I stood up quickly, almost as if my body already knew—the moment I'd been preparing for had finally arrived.
A deep breath escaped me. So much had happened in such a short time.
I opened the door, and there he was—Aiden. His expression was painted with concern, but his presence still made my pulse flicker in ways I didn't want to overanalyze. i hadn't had time to see him clearly since I woke up suddenly.
"Can you wait inside for me?" he said, stepping closer. His voice was soft and soothing. Then, he leaned in and brushed a kiss on my forehead—tender and unhurried.
I smiled, surprised by how easily my lips found his. Even in the middle of chaos, he was still this… sweet.
"Aiden!" his mother's voice called lightly from below
"I know your mom is here," I said, trying to steady my voice. "Believe me, I've been preparing for this."
"This is different," he replied gently, guiding me toward his room with a look that told me not to argue.
"I can handle it," I insisted.
