Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: The Sky Above

The yellow lightning is much weaker than the blue lightning, but without his power, Ian is nothing more than a mere human.

His body gets split by the lightning bolt and burned to a crisp. He falls down to his death.

Hah! Easiest kill in my life.

"He can use power!"

Someone screams, and everyone ducks down. They are all terrified to the core.

Nadyr loses all the color in his face. The hand holding the gun is trembling again.

"How... It can't be. No one can use their power inside a Barrier."

Nadyr isn't wrong. Blaze tries to fuse the bone wand with his Force Shocker, but nothing comes out.

His equipment, however, has no problem using its power.

"Turn off the machine, Boss!"

Sergei shouts. He raises a rifle toward Blaze and pulls the trigger.

Nadyr looks over, shouting: "Why didn't you shoot?!"

His eyes open wide. He can't believe what he is seeing.

Behind Sergei, numerous rotting arms reach out from his shadow and hold him in place. His hands are immobilized, unable to even twitch.

Sergei tries to move his neck, slowly turning over to Nadyr.

"Help me..."

Thunder roars, and Sergei's brain explodes into a million pieces.

"What even is this power?!"

Arms of the Broken, the power given by the Set Piece Tattered Wanderer. Blaze gains this power whenever he equips both the Tattered Cloak and Tattered Mask.

He has never found a good time to use this power before.

Nadyr points his gun at the Barrier, intending to destroy it. Once he gains his Super Speed back, he can run away from here, change his name and his face, and start over.

Arms burst out from his shadow and restrained him tightly.

"Tch. Tch. Tch."

Blaze shakes his head in disapproval.

"If you didn't turn on this stupid machine, maybe you would have had a chance."

Nadyr made stupid decision after stupid decision.

He didn't use all his forces to attack Blaze from the beginning, trying to test Blaze's strength.

He then wasted Dimon's life just to challenge the resolve of Blaze and see if hostages can make him hesitate.

Now he turns on the Barrier, neutralizing everyone's power except Blaze equipment.

Nadyr Brozovic is truly... an idiot.

Another lieutenant of Nadyr, Slava, picks up a rifle and tries to attack. He is now immobilized by the rotting arms also.

Timon, the guy in the boilersuit, runs for his life and tries to jump off the roof.

He may break some bones, but with the physical attributes of an Awakened, he won't die and can even have the strength to run.

A lightning bolt ignites him. His entire boilersuit is set on fire, burning the guy inside.

Timon falls from the fifth story down to the ground. He manages to stand up and runs around in panic, feeling the pain of being burned alive.

The guy jumps inside the pool, hoping the water will extinguish the flame. But it is no use, the fire keeps on eating and eating. It burns the suit to ash, then burns the flesh to fresh-cooked meat.

A burned corpse is now floating on the pool, smoke releasing out from its black flesh.

The other goons, some try to run, others fall to their knees and beg.

Rotting arms burst out from their shadow and hold them still.

Wynona slowly gets up. She looks at Blaze from behind. Admiration fills her eyes.

"You guys can go up now."

The girls from the fourth floor ascend up the stairs.

Iris, the girl who just had her power back, now returns to the usual revealing clothes of the Roof. Her armor disappears again due to the Barrier.

The Barrier also neutralizes Hutton's power, causing his Mutual Sharing to be cancelled.

Hutton is now separated into Hugo and Anton again.

Their true forms are much less attractive than before, and their crazy antics return.

The girls look at them with extreme curiosity and a small amount of disappointment. Their handsome angel is nowhere to be found.

Iris stands beside Blaze and smiles stiffly.

"You say we can help, but it looks like it is unnecessary."

"Yes."

"What are you going to do with them? Some of them are very important officials inside Akansa."

"No one leaves here alive."

Blaze is trying to control one of the hands to break a goon's neck, but it seems like it is impossible. The rotting arms only hold the targets and cannot do any other action.

He just wants to test its limitations.

"No! Please! I have a daughter!"

A goon screams.

"I also have a sixty-year-old mother that needs me!"

"I haven't done anything wrong! I didn't touch any girls!"

And then more and more begin to beg for their lives. Even the officials and B-rank Awakeners start to plead.

"We didn't take those girls? We're only here to party!"

"I am innocent! I am a customer only!"

"Please let me go! I swear I can give you money!"

"It's too late now. You should have thought about today when you came here."

It is one thing to come and pay for sex. These 'customers', however, know very damn well that these girls are captives, slaves, and victims of human trafficking.

But they didn't and don't care. They only want to quench their lust. Where the Roof got their girls from is of no concern to them.

"Help the captives leave. The scene can get pretty bloody."

Blaze turns toward Iris.

"I understand.

Girls! Come and help!"

Iris leads the others to help bring the remaining captives out, fresh faces like Wynona are also among them.

Quite a few new girls are here. Most of them were snatched in the Void last night.

Wynona leaves with Iris, but she looks back at Blaze one last time. For some reason, his way of speaking reminds her of someone else.

"Who is he?"

Wynona says.

"I don't really know, either. But he calls himself the Wraith."

Iris says.

After the roof is evacuated, Blaze continues his execution.

"Kill yourselves!"

Blaze orders. Everyone is already terrified. One simple sentence of Voices and they can be dealt with.

He doesn't use this power on Nadyr, though.

Blaze releases Nadyr from the arms. He sits down on an outdoor sofa, watching the bloody scene unfold.

A song of death and anguish, screams of pain and regret.

They die off one by one.

Most of the people here are C-rank. A few are B-rank. There is also D- or E-rank, most coming from the customers.

"Come, Nadyr. Sit down with me!"

Blaze says. He pours himself and Nadyr a glass of wine.

He has never had the chance to drink wine before, so he wants to see what it tastes like and learn why everyone speaks so highly of it.

Nadyr is a huge and tall man. But right now, when he sits down beside Blaze, he looks small and twitchy like an anxious teenager.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?"

Blaze gestures toward the suicides.

"You are a sick man!"

"Hah! Who are you to say?"

"We might kidnap girls, but we never killed any. We're not like you."

"Really? What is this bullshit you're saying now?

Dimon kills at least two to three girls a month."

"How did you..."

"Haiz."

Blaze sighs.

"I really don't understand you, Nadyr. What are you even trying to do right now? Are you trying to manipulate me into releasing you or something?

It's fine anyway. I'll take a look at your memory later."

Nadyr picks up a wine glass. His hands are shaking profusely, making the liquid inside spill out constantly.

"What a nice view..."

Blaze remarks. The clear blue sky above a nice rooftop bar. The scene of perverts, criminals, and corrupted officials dying.

The air is truly becoming clearer every second.
