Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Another day

Against her will, Kara had to go to school. She dragged her feet down the stairs, her mood sour.

"Did you eat breakfast?" Debby asked, fully dressed for work.

Kara shook her head. "No, I'm not hungry."

Debby shot her a look. "You haven't eaten a thing since Saturday. I'm not ready to deal with ulcer pains again."

"I'll eat an apple later," Kara mumbled, rolling her eyes.

Oron walked into the living room and kissed Debby on the cheek.

"Ew, get a room," Kara groaned, cringing.

Oron chuckled. "Are you ready for school?"

"Yeah, ever ready," she replied with a forced smile.

As Debby adjusted Oron's suit, she asked, "Who's taking you to school?"

Kara grabbed two apples from the fridge. "It's not far. I'll just walk."

"Oh no, boys!" Oron called, and Kara's eyes widened.

"I'll be fine, Oron! No need to bother them!" she pleaded, but it was too late. Sila, Rai, and Gen strolled into the living room, their eyes glued to their phone screens.

"Who will volunteer to drive Kara to school?" Oron asked.

The three boys exchanged glances before Gen scoffed. "No way am I carrying that demon in my car." He walked out without a second glance.

Rai grabbed a soda and toast, smirking. "Never in a million years."

Sila didn't even say a word; he was already out the door.

Kara sighed, forcing a nervous laugh. "Okay, I guess they still hate my guts."

All eyes turned to Rox as he descended the stairs.

He paused, narrowing his eyes. "No fucking way."

"Oh, come on, Rox," Oron pleaded.

"She crashed my Lamborghini. I'm never letting her near any of my cars," Rox replied firmly.

Debby cursed under her breath. "I'll get you another one."

That made Rox pause. He crossed his arms, raising a brow.

"I'll get you the latest model," Debby added, her tone appeasing. "By Sunday."

Kara's jaw dropped. "You'll buy him a car, but not me?"

"You're too young to have a car," Debby shot back. "And I'm running late."

Before Kara could argue, Debby and Oron were out the door. "Have a great first day of school, Kara," Oron called over his shoulder.

Left with no other options, Kara turned to Rox, who was leaning against the kitchen counter, sipping a beer.

"Isn't it too early for that?" she asked, glaring at the can in his hand.

Rox ignored her, tossing the empty can into the bin. "We need to go. We're going to be late."

"Say please," Kara challenged, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Excuse me?" Rox rasped, arching a brow.

"Get on your knees and beg," he smirked, his tone mocking.

Kara smirked right back. "You must be high on something. I think I'll walk."

She strode purposefully to the door, leaving Rox shaking his head in disbelief.
