LYRA'S POV
I can sense the awkwardness around the table despite the chatter and ongoing conversations. I feel Lila momentarily glance at me in disgust as she speaks with Heidi.
I had a huge appetite before I came down for breakfast, but the moment I saw Heidi, my hunger vanished.
I don't despise her or hold any grudge, but she makes it difficult not to. I have no interest in dragging her into this mess, but she seems determined to be part of it.
"Put some salt and pepper into it, that's how it's eaten here, my love," Zade whispers, his lips too close to my ear just as I'm about to dip my bread into the avocado sauce.
I nod, flashing him a fake smile. He returns an equally forced one before leaning back into his chair, his minty breath finally no longer all over me. His gaze lingers on Kymon, who sits opposite him on the other side of the table. He scowls, then looks away—only to meet Jillian's stare. His expression falters, and he turns his focus to his food.
