Chapter 297 - Title: “The Number Wars Begin”

POV: Blackwood Royal Broadcast — Official Empire Announcement

Location: Dominion Square — Capital Transmission Hub

---

The golden Blackwood Seal glows behind the podium. Citizens gather across the Empire — from the towering First-Class quadrants to the dim-lit survival blocks — all screens now showing the face of power.

Blackwood 1 stands.

His presence is absolute.

Chris Blackwood. The God of the Empire. Blackwood 1.

> "From this day forward," he begins, his voice like thunder wrapped in silk,

"Numbers shall no longer be permanent. The crown must never rest — not even in identity."

The crowd falls into silence. Not out of fear — but awe. No ruler dares to strip the elite of their safety. Until now.

> "Each cycle — on the First of the Blackwood Year — an auction shall be held again. All numbers shall be placed at risk. Those who fail to defend their number, with coin, loyalty, and service…"

He pauses, eyes piercing.

"…shall be dethroned."

A gasp ripples across the dominion.

Lord Halven (11) clutches his chair in his estate, eyes shifting to his wife — 58.

Even their children, 11i and 11ii, feel the quake of uncertainty in their lineage. Their number may not be theirs next year.

No one is safe. Not even Number 2.

> "You may bid for another's number if you can match the price and outbid them. You may rise. Or you may fall. It is now a meritocracy of dominion."

A New Law: The Rolling Auction

Annual Date: Blackwood Year Day One

Target: All numbered citizens

System:

You retain your number by rebidding it annually.

Failing to participate in the auction results in number forfeiture.

Anyone may challenge a number by outbidding the current holder.

Only Blackwood Numbers 1-5 are immune, unless challenged directly by Blackwood 1.

The auction has just become war.

Ruthless. Regal. Blackwood.

---

Lord 12, an oil and media tycoon, stares at his datapad.

> "They'll come for me next year... I can feel them."

"I've been comfortable too long."

And in the quiet, away from the auction platforms, a group of wives—led by Lady Serah (58)—begin to whisper plans of co-purchasing power.

One wife. One year.

Next, she may be Blackwood 6.
