Chapter 35 - The cold night and a warm Coat

Jean reached for the small bundle of herbs she hadn't used yet and dabbed some on a clean leaf. "This'll sting."

"Is that your way of saying 'sorry for the pain I'm about to cause'?" Logan says mimicking.

"Nope. Just a warning."

She pressed the mixture to the scrape. Logan hissed.

Jean's face remained stone cold. "Next time, maybe don't act like a hero. You're no good to me dead."

Logan looked at her as she cleaned the wound, noticing the way her lashes fluttered as she focused. "You're really bad at thank-you speeches."

"And you're really bad at staying alive."

They sat in silence for a moment… awkward, intense, and full of things neither of them dared say aloud.

Then the scent of cooked meat caught her attention.

Jean stood and turned the sticks again. "Great. Our first jungle meal is a damn snake. We're really out here living the dream."

Logan buttoned his shirt back up and smirked. "Well, at least you got to see me shirtless. That must count as a win."
