Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: The Well-Behaved Miss Lux

Ryuji was suddenly in a much better mood.

Because this proved one very important thing —

He wasn't the one with bad luck.

It was just that Kiri's luck was absolutely insane.

This woman... was clearly blessed by Lady Luck herself. Her background and life might not have been anything lucky, but right now, among everyone present, she was hands-down the luckiest.

"How depressing… I actually lost to a human when it comes to luck."

Rias was visibly surprised. She stared at Kiri with disbelief in her eyes.

She had always thought herself to be among the luckiest of demons. Yet even she couldn't compare to this woman.

"What a pity."

Rias sighed quietly in her heart.

It was a real shame that someone like Kiri couldn't become a member of her peerage. Luck that defied the rules like this could bring an endless stream of treasures and good fortune.

As for superstition?

She was a devil—what did she care about superstition?

"To possess luck that rivals the Gremory Family… Kiri, you must have been someone important in your world, right?"

Rias couldn't hold back her curiosity. Someone with such ridiculous fortune couldn't possibly be a nobody in their original world.

But Kiri's answer genuinely surprised her.

"Of course not. I'm just a nobody—someone who wouldn't even stand out in a crowd. Anyway, enough talk, let's finish the mission!"

Kiri laughed it off, brushing aside the question. The four of them quickly regrouped and got back to their tasks.

Thanks to their speed, they completed all eight missions in under an hour. After that, they returned to their construction efforts.

Even without Tsunade, Rias was still capable of short bursts of flight, enough to help with the steel structure they were building.

Kiri, meanwhile, went off to set up simple defensive measures to protect their relatively vulnerable front gate.

And as for Ryuji —he began mining with Lux.

The mining work was monotonous and exhausting, but Kiri had built a new forging furnace, which let them immediately process the ores into useful materials. He also had a new crafting station blueprint, which allowed them to forge steel bars into even sturdier components.

While feeding materials into the furnace, he happened to glance over at Lux, her body covered in dust, and a stray thought crossed his mind.

"We're almost ready to leave…"

He looked at her. Even though he tried not to let his gaze linger on her body, Lux still visibly shivered when she noticed him looking.

But it wasn't his gaze that made her tremble—it was her own thoughts.

Because of what Rias had said earlier, Lux had deliberately chosen not to invest any skill points into the in-game system of 7 Days to Die. That meant all the work she was doing relied solely on her real physical strength.

So far, Ryuji had made multiple trips back and forth, and yet this was the first time he'd caught a glimpse of Lux. That alone showed how hard she was struggling.

Right now, she was already close to exhaustion. She had only come to the furnace area because she was planning to take a short break.

But seeing Ryuji still working with full energy—his shirt only slightly damp with sweat—made her wonder something.

Something very real.

Just… how many times can Ryuji do it in one night?

It wasn't a question she had ever considered before, but clearly, now she had to.

Her voice trembled slightly as she stammered out the question.

"Mr. Ryuji … Your body, it's fine, right? You work out a lot, don't you?"

Her bashful tone and flustered expression were undeniably adorable. And Ryuji instantly realized why she was trembling.

"Huh? Oh, well… not to brag, but this kind of work doesn't really wear me out."

He tried to keep his tone as casual and non-suggestive as possible.

"As for working out… it's been a while since I did it regularly. But honestly, the way we've been living lately, I've gotten into pretty decent shape."

That part, he was confident about.

He had been forced to cut weight and exercise every day just to survive in this world. He hadn't quite reached six-pack territory yet, but the belly fat was almost gone.

If he kept this up, he'd probably have full abs soon.

"I-I see…"

Lux's face turned an even deeper shade of red.

And just as the conversation started to lapse into awkward silence, the roar of a motorcycle engine echoed from the distance. Not long after, Kiri appeared in front of them—wearing a leather jacket and jeans, her sunglasses gleaming.

"Hey, Ryuji. That pond next to the gas station was packed full of zombies before, so I'm not drinking from it. Come on, we're going to fetch some water. Lux, I need you to keep an eye on Rias while she's flying around."

Since Rias had to fly sometimes to finish construction on their steel fortress, someone needed to keep watch for danger.

Lux didn't hesitate.

"Of course, Miss Kiri."

She gave a sweet, obedient reply and trotted upstairs without question.

Once she was gone, Kiri turned back to Ryuji with a grin, pulling off her sunglasses with a flick and using them to lift his chin.

"Come on, pretty boy—give this lady a smile."

He had a pretty good idea of what she was planning next.
