I couldn't breathe.
Lucian's wolf was on top of me, pinning me so thoroughly that even the air around us felt like it had been stolen. My body trembled beneath his, but not from fear—at least not entirely. The mate bond in this form… it was so much worse—or better—I didn't even know anymore.
Everything felt amplified. His scent. His heat. His presence.
My instincts screamed to melt into him, to let him hold me like this forever, to give in to the bond that connected us like an invisible, burning thread. But my brain… My brain was in chaos. Because now I knew three version of Lucian.
There was the Lucian in my dreams—the soft one, the one who whispered things that made my heart flutter, the one who held me like I was rare jewel.
Then there was the real Lucian. Cold. Distant. Sarcastic. Sometimes cruel. He barely looked at me, unless it was to taunt me or make some pointed jab that cut deeper than I liked to admit.
