Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

The Yandere Goddess (5)

"What are you doing here?" Her eyes narrowed and the frown dug in deeper.

"Waiting for you." Satsuki said nonchalantly in such a cutesy tone, swinging her legs while staring at her own reflection, and smiling like a fool.

The blonde was silent for a while, just staring at her back. She took notice of the strange symbol engraved on the back of her blue shirt. It looked like a red fan with a white handle.

"Why?" She finally asked.

"Hm?" Satsuki turned her head to look at her, smiling. Looking all innocent-like. "Why what?

"Why were you waiting for me?" She snapped harshly.

"I was bored." She had a Cheshire-like grin on her face. "Big bro won't play with me, and the other kids are all busy studying for the exams next week. So I thought I might see you here again."

"Then why aren't you studying?" Her voice dripping with venom.

"Don't need to." She bragged. "Got it all in my head." She poked the side of her forehead three times.

"Good for you." Naruko spat and turned away, planning to head back to the orphanage.

"Why aren't you studying?" Satsuki asked her the same question, making the blonde stop on her tracks.

"I… didn't take any notes." She looked down in regret.

"Mmhm." Satsuki made a sound at the back of her throat. "So what's your name?"

The blonde looked back at her with hesitation in her eyes.

"…Uzumaki, Naruko." She said slowly. She had a bad reputation among the village, although she didn't know why, and she wasn't sure how he'd react. She saw the other girl's face light up and eyebrows widen.

"The fox girl?!" Satsuki perked up, having heard of her from the adults. "No way." She shook her head in disbelief.

Naruko's eyes were cast down depressingly into the river. " Yeah, bet you're scared of me now, huh?"

"Hm…" she leaned in close to her face. "You don't look so scary, if anything; you look kind of cute."

"C-c-cute?!" The blonde stumbled a few steps backwards, blushing. Nobody had ever called her "cute" before. Most of the time it was insults and mockery her way—so a compliment felt so alien to her. She fell flat on her butt.

She rose up and padded her rear—hearing laughter from the raven haired girl she was talking to a few seconds ago. Her blue eyes glared at her—so she was just making fun of her!

"Tsk," Naruko turned her head to the side in annoyance. What was this girl deal? Whatever, she wasn't gonna put up with it. "I'm outta here." She turned to leave.

Before she could go, she felt a hand on her shoulder.

"Hey, come on, didn't mean to make you leave." Satsuki told her

She brushed off her hand.

"Hmph."

Then she left.

"I meant it."

"Oh?" She raised a brow. "Meant what?"

The two girls now sat a good five feet apart from each other on the river bank, staring at their own reflections.

"When I said you were cute." Satsuki stated falling on her back landing on the grassy riverbank, her view now shifted to the clouds above. "I meant that. You really are cute."

Naruko blushed. "Oh," She smiled at the compliment, feeling warm—it was a feeling that felt alien to her. It felt… nice. "Thanks."

She eyed her for a second then turned back to her own reflection on the river. She didn't know what to say next. She had never been in a situation like this before. All the other kids hated her—the adults were no better. Should she say something to her? Does she even know what to say?

"Hey," She called out to her.

"Hm?" The raven haired girl looked at her blushing face.

"What's your name? I already told you mine."

"My name is Uchiha Satsuki. Nice to meet cha!"

"You're still here?"

"Yup."

"You must really be bored." Naruko stated.

Satsuki nodded her head. "Yeah, Nii-san won't help me train. He's got another important mission—no time for her cute little sister at all."

Naruko rolled her eyes. "Get over yourself."

"Meh," Satsuki just waved a hand. "So, you didn't take any notes? You wanna borrow mine?" She took out her notebook from her backpack and handed it to her.

Naruko looked at it for a few seconds, contemplating whether or not to take it. She was failing her grades and if it kept up; she would be repeating the year—and she did not want that. "What's the catch?"

"Play with me." She stated. "I'm bored. Really, really, really bored."

She was whining now. Naruko took note. Did she really have nothing better to do with her time? She has to be if she keeps going back here to see her.

"O-okay…" She hesitantly took the notebook from her hands. "Thanks."

"Hn," Satsuki bubbled. "Tomorrow then?"

"Okay!"

***

"What's the matter? Why are you looking so down?" Satsuki tilted her head.

"I—"

"Yes?"

"I can't understand this." Naruko waved the notebook in front of her. The content inside all looked like some strange alien language to her.

"Which part?"

She looked down, scared to face her in the eye. "All of it."

Satsuki chuckled.

"You want me to tutor you?" She offers, saying it like it was no big deal.

"T-tutor me? Why would you do that?"

"Cause you don't know nothin'."

"No, I meant why would you go so far for me?"

Satsuki grinned.

"Cause I'm bored."

***

"Satsuki, Oy! Satsuki!"

Satsuki looked back to the screaming girl running towards her.

"I did it! I got a hundred on the midterms exam, thanks!" Naruko smiled at her.

"No problem," Satsuki chimed. She was rather proud of herself, being able to tutor other kid to get a perfect score. Though, she was rather surprised that Naruko managed to memorize all that. She was jealous; she herself only got a ninety-eight.

Guess, Naruko was not as stupid as she looks.

"So, will you play with me now?"

Naruko nodded. "Okay."

***

"Go away!" Satsuki spat at her.

Naruko winced. She had heard the news. She knew her only friend must have been devastated. Who wouldn't be? Having their entire family killed by their own brother, flesh and blood.

Satsuki's watery, bloodshot eyes widened when she felt two arms wrap around her neck in a tight, warm hug.

"There, there, let it all out…" She coerced like a mother. "I'm here, and I promise I'll never leave you."

Satsuki sniffed. "Go away…" she warned, feeling her fists clench. She felt Naruko's hair brush over her as she shook her head.

"I won't leave you." She tells her, almost promising.

"…You promise?" Satsuki cocked her head to hers, their noses almost touching.

"Promise."
