Benjamin was beyond furious to begin with. His mouth was tight and he was pacing in the room sharply while worrying about his father. Of course, the second he heard Lucas's remarks, he turned to look at Henry with even more dissatisfaction.
"Dad—"
"Don't," Benjamin raised his hand; he was too furious to even listen to the excuse that Henry had prepared. "Don't even say a word. I am telling you, Henry. You are inclined to stay with her if something happens to Dad today because of this woman. Then you might as well get lost. I cannot believe that you let this woman run rampant, even though you were aware of your grandfather's health conditions."
Henry lowered his head without a fight.
Mia knew that he wanted to quibble with Benjamin. It was not in his blood to retreat, but he was doing it for Jamie. He was worried that if he fought with Benjamin, his father would blame Jamie even more.
Considering Benjamin was the one person he needed to please to marry Jamie, Henry was willing to swallow his pride this time around.
Mia didn't know how to feel about this. She turned to look at Grandpa Emmett and noticed his eyes flickering. She said to Benjamin, "Uncle Ben, look. Grandpa Emmett is waking up."
Her words hardly landed in the room when Grandpa Emmett opened his eyes and looked at the ceiling with his brows furrowed in confusion.
Benjamin dumped everything to one side and hurried to the end of the bed with Henry and Lucas. Mia wanted to follow suit, but when she thought about her current identity, she stopped and retreated to her spot.
"Dad, how are you feeling?" Benjamin asked, and at the same time, he called for the doctor. "Doctor James, come and take a look at my father. He is awake."
Doctor James hurried inside the room and took a moment to examine Grandpa Emmett. It took him ten minutes to pull away his stethoscope. "Senior Mister Holman is fine. But his blood pressure is still a bit hig,h and with the current condition of his body, I don't think you should do or say anything to provoke him any further."
"Anything that agitates him needs to be pushed back until his condition improves."
"Please be considerate of the fact that Senior Mister Holman had just finished recuperating after his lung surgery. He is of age and cannot withstand any shocking news for the time being. As his family, you need to be careful and calm."
"Don't worry, Doctor," Lucas replied as he took charge of the situation. Even though he had been back for just a few hours, he could actually control the situation of the Holman family with ease. "We will make sure that Grandpa gets enough rest and peace that he needs to recuperate with ease."
'Oh, he is trouble,' thought Mia. Even though she didn't know anything about Lucas, Mia had held enough business meetings with men to know that this man was more skilled than Henry.
Disgruntled Henry looked at Lucas, but he dared not lose his temper in front of his father.
Doctor James nodded. He prescribed a few medicines to calm Grandpa Emmett's spiking heart rate in case of need but he also left a warning and told them to avoid such situations.
"Are you happy now?" demanded Benjamin in a low, anger-filled voice, returning his attention to Henry and Jamie. "Is this enough for you two? If not, take a knife and plunge it in my chest, will you?! One thing after another, the entire family has been turned into a mess because of you."
"Dad, you are over-exaggerating—"
"Oh, you mean to say that your grandfather falling unconscious due to this woman is nothing too serious?"
"I never meant to say that; I just meant that Jamie didn't know about Grandpa's condition. She honestly didn't mean it. If our family had given her enough security, then she wouldn't be rushing to claim her position and our relationship."
"A woman who breaks a marriage will never be given the security, much less a place in this family," a low, authoritative voice joined i,n and everyone turned to look at Grandpa Emmett.
Henry, who had been trying hard to pave the way for his relationship with Jamie, was stunned upon hearing the words of his grandfather. He stepped forward and objected, "Grandpa—"
"Shut up!" Benjamin warned his son with his eyes. He seemed like he wanted to slit his own son from his throat to his sternum. "Did you not hear what the doctor said just now?"
"Let him speak, Benjamin." Grandpa Emmett stopped his son and turned to look at Henry. "Go on, boy, say what you want to. I also want to hear how you are going to defend cheating on your wife with another woman. Because I have never heard of an excuse that could or would make it justifiable."
Henry parted his lips with great momentum, but when it came to justifying his actions, he couldn't. How could someone even justify the things that he had done?
A part of Henry was annoyed with his inaction; he shrugged and defended himself in a loud voice, "I don't think there was anything wrong with what I did. This woman married me by sheer lies and schemes. Even if I cheated on her so what? She got what she wanted, right? Mia has enjoyed the perks of being my wife; it's about time she clears up the position that doesn't belong to her."
"Just being loud doesn't change wrong into right," Grandpa Emmett's nostrils flaring. "However, I will not wrong the girl by making her marry a gutless, spineless, and foolish arsehole like you again."
"Grandpa!"
Henry felt humiliated upon hearing such harsh words from his grandfather, but at the same time, he was overjoyed. He thought that Grandpa Emmett had accepted him and Jamie.
But then he saw Grandpa Emmett turn to Mia and say, "I believe that working for him would be a pain in your ass, so instead of staying under his wing—why don't you move to Lucas's company?"
