Madeline's POV.
It was 9 a.m., and nobody was up except me, so what was I supposed to do now?
I didn't want to cook something and create a fuss all over again, and it would be not good if I didn't make anything for Mrs Fernandes when I'm making something for myself.
Before I could spend more time on the dilemma I was facing, the doorbell rang, and my heart raced. I had no idea why I always get scared when the doorbell rings.
Slowly, I walked over looking through the peephole, 'The security man? What was he doing here?'
I opened the door, putting only my head out, ''Yes, sir?''
''You have a delivery.''
With that, he handed me the parcel and just left. The package wasn't mine, so where do I place this?
Suddenly, a voice came from behind, startling me, ''That's for us.''
I turned around to see Liam coming out of his room with a towel in his hand, his hair still wet.
I hated to admit it, but the way he was looking right now was quite distracting, ''Huh? What?''
He walked towards me, eyeing the package, ''That's breakfast, I ordered it for us, it's just soup.''
I looked down at the package in my hand, noticing the restaurant name, ''Oh, that's nice of you.''
I pursed my lips, not feeling comfortable with the atmosphere, 'Wow, the awkwardness was just great.'
''Are you not hungry?'' he asked, 'why was his tone so gentle?'
''I always am.''
I replied before thinking, earning a chuckle from him, this stupid mouth of mine that talks before I can process my thoughts.
''Then let's eat,'' he said, walking over to the dining table.
I chose the seat farthest away from him, but that was a bad idea because now I was facing him.
''What about your mum?'' I asked, eyeing the door of the room she was sleeping in.
''She is very particular about what she eats, so it's better if she makes food or orders on her own.''
His reply made sense because Mrs Fernandes was an amazing cook.
I quietly drank the soup, it was rich in flavours and quite tangy, Liam definitely had taste. At least when it came to food.
As I was peacefully drinking the soup, Liam asked me something that almost made me choke.
''If you would like, let's go out somewhere today.''
I shifted my focus from the food to his face, and he wasn't even looking at me, his head was held down, 'was he shy?' I thought to myself, but then that seemed absolutely ridiculous.
''Where? Why? What? No!''
I was so shocked by the question, I had a series of questions I had to ask him before refusing the idea.
As if on cue Mrs Fernandes stepped out of the room, ''Oh! What a wonderful morning it is, seeing you couple have breakfast, it's making me swoon!''
She approached us as she twirled along the way.
''My, my, Madeline, won't you just spend a day with him? It's your winter break anyway, why sit here bored, just go with him.''
I stared at her, 'Why did it seem like this was all planned?'
I put on the best smile I could before replying, ''It's completely ok, I'm fine, I will just watch TV or something.''
Mrs Fernandes shook her head, ''Shush honey! You guys been married for two weeks and no honeymoon?! I was pregnant with him a month after my wedding.''
That statement shocked Liam as much as it shocked me because I could hear him coughing probably due to the impact of what he just heard.
''But it's not real,'' I paused, looking at the mother-son pair, ''It's like sending strangers on a trip.''
She nodded, clutching my shoulders, she said, ''True, which is why you both need to go, at least to form a friendship, wait, there is nothing to form, you both were friends when you were kids,''
I looked at Liam from the corner of my eyes, yup that was true, but that was all just bittersweet memories now, a fleeting moment of my past.
''But...
''No buts hun, I booked an whole island just for you two, just go and come back,'' with that she turned back and returned to the room.
My eyes widened in shock as I turned towards Liam, ''A whole island? Are you insane?''
He just shrugged, ''You should probably ask mum that question and the answer would be yes, she is slightly insanse, aren't we all?"
Good lord, I just wanted to smack his head. Why was he not refusing this idea?
This almost feels like a date.
And it didn't seem like Mrs Fernandes would back down from her idea, so should I just go?
No, no, no, that would complicate things, I couldn't trust this stupid heart of mine.
If by any chance Liam was nice to me during this trip, my heart would want more of it and I was damn sure he wouldn't give it to me, because he had others in his life and I wasn't even his top 100th priority.
But like the fool I always was, I agreed to it because if I was going to be stuck in this marriage for a year, why not give myself a good vacation?
