Chapter 11 - First kill

The Three colored rabbit swayed left and right after it was attacked, blood poured down like rain and covered the ground around it.

It opened its mouth and tried to make a sound but it choked on its own blood and began to vomit blood as well.

Despite all this, the Three colored rabbit still tried to escape into the forest.

Its desperate struggle made it look so pitiful that Alex felt very bad for it. He felt very bad at the death of the magic beasts, and a strong wave of anger surged in his chest.

Shortly after, the rabbit finally lost all strength and fell to the ground; blood kept gushing out from the wound in its neck but it was already dead.

Alex's eyes flashed, and he turned to look at the culprit that had killed the rabbit he had set free; strong killing intent surged within him, and the mana in his body surged as well.

The shadow that had ambushed the rabbit turned out to be a single-horned snake. Alex recognised the snake at first glance, he remembered it from the knowledge that the previous Alex had gathered from reading many books.

This snake was a magic beast with a special poison that would make one bleed excessively from a single bite, even if it was a small prick. This would make its victim bleed to death in a very short time.

The single-horned snake that was three meters long and had a few centimetres long horn poking out of its small head slowly slithered toward the dead rabbit; it was about to feast after a successful hunt.

Alex realised that the snake was also a common ranked magic beast. As for why it was able to kill the rabbit in a single strike despite the two of them being in the same rank, it was pretty obvious.

It had sneaked up on the other party, plus, it was a born hunter that fed on other beasts and was very familiar with Killie. Plus, there were strength differences even amongst beasts of the same rank.

The snake didn't seem to have noticed Alex, who was up on the tree as it moved toward the dead rabbit; it opened its small mouth that later stretched to a frightening extent as it took a large bite from the rabbit.

Alex's eyes twitched behind his mask.

"Since you willingly kill others, then you don't have any issues being killed as well," Alex mumbled to himself as his eyes turned silver-white.

The one-horned snake was a magic beast that was both dangerous to humans and other magic beasts, so Alex had no problem killing it.

Ten dazzling silver-white stars appeared behind Alex and connected into two-star patterns in under a second, and a burst of silver energy rushed into his body; he was about to use a core space spell!

"Space bullet," Alex mumbled softly as he pointed a finger at the snake on the ground.

Pium!

A sound that was akin to whistling sounded as an invisible bullet shot from Alex's finger and sped toward the one-horned snake.

The space bullet was a core spell that created invisible bullets that were as powerful as the Mage's mental strength, it was difficult to detect and was incredibly fast as well.

The space bullet that Alex had shot travelled through space in less than a split second and quickly arrived above the snake.

Boom!

The space bullet pierced through the one-horned snake effortlessly before crashing into the ground and causing the ground to shake as if a meteor had crashed into the ground.

A one-shot kill!

The snake didn't even detect a thing before it died, the attack had been too sudden and powerful!

Immediately after Alex killed the snake, a notification appeared in front of his eyes.

…..

[Mission complete, 10 exp!]

[Detected that the host has acquired his first kill, the host has received a gift from the system.

Skill: Craftsman!

Craftsman: the host can use exp points to create spells related to his elements, the amount of exp used in crafting will be determined by the system based on the strength of the spell crafted!]

....

Alex "...."

His mind went blank for a few seconds after reading the notification from the system, Alex had to read it three more times to make sure that he wasn't seeing things. After reading for the fourth time, Alex was certain that it was the real deal; his eyes weren't playing tricks on him!

He felt like screaming and dancing as his body was experiencing unimaginable excitement at the moment. Alex felt like screaming, and his whole body was trembling.

What did this mean? It meant that the system was giving him Sage mage rank privileges in advance!

One had to know that in the mage system, there were limited numbers of spells that mages of different elements could use.

Take the space element, for instance; at the Adept rank, mages could only use one spell, which was the popular telekinesis.

They would have to wait till they break through to the core rank before they could learn more spells, which were the space wall that was used as defence and the space bullet that Alex had just used to kill the one-horned snake.

After that, they would need to reach the expert mage rank before they could then learn an additional spell, Space Cut.

To put it simply, space mages could only use the already established six spells that were scattered through the various ranks until the sage rank where they would then be able to create their own spell!

As for why it was like that, Alex didn't know. He just learned that it had always been like that for as long as magic had existed on Eldora, mages of the various elements could only use the established spells that had been widely spread through the planet. Only those at and above the sage rank could create more spells and decide whether or not to teach them to younger generations.

But who would waste their time creating weak spells that would be useless to them after reaching the sage rank? Thus the reason why the number of spells that everyone below the Sage rank could cast had remained the same.

But with this skill, Alex had literally been exempted! He no longer needed to wait for the sage rank before he could create other spells.

This also meant that he could use more spells than other mages of the same rank!

Barely calming down his excitement, Alex called out his system profile and the screen appeared in front of him immediately.

...…

Alex's eyes sparked with excitement; it was there, the skill was there, and he could use it anytime.

Alex then looked at his exp that was currently at 200 and could allow him to level up twice, he already had 190 points before coming and killing that one-horned snake had added 10 points to it.

Alex concluded that it was indeed better to kill beasts to farm exp points. Had he stuck to reading, it would have taken him longer to get 10 exp points since he would need to finish the whole book to get just five exp points.

"Although killing beasts has its own risk, it's still faster than reading. Moreover, I'm currently at the edge of the border so I shouldn't encounter any powerful magic beasts." Alex concluded, and these two dead beasts on the ground confirmed his judgment; both were weak beasts, so the rest in this region shouldn't be stronger.

After this, Alex returned his focus to his new skill and the 200 exp points he had. He contemplated if he should use them to level up and increase his rank or use them to test out his new skill and try creating his first spell.

"Would the system also reward me for creating my first spell? It seemed to be rewarding me for doing things for the first time." Alex thought to himself, his eyes filled with expectations.

He was looking forward to other things that the system would give him, sadly, he didn't know the requirements for unlocking the system's gifts.

He would just wait and see.
