Chapter 67: He Gave Too Much
After the two kids went off to play, the adults chatted briefly until a clan member approached Uchiha Douhuan.
"Clan Leader, the Inuzuka Clan has arrived."
"Douhuan, you go ahead. I'll take Genma and the others to explore the area," Kakashi said.
"Alright, feel free to look around," Douhuan nodded, greeted Mikoto, and then headed to the entrance with Fugaku.
When they arrived at the entrance, the entire Inuzuka leadership had gathered, led by Inuzuka Jaw and the elder Inuzuka Bone, along with all the high-ranking jonin of the clan. Douhuan greeted them warmly, shaking hands one by one.
"Ah, Douhuan-sama, sorry for the trouble of making you come out personally," Inuzuka Kotsu, despite being over seventy, had a face full of smiles as he greeted him.
"Haha, Elder Kotsu, what are you saying? You are one of the founders who witnessed the village being built. It's an honor to welcome you," Douhuan replied with a grin.
"Inuzuka Kotsu is just an old bag of bones now," Kotsu waved his hand. "By the way, Douhuan-sama, that boy Kaze who joined the Police Force recently—he hasn't caused you trouble, has he? That kid insisted on joining, but I've been worried he might make a mess."
"Elder Kotsu, you worry too much. Kaze has been a huge help in the Police Force," Douhuan reassured.
"Douhuan-sama, don't overpraise him," Inuzuka Jaw interjected. "We know his temper—he's got some talent but acts rashly. Please bear with him if he makes mistakes."
"Come on, Jaw-sama, Kaze has been performing quite responsibly. Besides, the police dogs that Inuzuka Clan donated last time were invaluable during the recent incident. They significantly reduced the burden on the Police Force during our investigation of the foreign spies stirring up trouble."
"Those dogs were nothing," Jaw replied modestly.
"Actually, I wanted to discuss something with you," Douhuan said.
"Oh? Please, go ahead," Jaw replied.
"Given the success of the previous batch of police dogs in combating village threats, I'm considering expanding the team. To that end, I'd like to establish a dedicated department, funded with 80 million ryo per year, where the Inuzuka Clan would be responsible for breeding and training new police dogs. What do you think?"
"Eighty million?!" Inuzuka Jaw was stunned. It wasn't that the amount was too little, but rather too much. The entire clan's annual earnings barely scraped that number after deducting expenses.
But seeing Douhuan's smiling face, he understood that this was more than just a simple business deal—it was an investment and a gesture of goodwill.
"Is it not enough?" Douhuan asked with a hint of mischief.
"No, no! It's more than enough!" Jaw stammered.
"Really? You see, training such smart and brave dogs must cost quite a bit. While I appreciate your clan's willingness to contribute to the village, the Police Force can't let our partners shoulder all the costs. It would be unfair," Douhuan explained.
Hearing this, Inuzuka Jaw finally understood why Kaze kept praising Douhuan after just one joint mission. This guy truly knew how to show appreciation.
Just then, the Aburame Clan also arrived, led by Aburame Shibi and Aburame Shihai. Douhuan greeted them warmly.
"What are you two discussing so energetically?" Shibi asked curiously.
"Oh, Shibi-sama, just in time. I was just talking to Jaw-sama about establishing a department for training police dogs," Douhuan said.
"Hmm, sounds promising," Shibi nodded. "Anything else on your mind, Douhuan-sama?"
"Indeed, I heard from Captain Shihai that your clan has been working on a new insect breeding technique—specifically, chakra-sensing insects that can transmit visual information to their user. Is that correct?"
Shibi nodded cautiously. "Yes, but the project is still in the experimental phase and has many flaws. We haven't yet developed a stable surveillance system."
"I see potential in this technology," Douhuan said thoughtfully. "Imagine deploying such insects in high-traffic areas to monitor activity remotely, reducing our patrol workload significantly."
"That sounds ambitious, but the current breeding process is expensive and inconsistent. We're not yet confident in its practical application," Shibi admitted.
"That's understandable," Douhuan nodded. "But the Police Force is willing to invest. We'll allocate 80 million ryo annually to sponsor the research and development. Once the system is stable, we can formally implement it across the village."
"80 million…?" Shibi was as stunned as Inuzuka Jaw had been. To a minor clan like the Aburame, 80 million ryo was an astronomical sum.
Even Kakashi, who overheard the conversation, couldn't help but be amazed. "Where are you getting all this money? Isn't the Uchiha Clan notoriously not that wealthy?"
Douhuan gave a cryptic smile. "Curious, aren't you? If you see a mission heading to Wave Country, take it. I'll teach you how to make a fortune."
