After returning home from the card shop, You Xuan took out the "Silent Magician" card, the shopkeeper's prized possession that had just been handed to him. He placed it on the table and examined it carefully, turning it left and right.

Of course, it definitely wasn't because the artwork depicted a curvaceous yet elegant figure—no, he was purely investigating the so-called authenticity of the spirit legends.

He tried hard to recall details from the original series. In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Judai received the Winged Kuriboh spirit card from the game, but afterward, it seemed like nothing much happened until the first episode when Kuriboh floated out on its own, chirping "Kuri Kuri" and chatting with Judai.

But his card here... didn't seem to show any signs of movement...

"Hello?"

"Anyone there?"

"..."

Great. No response at all.

An idea suddenly struck him. He quickly pulled out his Duel Disk and unfolded it with a flourish.

There was a theory that not everyone could see duel spirits—"Spirit Affinity" was a talent only a select few possessed. Perhaps the spirit had already appeared, but he simply couldn't see it.

Still, there was another way.

Using the holographic system of the Duel Disk to summon the spirit, he could use Kaiba Corporation's advanced technology to give the spirit a tangible image. Maybe then they could communicate.

The Duel Disk's holographic system activated, and amidst a dazzling array of magical circles, the majestic mage stepped forward gracefully. Her pristine white robes fluttered lightly with her movements, revealing glimpses of her slender, well-proportioned legs. The hem of her skirt danced like snowflakes in the wind.

Silent Magician, summoned.

She stood expressionlessly, cold and serene like a towering ice crystal tree. Her snow-white face resembled a glacier three feet thick.

You Xuan stared intently at the tall mage.

"Hmm…"

Perhaps Kaiba Corporation's projection technology was just that realistic. The texture of her skin, the icy gaze—it truly felt lifelike.

But the unblinking stare and the completely emotionless expression… surely this was just a hologram...

...right?

Just as You Xuan was observing her from the left side, he suddenly took a step back, looking up at the Silent Magician's eyes.

Her expression remained as calm as ever, staring straight ahead without deviation.

But perhaps it was just his imagination…

Just a moment ago, he thought he saw Miss Magician's… eyeballs move slightly?

It was as if she glanced at him, but the instant he looked up, she immediately averted her gaze.

She reverted to her stoic, poker-faced demeanor.

But the moment had been so fleeting that he couldn't be sure if he'd seen it correctly.

"Could it be that there really is a spirit… but she's pretending to be inactive?"

However, no matter how much he circled around the hologram afterward, there were no further suspicious reactions.

With no other options, he turned off the Duel Disk, retrieved the card, and placed it back on the table.

That evening, he planned to take a bath, go out for a walk to grab dinner, come back to review some questions to prepare for an upcoming test match, and then turn in early.

But at that moment, a brilliant idea popped into his head.

He remembered hearing somewhere that music was a universal language transcending species and cultures. Studies showed that many animals or plants responded to music, and in some fantasy works, even aliens communicated through music!

Thinking it wouldn't hurt to try, he turned on his music player and filled the room with some BGM suitable for dueling. The heavy metal melody roared with thunderous drumbeats, each note brimming with passion and power, as if thousands of warriors were charging across a battlefield.

It was the perfect hype song for card enthusiasts—one listen instantly made him feel invigorated, as though the next draw would change the world.

Satisfied, You Xuan set it to loop and headed to the bathroom to shower.

The fatigue of the day was soon washed away by the flowing water. As he dried his damp hair and returned to the room, he suddenly paused, frowning slightly as he sensed something unusual.

The music had stopped.

What was going on?

He approached the table and noticed that the music player had somehow switched to a stopped state.

Could it be…?

He thought for a moment, then pressed play again.

Pretending to leave the room to busy himself elsewhere, he immediately doubled back and peeked through the door crack.

After waiting patiently for less than a minute, he soon saw it—a translucent, ghostly figure materializing in midair, emerging with a faint ripple emanating from the card on the table.

Her white robes glowed ethereally, her skin appearing almost transparent under the moonlight streaming through the window, giving her an almost sacred aura.

You Xuan took a deep breath.

Wow. The shopkeeper wasn't bluffing.

There really were spirits…

The mage radiated a holy light, but her silent, floating movements seemed somewhat sneaky as she cautiously looked around, as if afraid of being caught.

She stealthily reached out and pressed a button on the music player.

The music stopped.

You Xuan: "......"

He reflected on his actions, realizing he might have overlooked something. The name "Silent Magician" probably wasn't just for show.

It seemed she didn't appreciate the thoughtful music he'd prepared.

But by sheer coincidence, his bizarre musical ritual had somehow summoned the spirit…

Suddenly, You Xuan pushed the door open and appeared at the doorway.

Silent Magician: "!!!"

The silver-haired beauty was startled, covering her mouth as she took a step back. A blush quickly crept onto her icy face, like a child caught red-handed while sneaking around.

Then, in a flash, the mage transformed into a beam of white light and retreated back into her card.

You Xuan: "..."

Now he was certain.

His spirit had indeed been playing dead.

Why? Did he not look trustworthy enough?

You Xuan glanced at his reflection in the mirror for two seconds. His handsome face immediately dispelled that thought.

Absolutely impossible.

So what if… maybe this spirit was just socially awkward?

They always said the bond between a duelist and their cards was the key to victory. Encountering a spirit was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and You Xuan felt he needed to seize it. He returned to the table.

"Yo? Are you there?"

Silence: "..."

"I should mention, I already know you're here."

Silence: "..."

You Xuan was at a loss.

All the legendary duelists in the anime talked about how bonds were crucial to winning, but no one ever explained how to build those bonds.

This wasn't Pokémon—he couldn't feed her or train her… and the real issue was that she never came out of the card in the first place. What was he supposed to do?

After some thought, he tentatively asked, "How about… we try another song?"

Silence: "!"

A faint ripple spread across the surface of the card.

Seconds later, the Silent Magician appeared again, holding her staff with both hands, her head lowered and her expression peculiar as she floated silently.

She still didn't say a word, but her actions spoke volumes.

As long as he didn't make her speak, everything else was negotiable.
