I didn't think I will be seeing the person I'm seeing right in front of me, 'wait I don't remember telling her my name'. It's the girl from the library that I met today and she is right here at this party, what a small world indeed because it's very rare to bump into a strangers twice in a day let alone be at the same event. 'what a shocking coincidence'
" Hey!!, remember me? I'm the same girl you met today at the library". She looks really high judging by her red eyes or she might be drunk.
I scanned her from top to bottom and realized something different about her, first I didn't know she wears glasses and second she was wearing a really tight short dress which is the opposite of the girl I met today at the library.
I must have zoned out again because what she said next did not shock me at all, "You have a habit of zoning out". She giggled and came to give me a hug as if we are long lost besties and it was not awkward at all.
"How do you know my name?", I was very surprised and that is the first thing that popped into my mind
"My brother told me". I wonder who her brother is if he knows me.
"Looks like you already made a friend ", Toby said while leaving my side. 'not now Toby, you can't leave me here all alone '. I was so mentally pissed at him with the stunt he pulled because I know that he definitely wants me to mingle and glad someone came to the rescue.
'What the fuck happened to "don't ever leave my side" you literally left my side right now' . I looked around and then looked at her and smiled not seem weird and stuff. I decided not to overthink a lot and just go with the flow.
"Come on, let's go grab some shots, you look sober asf and it's a party you should be lit right now". She grabbed my hand and gave me a shot to take near the table filled with different beverages.
I looked at her hesitating a bit because I have never tested alcohol before but what harm could it do I should be having fun. " Fuck it, let's get lit!!!". I said while chucking the shot and it-burned-my-fucking-throat. I was coughing so badly I felt my body getting goosebumps all over.
"First time?", she laughed out loud while giving me another shot, 'is she trying to kill me?'. "Yea", I said all embarrassed.
"Come on, here's another one trust me it gets better the more you take them". I guess another one won't hurt right?.
"Was that your boyfriend?", I guess she is referring to Toby because I know no one else here.
"Yeah", I replied while turning to look for him and could spot him with Danny playing a game over the table. 'Where was she when Danny made an announcement about our relationship', I thought to myself
"Cute, him and my brother are so close but I don't know a lot about him just that they are best buddies", Wait...wait a damn minute. 'Did she just say FUCKING DANNY IS HER BROTHER, ain't no way in hell. It made sense how knew my name'.
I froze and was just staring at the crowd, I think the shots are kicking in because I felt my heart racing and all of a sudden I was hyper and my social anxiety just disappeared I was liking this a lot and I starting to feel the music too.
"Now that's what I'm talking about !!!!!!!!!!!", she was cheering for me like a proud mother. she handed me another drink and we did a mini "Cheers" before drinking and partying like everyone.
"Let's go join the game at the table". I was enjoying my self and for once I did not have to worry about anything and everything. I was in heaven and I hope to stay in this state forever.
We got to the table and it was a mess. People were behaving like animals, it was hectic but what did I expect? It's a party after all but with my zero social experience I find it scary but to them they are having the time of their life and not even worried about anyone, zero fucks given.
"ANYONE ELSE WANNA PLAY NEXT??", Danny asked to make sure everyone participated in the game.
It looked like a fan game but you'll be surprised that most people enjoy watching other people embarrass themselves and not 'join' the game because to them "fan" is laughing at other people's misery. I looked around and my mind just said 'You only live once'.
I guess everyone tell themselves that before doing something that could end their lives but at the moment it sounds cool so I was like 'Fuck it'.
With confidence I yelled "ME!!". Toby gave me a concerned looked, like a mother worried about the safety of their chicks. I was gonna get a lecture either way when I get home so may as well do what my peers do, Fuck up their lives..in a good way I thought.
"WAIT SAGE???! ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THIS", he whisper yelled at me as to not draw more attention on himself . If people heard him it would seem like he is some kind of party pooper and him being popular he must make sure not to ruin his reputation. I just ignored him and went next to Danny as he motioned for me to come stand next to him and all the other people that were playing the game next.
I was maybe, just maybe going overboard with all of this and should just relax but my intrusive thoughts just keep hyping me up to just simply not give a fuck about the shit I'm about to do. Toby followed me as I went to Danny and my 'new friend' from the library which I still not know her name just kept on cheering, "You got this!".
"Now, here's what's gonna happen in this next round. We are going to place 10 candles on the table and next to those candles, there's gonna be 10 shots of vodka.", he smirks at the crowd like sneaky little kid who's proud of himself.
He goes on to continue to talk and tell us the rest of the information we need before the game starts. "Each person gets to blow the candles but you only have one shot to do it and the amount of candles you blow out shows how many shots you're suppose to take".
If you think about it, it sounds super easy right? I mean you just blow out candles how hard can it be. I just gotta take a very deep breath and blow out as much air as possible then I'll be fine.
"Everyone form a line in the meantime as we prepare everything, try not to overthink things while at it". He walks back into the house.
Troy was still standing next to me and he just kept quiet as if accepted his fate of having to deal with my stubborn ass all night. I was just glad he's keeping his shit together and I know he's suppose to be my "boyfriend" but it's all an act.
After what felt like forever, we see a couple of guys and girls holding trays that have shots in them and one of them just holding the candles. I didn't expect to see container candles but more of tealight candles since they're smaller and easier to blow out.
'Sly fox ain't you Danny?', I thought to myself, of course they won't make the game easy but just want to get everyone drunk to the core. I was being naïve as always.
"You just gotta stand there or join the game", I looked at Troy waiting for an answer and hopefully a 'yes' from him so that I won't be the only one to embarrass myself tonight.
"I can see only 2 shots got you fucked up that you're slowing losing brain cells. Someone has to drive us back home, genius."
'Ouch, that hurt my feelings'. I couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic or he meant every word he said but either way that was a very low blow from him.
"You sure have a way with ladies ain't you? ". I could have chosen to be the bigger person but I can always blame it on 'slowly losing brain cells' quote on quote, he said. He just kept staring at the people setting up the game as if he's very unbothered by what I just said or maybe it's all a bluff but either way, I know he heard me.
"You're my girlfriend for crying out loud so of course I'm concerned about you and need to make sure you don't do something that you will regret later!!", he said in a harsh tone as if reprimanding a naughty kid.
I kept quiet, not knowing what to say to him because I didn't think me playing this game would be a big deal.
"EVERYONE, REMEBER YOU ONLY HAVE ONE SHOT...LET THE GAME BEGIN!!!!", Danny said all excited. People started cheering and shouting to prep us up but, I mean It's just a game right? not a big deal.
I still have some time to prepare myself mentally since I'm 7th in line. "You know you don't have to participate in this game", Troy says. It's as if he read my mind or sensed that I'm slowly rethinking my decision.
"I'll be fine, I think. It's just harmless game and since you're not in line maybe you should go into the crowd and enjoy". I said with my fake ass confident voice but deep down I just wanted to get over and done with it.
He listened to me and went into the crowd. I could not see what was happening in the front and how people are doing but by the sound of cheering I can guess they're all smashing the game like a piece of cake and which means I'll probably do the same.
"Since you are determined to play, I'll let you go ahead, I'm sorry for being so uptight with you", he said while reaching out to hold my hand.
