan… had lost her.

He'd told her he loved her. He'd begged her to stay. He had done everything he could.

But she still chose to leave.

And accepting that… was like walking through fire.

His eyes locked onto her pillow.

He reached out slowly, fingertips brushing the fabric.

But it was cold now.

Even the pillow had forgotten her warmth.

Hwan shut his eyes.

At first, his shoulders simply trembled.

But then—

A sob ripped from his chest, echoing through the room.

And in that moment, a single tear rolled down his cheek.

Silent, helpless, and completely shattered.
