It was calm for once. The gnomes had run away as soon as Valentius gave them some of the dragon's treasure.
It was going to be their death.
It was one thing for Valentius and Albert to plunder. They were adventurers.
Or used to be, at any rate.
But those gnomes would have to explain to the lord of whatever castle they went to exchange the gold at what they had done.
How they had angered a dragon and made it come after them. Maybe even bringing enough dragon gold to the city to turn it into a target for the fire-breathing creatures.
He heard a chirp. The small dragon cub shifted, stretching its wings and front paws, only for it to snuggle into his tunic once more.
Valentius felt the wetness spread to the spot next to the dragon's maw.
It was so… so…
The dragon cub was just like a cat, Valentius realized, as he petted it on the head.
Its horns were just two small bones budding out of its head.
Its scales shimmered a lovely silvery light, for all that they were black.
