Chapter 20 - SUBSTITUTION

All the divisions were successfully divided into demolishers and overseers. Their ratio was not equal because more cadets were useful in reconstruction of the destroyed land than finishing off the remaining deathodds.

The adversity to rebuild the destroyed land was much greater than the task, which was killing the remaining deathodds. It was not necessary that each division group must be divided exactly into half members like us, assignment of duties between cadets like our group was an exception.

We demolishers were told to gather in the left front building of the giant control tower,... man they sure are keep getting us all around the space. How long are we going to go from one place to another like this? Anyway, all of the demolishers did the same as we were told to and assembled in the left front building of the gigantic clock tower.

........

After their arrival in the right front building of the clock tower, overseers were told to separate in defiant and normal ones. Defiants were told to enlist their names and calibers on the giant black board that was on the right wall of the right front building.

The right front building was of squared shape with white walls and white marble floor. There was a stage made of wood on the opposite wall of the entrance door. Ther was a giant black board on the right wall of the front building.

All the cadets took turns to write their names and calibers on the black board; to execute this work two lines were made with each cadet aligned in no specific descending or ascending or any hierarchy. The queue was made on the first come first serve rule.

Defiants were supposed to write their calibers and its type to determine how useful they will be in the revival of the dead land.

Erick was the leader of the overseers' group, and it was his duty to not let anything happen to his group. He was anxious and nervous and had streams of sweat dripping down his face even though there was a system of air conditioning in the front room.

Noticing all the sweat dripping from the face of Erick, Niall who was right behind Erick patted him on his back, suggesting him to calm down.

Receiving the calming blow from Niall, Erick turned his head around with nervous eyes and a pale face.

"Heck, man! Why are you so stressed about absolutely nothing!" Niall tried to give some courage to Erick.

"..." Erick kept looking at Niall with those crimson eyes of his without saying a word.

"..." The confident smile on Niall's face dropped in a flash after understanding what was about to happen. Erick was going to empty his stomach through his mouth right in the face of Niall, but when the digested food was ready to come out of Erick's mouth, he hurriedly put his hands on his mouth to cover it and used his caliber to prevent it from falling on Niall's face.

Niall who was leaning backwards and had taken a defensive position which was given to any human through instinct and had his eyes closed with maximum stress, opened them slowly one by one with turtle speed and straightened his back.

"Buddy, if you are this tensed then you should have let me become the leader." Niall gave his suggestion with a breath of relief.

"You think I knew I was going to be the vice leader!? You think I knew!? This whole partition of group into two is so stupid I swear!"

Erick complained.

"What? Why are you stressed out!? We don't have to put our lives on the line to help in rebuilding some houses. You know the construction companies of Rubridoire are helping Emerald's construction company for revival of destroyed land. We are just a source of manpower for them."

"It is easy for me to take orders from someone then giving them! It would have been golden if I was chosen as a demolisher!"

"Ahem!"

The cadet standing behind Niall cleared his throat to tell Erick that behind him some space is made, indicating him to walk forward.

Erick put a hesitant smile on his face and turned around to walk forward.

Niall had some doubts about this mission after hearing Erick's words. 'Why is he so stressed? He is second to Emma and Elizabeth in giving orders during the time of stakes.' Niall thought inwardly.

.....

After everyone was done with writing their names and calibers on the blackboard, an old man came to the stage with no mic in his hand. He had a receding hairline of white colour. His moustache was white with its ends rolling upwards.

He was wearing a normal army attire of black colour.

"Ahem! My name is Captain Bernard. I am a captain of space patrol and a trainer in Milky way's Heinsberg. I've... Ahem! Come here to told you guys about your duty and the significance of your mission."

Everybody started to listen attentively with some crooks passing remarks about the old man's receding hairline and some making fun of the old man's stuttering.

...........

950 cadets were present in the left front room of clock tower. All of the 950 cadets were demolishers.

You are thinking how do I know there are 950 cadets in the room? Well, it's because there is a giant counter in the front of entry door for anyone to see or to know how many demolishers are chosen for this group.

This front building room is complete white, with white walls, white marble stone and white ceiling. The only thing which is not white in this room is the stage of this room. The stage is made of wood and have brown colour which makes it stand out in this white room.

There were no seats in this room to relax our butts, well it is good because I was already fed up with sitting during our travel.

All of the cadets were standing with discipline at an arm's length from each other, forming five lines with 190 students in each. You are again wondering how I know it? Well, I guess it is good to let you guys have some suspicions.

...

After 20 minutes of waiting, an old lady wearing an army attire came to the stage from the wall behind the stage which was covered with red curtains. She came to the stage with an elegant and slow walk with her hands behind her back. She had white hair that were tied in a bun. The fact that I could see it meant that she was not wearing the army cap, which every army officer used to wear in my world.

"My name is Helda Zemmer. I am a captain in space patrol's Milky way division and a trainer in the respective galaxy's Heinsberg. You are brought here for your final enlightenment about this mission."

Small whispers of complain could be heard around us after hearing her.

"Again? How many times are we going to get this 'enlightenment'?"

"Ahem!.. Ahem!" The old lady cleared her throat, and threw a sharp gaze at everyone.

Soon there were no whispers in the room.

"All you demolishers will be going to the Lorein city of the Emerald land. That is the only area where deathodds are still roaming around. They are mostly hybrids with very few being advanced."

She stopped to see if anybody had any questions about anything, after finding no one asking a question she continued.

"There are no spectacles left according to our searches so you may rest assure. As you all know, Milky way has succeeded in doing their mission with much ease, Andromeda's cadets are expected to do the same. Your priority should be helping the stuck people rather than killing the deathodds, but you can do the former only when you do the latter. After rescuing people, you will escort them to the refugee camps that are created outside the operation zone, but don't worry there will be overseers all the time just outside the area to guide the rescued people to the camps. The camps will be run by some overseers of Andromeda's galaxy who will change their duties with the working Milky way's cadets and medical staff provided by the Emerald's top hospitals.

You captains will not interfere in this mission unless situation calls for it. That situation will appear only when a spectacle is sighted by someone."

'What? Only then!? They are making this mission too tough for us don't you think? Captains should be with us in this land in case of anything irregular occur.' I thought inwardly.

"If they notice anything strange, they will come for your aid and in the worst-case scenario, they will come to rescue you. Otherwise, they will be looking at you from Metagalactic Hawk. For Milky way's cadets it was different because they had created their operation bases in the conquered land."

"Ahem!" She again cleared her throat. "Your mission consists of 7 days, after three days you will be changing your location of duty. We decided it is best if your mission consists of 7 days, for your success and safety 7 days are enough. You will be now going to your organized location we have decided for you. We will give you small wristbands with roll numbers written on them."

Again, some whispers could be heard in the room. To silent the whispers she tapped her heel on the stage ground.

"We are giving you these small substitution cards. After reaching your designated place you will give this substitution card to the already assigned cadet. Some cadets were able to make their bases for operation while some were not! Your priority should be to make an operational base. Outside there are automobiles for your transport to the nearest possible place they can afford to, considering their safety."

........

The automobile was a van of same black colour as the old lady's uniform. There was the same design of Pegasus wings on each horizontal side of it. Wings were created with white colour. Our team was sitting in one van with other teams as well. Those teams were 120, 122 and 131. Hmph, if only Gil's or Rich team was here.

I saw some ruined places in the way, like collapsed buildings and destroyed land. But it was only at the end of our journey.

"Feeling nervous?" Brock mocked me, sitting on the bench opposite to ours.

"Not really." I shrugged.

"To us, it looks like you are wetting your pants!" Brock did not back down and gave me another dead humor taunt.

"You must be blin-"

"Ok, That's enough!" Emma interrupted.

Brock grimaced and looked at Andre who sitting beside him. Andre just shook his head in anger.

Are they planning something against me? I sure hope they are not! But why is Brock playing the role of Andre? Andre has been quiet for a long time now, but I don't think he is on good terms with me as he is constantly looking away from me.

"Our mission is just about to start don't fight among each other! Forget about all the bad things that happened in the last one and focused on this mission."

After hearing Emma's words both Andre and Brock grunted.

..............

Our van stopped and the driver told us to step out from the car. There was a base operation in front us, well it was just a tent... a huge tent. On the right side of tent there were some sign boards with operation zone written on them. These sign boards were also giving the vibe of futuristic world as there was only boundary of the sign that was materialistic, other than the boundary all the stuff written inside was projected in red light. Operation zone was especially bold. There were sign boards on the entire road with almost a distance of thirty feet. It means that area beyond these sign boards is the infected one, huh.

After hearing the sound of auto mobile stopping a guy came out from the tent and started talking with the van's driver. He had a buzz cut and was wearing a tight suit similar to ours but of black colour. Man, if only ours was like that too.

After he was done with his talk he turned backwards and called for others. 20 cadets appeared from the tent. All the boys had buzz cut and girls had their hairs tied in a bun.

Looking at them I wondered if ours Heinsberg's branch is too lenient on its cadets. I hope it is not in our loss.

"Hey, hey Norde don't you think we should also have a buzz cut? What if our hair become a hinder in our mission?" I asked with leaning towards him.

"If you dare touch my golden crown I will kill you, you bastard!"

Ok, I think I got it. People are very serious about their hairstyles. Well, I just want to style my hair back, but I had made a promise with my dad to make that hairstyle only when I am eighteen years old.

Pretty dumb thing to do, right!
