It didn't matter to Marek that Albert might get himself killed. Or that Valentius would end up depressed after that. Both men had more than enough time to grow up. The fact that they hadn't done so in spirit, rather than just in body, was their problem.
They didn't need him to babysit them anymore. Both had shown that they didn't need him at all.
