In the following week, we were tasked with containing multiple new outbreaks, escorting convoys between siege capitals, and other similar missions.
After killing Nightmare creatures day and night I even got a fun new memory.
Memory Name: Carver's Reverie
Rank: Awakened
Type: tool
Description: Some say this knife was once wielded by a master artisan who sought to capture the souls of the world in his carvings. Others claim it was born from the sorrow of a lone sculptor who could never bring his creations to life. Regardless, in the hands of a skilled user, this blade can shape more than just wood...
With this new memory in hand, I started collecting bones from the Nightmare creatures and practiced making crude figures from them. I must say its quite calming.
Anyway, back to the present.
[You have slain Fallen Devil, Defiled Witness.]
[Your soul grows stronger.]
"Captain, that was the last one," Veylen reported as the cohort gathered around me.
"Good job. Get the Rhino here and rest for a bit."
Just as I finished speaking, my communicator rang. Taking it out of my armor, Master Jet's figure appeared as a hologram, his tone even.
"I see you've finished."
"Yes, your timing couldn't be better—I just slew the last Nightmare creature."
"Good. New orders just came in from Army Command."
"And they are?"
"A Corrupted Tyrant has appeared. We need to eliminate it as soon as possible."
"Although I'm quite confident, I don't think my cohort alone is enough for that."
"Of course it isn't. That's why you'll be meeting up with Queen and heading to this location. I'll already be there, and Sunny will be joining as well."
"Will that be enough?"
"Probably not, which is why a Saint will also be coming to assist."
"Then I'm reassured."
With everything settled, I walked over to my team and tossed the communicator to Veylen.
"This is our next location. We're to meet up with Ascended Winter on the way."
"Yes, sir."
It didn't take even an hour to meet up with Master Winter before heading to the assigned location. Once we arrived, I climbed out of the Rhino and said,
"We have time before the fight, so get comfortable—rest and eat while we wait. You can introduce yourselves to the other cohorts if you want. Oh, and take this."
I summoned [Casket of Forgotten Threads] and pulled out some snacks and instant coffee.
"Enjoy."
"Thank you, Sir," my drooling team members responded in unison.
Leaving them to their food, I walked toward Master Jet and Winter. A third figure stood with them—Saint Tyris.
'Hmm, she's a bit weaker than Sir Gilead.'
"It's good to see you both again. And nice to meet you, Lady...?"
"Oh, Chris, you're here." Master Jet gestured toward the woman beside him. "She is Saint Tyris from the White Feather Clan. She'll be handling the Tyrant."
Saint Tyris simply nodded in acknowledgment.
"I feel so confident already," I said dryly. "Anyway, do we know anything about these creatures yet?"
"Not yet," Jet replied. "We're waiting for our scout."
"Hmm... even from this distance, I can sense them—around five hundred in total, mostly Fallen. More than twenty Corrupted, and the Tyrant."
"Impressive. Can you tell us more about them?" Winter asked expectantly.
"Unfortunately, I can only feel their presence, not discern their exact forms. We'll have to wait for Sunny for that."
"It's fine," Jet said. "He should be arriving any moment now."
As soon as he spoke, the sound of a moving vehicle reached our ears.
"Speak of the devil."
