Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: I'm a Pirate Too

Chapter 17: I'm a Pirate Too

"What happened to the town...?"

The civilians' faces turned pale.

The broken ship entered the harbor without encountering any resistance. Some civilians even jumped into the water in their haste and swam towards the town.

"Sag, are we still going to rob them?" Lily asked Sag.

The town was in ruins. What was there to rob?

They were here to rob, not to scavenge.

Sag's face was also grim.

*What the hell!*

He just wanted to rob a town. How could he be this unlucky?

"Go ashore!"

Sag gritted his teeth. "A thief doesn't leave empty-handed! Half the town is still standing, isn't it? Let's see what we can find!"

Just as he finished speaking, he glanced at the buildings that were damaged almost beyond recognition, and added, "At least get some supplies!"

"Yes! Captain Sag!"

Gin led the way, stepping onto the pier and leaping down, taking a dozen or so pirates with him into the harbor. The rest remained on the ship, in case of attack.

Pirates rarely attacked with their full force.

Sag didn't have a base. If he had a base, he would have let the pirates roam freely.

He also disembarked with Lily, approaching the town from the pier.

The town's main street had been plowed into a huge gash. The buildings on both sides showed signs of being hit by cannon fire, but deeper in, the buildings looked like they had been smashed by some giant object, showing large dents.

"No, it's gone!"

As they reached the town square, they heard cries from ahead, and then saw a crowd gathered in the center of the square.

Apart from the civilians from the ship, there were more people gathered there, all looking disheveled and worse for wear.

However, Sag didn't find any corpses on the ground. The people of the town should all be alive.

"What's gone?" Sag asked instinctively.

One of the civilians from the ship turned his head and cried out, "Our Sun Sails have been stolen!"

"Sun Sails?" Sag looked puzzled, turning to Gin.

"It seems to be Compass Town's most famous product. I've only heard of it..." Gin replied.

"It's the best canvas!"

Among the civilians, an old man leaning on a cane spoke up. "It's our treasure!"

"Who are you?" Sag looked over.

"I'm the mayor of Compass Town. I heard, and thank you for saving the people of our town."

The mayor nodded at him. "We are a large town that produces canvas. We have the best canvas in the entire East Blue. Besides the well-made canvas, every twenty years, we also create a batch of the strongest canvas. All the canvas artisans in the East Blue gather, using the best craftsmanship and the best materials to make the strongest canvas!"

Every twenty years, Compass Town, perhaps due to the characteristics of the island or the climate, would harvest a batch of extremely fine raw materials. At this time, all the canvas makers in the East Blue would come here and work together to create a batch of the strongest canvas.

And the quantity of the canvas was very scarce. One batch was only enough for one ship. Every time it was made, they would hang it in the town for display.

"This kind of canvas won't be damaged even by cannon fire. Even the biggest storms won't tear it. It has excellent toughness and elasticity, and the most suitable wind-catching ability. Even fire can't easily burn it. Because it's made during the most intense sunlight of the year, we call it... the Sun Sail!"

The mayor said it with extreme pride, but soon deflated. "Now it's gone..."

Sag raised an eyebrow. "Pirates did it?"

"It was pirates."

The mayor said angrily, "Two days ago, a pirate ship came. They were very powerful, and they easily defeated our guard force. Even the warship couldn't do anything! They came here and caused destruction. Among them, a particularly tall man in a black robe took our Sun Sail!"

He slammed his cane on the ground and shouted, "That's the best product every twenty years! Those pirates won't even know how to use it!"

*Is that what he's concerned about...?*

"They are indeed detestable pirates!"

A civilian from the ship gritted his teeth and said something, then realized, "Captain, I'm not talking about you..."

"So, it was robbery?"

Sag clicked his tongue. "This is clearly vandalism. It's too much!"

"Captain..." The civilian looked over with gratitude.

Sag said angrily, "If they destroyed this place, how can we come back next time? They'll have to spend a lot of time rebuilding. It will be less time before we can rob them again. They have no sense of sustainability!"

Lily: "..."

*You're concerned about the wrong thing too...*

She asked the mayor, "How much is your Sun Sail worth?"

Sag gave Lily an appreciative look.

She immediately asked the key question.

The mayor shook his head. "It's not a question of its value. How can this kind of canvas be measured in money? Canvas is made to be sailed. Of course, only the best ship can be worthy of it. If it's not the best ship, we won't sell it!"

"So the price of the last batch..." Sag asked.

"I don't know. It was also stolen twenty years ago."

So every time it's made, it gets stolen!

"That's a pity. This batch of canvas should have been worth a lot of money if it were sold," Sag sighed.

The mayor nodded in agreement, and then said, "Captain, if you came to buy something, then you'll be disappointed. You can see the state of the town. We have nothing now."

Ordinary canvas, after being made, would be placed in the market. And the market was near the harbor. After the pirates attacked, they burned all the remaining canvas. Now there was no canvas to sell.

"I'm not here to buy anything."

"Then you are..."

Sag smiled slightly and drew the flintlock pistol from his waist.

*Bang!*

With the gunshot, the other pirates uniformly revealed ferocious expressions.

"I'm a pirate too!" Sag said seriously.

Although there were only a dozen or so pirates, it was enough to deal with civilians who had no defensive capabilities.

"Pirates!!"

The civilians in the square finally reacted, looking at the pirates in terror.

"Pirates again... I knew it. Every time the Sun Sail appears, it will attract pirates."

The mayor sighed, then raised his head. "But this is our pride. Even if we're robbed by pirates, we will still make it!"

"Mayor!!" The civilians looked over with emotion.

"That has nothing to do with me... Old man, hand over some supplies. I won't rob anything else. Seeing how miserable you are, there's probably nothing good to rob."

The town was like this, so Sag naturally had no interest. He wanted to rob a prosperous place, not a destroyed town.

But since he had come, not robbing anything wouldn't do.

Other pirates could rob it, so why couldn't he?

No things?

There must be water!

There must be seasonings!

There must be food!

No matter what, he had to take something, otherwise he couldn't continue sailing.
