The heavy wooden doors of the headmaster's office creaked open further, and Headmaster Osric gestured for the students to enter. Rynhara hesitated for a moment, exchanging a glance with Elara, who gave her an exaggerated thumbs-up.
"Go on, Shooting Star," Elara teased, her grin wide. "Make me proud. Or cause a scene. Either works."
Rynhara rolled her eyes and stepped inside, joining the throng of students filling the grand chamber. The room was vast, with towering bookshelves, intricate magical diagrams etched into the floor, and an enchanted chandelier that cast shifting constellations across the ceiling.
The headmaster took his place at the front of the room, flanked by several teachers, including Professor Marla, who looked as stern as ever, and Professor Liana, who offered a polite but distant smile.
"Welcome, champions," Osric began, his deep voice commanding the room's attention. "You have been chosen to represent our academy at the International Magic and Combat Symposium. This is a great honor—and a great responsibility."
The students stood in tense silence, their expressions ranging from excitement to barely concealed dread.
"As you know, the Symposium is not merely a tournament. It is a test of character, strength, intellect, and teamwork. To succeed, you must trust your allies as much as your own skills."
At this, Rynhara felt a twinge of unease. Trust? She scanned the room, noting the familiar faces of Lyra, Kira, and others from the tournament. Several of them still shot her sideways glares, clearly holding grudges from their previous encounters.
"The teams," Osric continued, "have been carefully selected to ensure balance and diversity of talent. Each team will consist of five members."
He waved his hand, and five shimmering orbs of light appeared in the air. Each orb floated over a different section of the room before bursting into an array of colors, forming lists of names.
Rynhara's eyes darted to the orb nearest her, its golden light projecting names onto the air.
Team 3:
1. Rynhara Drakethorne
2. Lyra Duvain
3. Kaelith Stormclaw (4th Year, Beast Tamer)
4. Zarion Taldren (5th Year, Illusionist)
5. Selina Verdis (6th Year, Holy Knight)
"Well," Rynhara muttered under her breath, "this is going to be... interesting."
Lyra, standing a few paces away, let out an audible groan. "Of course, I'm stuck with you."
"Likewise," Rynhara shot back, crossing her arms.
Kaelith Stormclaw, a towering boy with wild green hair and a massive saber-toothed tiger lounging at his feet, grinned. "This is going to be fun. I love chaos."
Selina Verdis, a composed and elegant sixth-year clad in gleaming white armor, sighed. "I'll pray for us all."
Zarion Taldren, a slender fifth-year with a mischievous glint in his eye, merely smirked. "Well, at least we'll be entertaining."
Once the teams were finalized, Headmaster Osric clapped his hands, and the room transformed. The walls shimmered and shifted, giving way to a vast forested landscape filled with glowing crystals and ominous shadows.
"This," Osric announced, "is the first of many trials you will face. A simulation designed to test your teamwork and adaptability. Your objective is simple: retrieve the crystal shard at the heart of the forest and return it here. But beware—other teams may try to take it from you."
The room erupted into murmurs.
"Oh, great," Lyra muttered. "A glorified game of capture the flag."
Kaelith cracked his knuckles. "I hope they try to stop us. I've been itching for a fight."
Selina frowned. "We should focus on strategy, not brute force."
Zarion tilted his head, clearly amused. "Why not both?"
Rynhara sighed. "Let's just get this over with."
The teams were transported to different starting points within the simulation. Rynhara's team found themselves in a dense forest clearing, the air thick with the hum of magic.
"Alright," Selina began, her tone authoritative. "We need a plan. Kaelith, can your tiger scout ahead?"
Kaelith nodded, whistling sharply. His tiger bounded into the trees, its glowing eyes scanning the terrain.
"I'll set up illusions to misdirect any teams that get too close," Zarion offered, his hands already weaving intricate patterns in the air.
Lyra huffed. "And what about her?" She jabbed a finger at Rynhara. "What's the Shooting Star Princess going to do?"
Rynhara smirked, unsheathing her katana. "I'll handle anyone stupid enough to attack us head-on."
Kaelith returned, his tiger growling low. "We've got company. Two teams converging on the shard—and us."
"Perfect," Rynhara said, her grin widening.
Selina sighed. "I have a bad feeling about this."

The Ambush
As the team moved toward the shard, they encountered their first opponents: Team 5, led by a fiery second-year who wielded dual flaming axes.
"Well, well," the leader sneered. "Looks like we found some prey."
Kaelith cracked his knuckles. "Prey? Buddy, you just poked the wrong bear."
The clearing erupted into chaos. Kaelith's tiger lunged at the axe-wielder, while Zarion's illusions created phantom attackers to confuse the enemy. Lyra launched a barrage of ice spells, freezing the ground and trapping several opponents in place.
Rynhara, meanwhile, danced through the fray, her katana slicing through spells and weapons alike.
"Is that all you've got?" she taunted, deflecting a fireball with a flick of her blade.
The fight was intense but brief. Team 5 retreated, their leader shouting curses as they fled into the trees.

Closing In
The shard's glow grew brighter as Rynhara's team neared its location. But just as they reached the clearing where it rested, another team appeared—Team 1, led by none other than Kira.
"Well, isn't this a surprise?" Kira said, her rapier gleaming in the light of the shard.
"Kira," Rynhara muttered, tightening her grip on her katana.
"Rynhara," Kira replied with a smirk. "Shall we settle our score?"
Selina stepped forward, raising her shield. "We don't have time for this."
Kira laughed. "Oh, but we do."
The two teams squared off, the tension palpable.
"Let's make this quick," Rynhara said, her eyes locked on Kira.
