Chapter 22 - Ch022 - Potential of Marvel

Kal started with May, who gave him a shy smile as she accepted the tall elf's hand on her forehead. Peter looked on suspiciously. He had long suspected that Kal and May were more than just acquaintances. But May had vehemently denied that they were in a romantic relationship, and Peter felt that she did speak the truth. For a teenager like Peter, learning that his mother figure had a casual sexual relationship with an elf wouldn't have been any better in the first place.

The lightforged elf had learned from his past mistakes and ordered the people to ignore the text appearing in their vision as a normal 'upgrade' and tell him what they learned from it when he was finished.

May accepted the power and gained a few inches as her clothes stretched a little against her now more toned body. The transformation took several minutes while Kal tried to overload the woman with some Restoration healing spells. Her face lost a few years as the woman turned prettier than she already was.

"Hmm, it says Holy and Mistweaver, and I'm level 16?" May unsurely inquired with a look to Kal. He gave her a reassuring nod and said, "A healer then. I knew you had it in you."

As Ava, Skye, and Darcy pulled her aside to explain the power Spiderman's aunt gained some more, Miles stepped forward next as he eagerly presented his head to Kal.

"I'm ready!"

No changes were apparent - mostly because Miles was in a full-body suit, mask and all, and the teenage spider-hero was already plenty muscular.

"Sweet! I can turn invisible-invisible now? I always felt like my natural ability had so much potential for more!" Miles excitedly exclaimed, but Kal followed his every movement with an unimpressed stare. So the boy sheepishly reappeared and added, "Says Subtlety, Survival, Combat, and Windwalker. Level 48."

Peter was next after May pushed him forward. The joke on his lips died when he saw the impatient smile on Kal's face.

After the transformation that was equally as unimpressive as Miles' transformation, Peter curtly explained, "Subtlety, Windwalker, Feral, and Arcane. Level 49."

"Four classes again?" Kal mumbled in Thalassian. The OG Spiderman had a truly intriguing 'build'. It felt much more diverse than the melee classes Miles was given.

Gwen was next, and she stepped past her boyfriend eagerly after she saw May try out a healing spell. She had always looked on enviously whenever Kal healed people so casually, Gwen yearned for that power.

Different from the two before her, Gwen was the only one who had physical changes happen to her from the group of Spider-people. Her bust filled out a little more to the embarrassment of the heroine herself.

"Um, Assassination, Subtlety, Restoration, Elemental. Level 54," Gwen shyly revealed. She was a bit apprehensive about revealing that she had a profile called 'assassination' of all things. She had never killed anyone before.

"No worries. Assassination rogues deal with poisons and bleeds. Poisons are not just used to kill. They can create all manner of changes in a body, even benevolent ones. And who better to patch up a bleed than someone who knows how to inflict the worst kinds," Kal consoled with a wink. "Now go conjure some lightning and pretend you're Thor. I know you want to."

Natasha and Clint looked incredulously as the already powerful spider-themed heroes gained supernatural powers merely through Kal placing his hands on their heads. Natasha, who long wanted to retire after Kal made her 'whole' with an excruciatingly painful Lay on Hands that she 'earned' for teaching hand-to-hand combat to Peter, Miles, and Gwen - which she would have done for a lot less - found herself wanting to become more powerful to protect the things she came to love.

With a brief look to Clint, she decisively walked forward and presented her head to the elf.

'Paladin?' Kal thought in surprise. Well, maybe the path of a retribution paladin was in her blood after she spilled so much of it. Natasha's transformation was once again not very pronounced. The already muscular and beautiful agent merely shaved off a little weariness from her gorgeous face that made her look a few years younger.

Choosing to trust Kal with this information instead of keeping it a secret like her spy training and all her life experiences told her, Natasha revealed in a quiet voice, "Assassination, Subtlety, Holy. Level 38."

Apparently, her wish to help people in a similar position to her overpowered her urge to get revenge - hence the holy paladin specialization as opposed to the retribution one.

"I'm a little shy," Clint quipped before he gave the elf a hard look. "And it comes at no cost?"

"It does. I know how much you loathe mind control given your experiences, I'd never joke about it," Kal answered with a reassuring nod.

"There goes nothing, I guess," Clint agreed with a sigh and walked past Natasha as the last of the group.

Clint lost quite a few years from his weary visage. Being a 'simple' archer in a team of gods and monsters had taken its toll on the bowman these past few years.

"Marksmanship, Survival, Assassination," Clint revealed once his transformation was over. "Level 40."

He gained a cocky smirk and waltzed over to Natasha with a swagger, clearly happy that he had a higher initial level than the woman who was his sister in all but blood.

"Okay, with that over... we're just in time, I guess," Kal remarked and looked toward the statue that was suddenly bathed in cold, green flames. The elf recognised this fire instantly from his many long conversations with Prophet Velen and mumbled under his breath, "Argus..."

He whistled into his fingers loudly and turned to everyone present as he spoke, "I will not begrudge anyone who does not follow me. For two days, if you choose to trust the words of the Sorcerer Supreme, you will fight battles that are not yet entirely your own. I recognize these flames. They belong to the homeworld of the Eredar. A race much more powerful than Earth's humanity. And they lost their world to the Burning Legion millenia ago. Going there is dangerous and I cannot promise you that I will be able to protect all of you. Argus is now home to many powerful demons."

"I'll go," Pietro immediately answered with a careless smile. "Sounds like fun. Fighting these imps and satyrs is getting kind of boring."

"I'll go if he goes," Wanda agreed with a roll of her eyes as she regarded her brother.

"The legion is a threat to our world, too. No? I'll do anything to reduce it," Natasha agreed, too. Clint looked reluctant but still took out his bow from his back as he said, "I can't leave her alone. She'll get lost. Who knows? Maybe I'm getting a bow as cool as Kal's out of it."

"Ah, that reminds me," Kal muttered and summoned Thori'dal. Using his one chance to duplicate an item, the elf used it on the legendary Star's Fury weapon and watched as a second one slowly formed in his hands.

Ava, Skye, and Darcy had decided that they would follow Kal anywhere even before he granted powers to those who didn't have them yet. And then there were only Peter, Miles, Gwen, and May left.

"Guys... I think we should go," Peter almost reluctantly revealed.

"Peter," May whispered with a complicated expression.

"You're thinking that since we can do what we do... it falls upon us to protect those who can't, right?" Gwen asked as she put a reassuring hand on Peter's back.

"With great power comes great danger," Miles confidently stated before he deflated a little and added, "and even greater responsibility," in a low voice.

"Like I said, I will not force you. You're going to have to kill demons to stay alive. You're going to have to fight desperately to keep yourself and the others safe," Kal reassured as he unequipped the original Thori'dal and drew the bowstring of the copy.

Different from what happened with Mjolnir, Thori'dal's copy actually did manage to construct a mana arrow because that ability came from its materials, not an enchantment. But the arrow still felt remarkably weaker than the one constructed by the original. The bow was probably crafted in a unique way that wasn't completely copied even with the Reality Stone.

"Here, catch. Don't lose it," Kal quipped jovially as he threw the copy over to Barton. Hawkeye was one of the only humans on Earth that would ever be worthy of owning such a bow. The elf just hoped he wouldn't need the ability to duplicate an item on Argus later on.

...if that ability even worked on Argus. The Infinity Stones rather famously only worked in their source reality after all.

"Alright. Pietro. Could you do one last food run just to be on the safe side? Can't rely solely on Wanda for two days. What if she needs to rest?"

The speedster gave him a nod and reappeared half a minute later with four plastic bags filled with nothing but flatbread and cheese. Kal gave the man an exasperated sigh and put the food away in the bag slung over his shoulder after dividing it with Ava and Skye, who similarly had big leather bags with them.

"Good. Any last pee breaks? Might be your last chance in quite a while," Kal quipped before he walked toward the statue.

Instinctively understanding what he needed to do, Kal reached out to the flame-bathed statue and touched it at the same moment that his owl Whitewing landed on his shoulder. Immediately, Kal's vision turned blurry as he was whisked away and put into a beam of light that resembled travel by Bifrost.

Back on Earth, everyone present saw Kal suddenly burst into green flames and disappear in the next moment. With an eager grin, Pietro was the first to copy the elf, and he, too, disappeared in flames.

Next to go were Wanda, Skye, Ava, and Darcy.

"You could stay. Think about your kids," Natasha said as she walked toward the statue while looking at Clint.

"You're family too," Clint reluctantly countered as he drew the bowstring of the copied Thori'dal and gently released it while grinning like a little kid for a short moment.

Both S.H.I.E.L.D. agents disappeared next, leaving only the spider-people behind.

"I'm going," Miles decided and ran forward. "I'll just take getting grounded for a year for disappearing from the face of the earth for two days."

"Same," Gwen agreed with a giggle as she walked forward. She turned back and asked, "Aunt May? Pete?"

"I will go if you go," May firmly stated as she gave Peter a flat stare. She also had her phone out and texted a few people.

"I really want to go," Peter shyly revealed, so May gently took his hand and walked him over to the statue. With a reassuring smile, May packed away her phone and softly spoke, "Let's be heroes together."

And just like that, everyone the Ancient One had assembled for Kal had left London - no Earth and its dimension entirely.

The Ancient One curiously looked on as they all disappeared. The green flames bathing the statue flickered out as the last one left.

"Should I have joined them?" She mumbled with a playful tinge in her voice. She gently shook her head and continued, "If only it were that easy..."

With a small smile, the Ancient One curiously watched a flying car land close to the statue. Five people got out of it, who would soon have their very own origin story.

"The reading disappeared, Reed. I'm telling you we should keep looking," a rather handsome man argued defiantly as he exited the car second.

The man who got out first didn't look up from the device in his hand as he countered, "And you don't want to find out why it disappeared, Victor?"

A beautiful blonde walked out next as she sighed, "You two are insufferable. Just reach out to Doctor Selvig if you want a tie-breaker... he's the one who informed you in the first place, Reed..."
