The palace was bustling with busy feet moving up and down in preparation for the princess's birthday party, which was expected to be the best party the clan had ever experience.
A sneaky figure moved swiftly past the white flowers lining the hallway, so fast that the maids only felt the rush of wind. The figure flew high into the sky, away from the brightly lit and bustling palace.
Lunneta suddenly felt the need to go to her mountain. She tried her best to ignore the call but couldn't. This morning, she saw a tattoo on her thigh and was scared. She didn't want anyone to see it because it meant that her soulmate was close. This new development excited and frightened her, and she wanted to get away from the bubble to clear her thoughts.
She landed majestically, sitting at her usual spot with her feet crossed in meditation. She tried to clear her thoughts of those deep black eyes that pierced through her soul. She shook her head to focus on her cultivation.
Suddenly, her eyes flew open as she felt a wave of sharp objects coming towards her. She rolled away from where she was sitting and stood upright.
"Who is there? Come out!" Her cold voice rang out. In response, a small knife dove straight at her, but she quickly stepped on a stone, flying into the air and standing still, becoming angry. She unsheathed her sword and attacked the figure, who dodged. They engaged in a fierce battle, their swords clanging with force.
Calling back her sword, Lunneta prepared to strike the person with a killing move. She could feel that the person was strong, even stronger than her. Removing a little blood from her fingers, she covered her sword with it, a bloodthirsty aura filling the air.
However, before she could strike, she heard a voice and quickly put away her sword, her white eyes regaining their original color.
The figure moved close to her before she could react, hugging her petite waist. "Your fighting skills have improved," a cold and seductive voice whispered in her ears.
Lunneta stood still in shock, her heart shaking as she slowly looked at the face of the figure hugging her.
"Kai…" She gasped out, unable to breathe well.
"Took you far too long to know I was the one," his lips in a lopsided smile. His eyes were cold. He pushed a strand of hair behind her ears, staring into her mesmerizing eyes.
Lunneta felt like she was enchanted. He had changed a lot; the immature face had been replaced with the cold and calm face of a man who had grown up. His eyes shone black like midnight, and his body had filled out nicely.
"Ahem…" Kai cleared his throat, bringing her out of her reverie, and she realized that he was still holding her waist. Blushing, she pushed him away, aware of the propriety between a man and a woman.
"Our princess has finally grown into a woman, although the chest area has refused to grow," Kai commented sarcastically.
Lunneta looked down and then at him, sending a punch his way, which he dodged with a slight smile on his lips.
"I thought you wouldn't be available for my birthday party," Lunneta said after she got her bearings, placing her hands behind her back.
"Did you miss me?" Kai whispered, looking straight at her, leaving nothing unsaid.
Lunneta refused to answer such, lowering her gaze. She really wanted to scream that indeed she missed him.
"I left a letter for you before leaving. Did you find it?" Kai asked.
"Yes, I did," Lunneta refused to tell him that it was hidden among her most treasured items.
"I brought a gift for you," he held out a lock chain in front of her. It was dazzling and beautiful.
Lunneta broke into a smile, unable to hide the happiness she felt.
"Do you want to see it?" Kai asked softly. Lunneta nodded her head in response, excited to see what he got for her.
Kai opened the lock chain slowly, his entire gaze on her as he took in her reaction. Lunneta gasped in surprise as she took in the words on it, her hands covering her mouth. She quickly took the chain away from him, her hands shaking and her heart beating fast.
"I know you feel it. What I feel," Kai admitted. "I was almost running mad from the emotion, that was why I agreed to travel with my dad, yet you haunt me day and night.
"Tell me you also feel that way," Kai said softly, his eyes overflowing with love.
Lunneta couldn't breathe; she didn't dare look into his eyes, scared of what she would find.
"The Clan," Lunneta said, finally finding her voice. "They won't ever accept it."
Kai heaved a sigh of relief, grateful that it wasn't an outright rejection.
"If we can show them that we are soulmates…" Kai left the rest unsaid.
"My parents… They won't forgive me," Lunneta reasoned, shaking her head as she grasped her clothes tightly.
He turned her around, one hand holding her chin and the other on her waist.
"Yes. I will serve them, but I can't let you go."
Lunneta broke out in tears, her eyes filling with tears. "Would you be mine?" Kai whispered, his face drawing closer to hers. Lunneta couldn't tell who moved first, but soon their lips were on each other.
Lunneta gasped at the shock of pleasure that ran through her body as his cold lips touched hers.
As soon as it came, it went like the wind. Lunneta could hear her mom calling her. She quickly looked away from him, her cheeks blooming with shame written all over her. She fled.
