Chapter 28 - EPISODE 28{THE ANNOUNCEMENT}

The entire school stood still.

It was Friday. Assembly day. But not just any assembly — this was the one where everything changed.

The banners were up. The microphone was crackling. And all eyes were on the podium.

The principal stepped forward, a golden envelope in his hand — the same one we had seen days before.

You could hear hearts beating. Whispers filled the crowd.

Tope stood beside me, calm but silent. I, on the other hand, was trying to keep from shaking.

"These past weeks," the principal began, "have shown us not just intelligence, but integrity. Not just scores, but stories of growth."

He opened the envelope slowly, dramatically.

"The junior class winner…" he paused, "…is Blessing Adebayo!"

Applause burst out. A small girl ran up, her face glowing with joy.

I swallowed hard. My heart pounded faster.

"And now," the principal said, "the senior class winner — the one who stood out not only academically, but through consistent personal growth…"

He looked up from the card. "Is someone we never expected."

The crowd leaned in.

"Adewale Johnson."

I froze.

Wait.

What?

Tope grabbed my arm. "That's you!"

My legs felt like jelly as students clapped and cheered. Some were shocked. Some smiled. A few just stood in disbelief.

I slowly walked up, step by step, heart thudding.

When I got to the podium, the principal smiled.

"You earned this," he said.

And in that moment, everything felt worth it — the struggles, the late nights, the breakdowns, the breakthroughs.

I looked into the crowd and saw Tope, clapping proudly.

And I smiled.

Because this wasn't just a prize.

It was proof.

That change is real.

And anyone — anyone — can rise.
