Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

On the eve of his departure, William return to the estate, his mind swirling with thoughts of what might happen in his absence. He walks through the grand halls going towards the balcony facing the garden of the Astoria mansion.

William's gaze drifted towards the mighty old oak tree, its gnarled branches reaching towards the sky like ancient arms. The tree, a silent sentinel, stood as a poignant reminder of a time when he and Vanessa had been inseparable, a time of innocence and shared dreams.

He could almost hear their laughter echoing through the branches, see their youthful faces bathed in the golden light of a setting sun, as they sat beneath its shade, sharing secrets and gazing at the boundless sky.

The past, now tinged with a bittersweet nostalgia, seemed so distant, so utterly changed by the cold reality of the present. The tree, once a symbol of their bond, now stood as a silent witness to the shattered remnants of their relationship, a haunting reminder of the darkness that had consumed his sister.

What happened... to you, Vanessa? William whispered, his voice heavy with a mixture of sorrow and confusion.

He suddenly heard someone approaching as he turn around behind him, it was Vanessa, her presence chilling in his spine as ever. "I see you're still brooding, brother" she said in a mocking tone.

Vanessa sauntered closer to him, her presence a chilling reminder of the darkness that clung to her. "Worried about your little friends? Hmm?" she purred, her voice low and laced with a hint of amusement.

Leaning in, she whispered into his ear, her breath warm against his skin, "You should be," a dangerous glint in her eyes as she pulled back, her gaze lingering on him with a predatory intensity.

"What are you planning this time, Vanessa?" William scoffed, his voice laced with a mixture of defiance and apprehension. He narrowed his eyes, a steely glint reflecting his distrust, his awareness of the danger that lurked behind her cool façade.

He knew she was capable of anything, that her ambition knew no bounds, and he was determined to protect those he cared about, to expose her machinations, even if it meant risking his own safety.

"Oh...me? Well brother I don't have anything yet in plan but... Soon enough" she purred as she pokes his nose with a mocking chuckle.

"I have no time for your games, Vanessa," William said, brushing her finger away from his nose with a mixture of irritation and disgust. Her touch, once a sign of affection, now felt like a cold, calculating manipulation.

He had no patience for her games, for her attempts to control him, to manipulate his emotions. He had seen her true face, the darkness that lurked beneath her charm, and he refused to be a pawn in her elaborate game. He was done being her brother, done with her cruelty. He was ready to fight back.

"Oh?" Vanessa chuckled, a harsh, grating sound that sent a shiver down William's spine. "I'm not playing any games here, dear brother," she said, her eyes glinting with a cold, predatory gleam. They locked onto his, holding him captive, sending a wave of unease through him.

There was a dangerous truth behind her words, a chilling reminder that she was not playing. This was a war, and she was determined to win. The warmth of their former bond had been replaced by an icy chill, a sense of dread that threatened to consume him.

"But remember, William," she whispered, her voice a chilling blend of menace and seduction. "Soon, I'll do something to them. But don't put yourself in the middle of it," she said, her fingers tracing a cold path across his cheek, her eyes a predatory gleam. The touch, once a gesture of affection, now felt like a brand, a reminder of her power, her absolute control. She chuckled cruelly, a sound that echoed with the promise of pain, of vengeance.

It was a warning, a threat thinly veiled in a seductive whisper. She was playing a game, a deadly game where the stakes were high, and William, trapped in her web, was forced to watch helplessly as she moved her pieces towards a devastating conclusion.

William's face hardened, his jaw clenching as Vanessa's chilling words sank into his soul. He stared back at her, his eyes blazing with a mixture of anger, fear, and a flicker of defiance. He knew she was capable of anything, that her ambition knew no bounds, but a deep-seated protectiveness for Elara, Lita, and those she threatened, ignited a fire within him.

"You think you can just hurt them and I'll sit by and watch?" he finally asked, his voice a low growl. "You think I'll let you do that to them? You're wrong, Vanessa. I won't stand by and watch you destroy their lives." His words were laced with a newfound determination, a refusal to be a bystander in her twisted game. He might be powerless to stop her now, but he wouldn't give up.

He would find a way to fight back, to protect those he loved, even if it meant putting his own life on the line.
