Chapter 44: Capturing the Giant Dragonite (5)

Just after buying the Master Ball, Brock exited his mindscape. He then felt his pocket and found a Poké Ball there. Brock took it out and looked; sure enough, it was the Master Ball.

Brock looked at the Master Ball in his hand and thought, So this is a Master Ball! It doesn't look particularly special! Though the color is different. I hear Master Balls have a 100% capture rate for Pokémon. I wonder if that's really true. When I have time someday, I should test it out.

After finishing his thought, Brock held up the Master Ball and shouted to the giant Dragonite, "Dragonite! Bell said I need to use a Master Ball to capture you, and only then can you enter the system! I'm going to throw the Master Ball now! Just let it capture you! That way, you can enter the system!"

After speaking, Brock threw the Master Ball in his hand towards the giant Dragonite. Hearing Brock's words, the giant Dragonite let out a roar. Then, Dragonite's voice sounded in Brock's mind, "Okay! You throw the Master Ball—!" Before Dragonite could finish its sentence, the Master Ball struck it. Just like that, the giant Dragonite was captured.

After capturing the giant Dragonite, the Master Ball immediately flew back to Brock's side, then instantly entered Brock's system. Seeing this, Brock was stunned. Then, looking utterly clueless, he exclaimed, "What the heck?! I captured the giant Dragonite... Why did both the Master Ball and the giant Dragonite disappear?!"

So, wanting to understand what happened, Brock entered the system within his mindscape. He saw Bell standing there, as if waiting for someone. Brock walked over and asked in a reproachful tone, "Bell! Why did the Master Ball and the giant Dragonite disappear?! What's going on?"

Hearing Brock, Bell replied, "Host Brock, the Master Ball brought the giant Dragonite back into the system. If you want to find it, it's in the Storage."

Hearing Bell, Brock asked doubtfully, "Bell, didn't I capture that giant Dragonite? I didn't agree for it to enter the system; how did it enter the system by itself?"

Hearing Brock, Bell explained, "Host Brock, it's like this. Because the giant Dragonite's strength is greater than yours, you cannot control it, and it cannot help you battle effectively. Therefore, the system helped you by storing the Master Ball and Dragonite. That's why the situation you just saw occurred."

After hearing Bell's explanation, Brock asked again, "Bell, then is there a way to have Dragonite help me battle? And have it listen to my commands during battle?" After speaking, Brock thought, If the giant Dragonite could help me battle, that would be so awesome! Just imagine, the giant Dragonite appears and instantly scares the opponent stiff! Besides, the giant Dragonite's strength is immense!

Hearing Brock's question, Bell replied, "Brock, if you want the giant Dragonite to help you, it's possible. It just costs 1000 points per day. That guarantees it will be obedient; if you tell it to go east, it won't dare go west."

Hearing Bell, Brock exclaimed, "Bell, what's going on?! Didn't I capture the giant Dragonite?! Why do I have to pay points just to have it help me battle? And the points cost is so expensive!"

Hearing Brock, Bell gave a reply that shut Brock up, "Host Brock, if you find it expensive, you can simply choose not to have the giant Dragonite battle! Also, if you insist on having the giant Dragonite help you battle, you can choose not to pay the points... but whether it will obey you or not, that's something I cannot guarantee."

Hearing Bell's words, Brock lowered his head. Just then, he thought, If there's no guarantee it'll obey, who would dare send it out to battle?! If it attacked me instead, even if I didn't die, I'd probably end up lying in a hospital for several months! Sigh! Can't use the giant Dragonite to show off then.

Having thought things through, Brock exited his mindscape. He found himself standing at the cliff's edge. By now, the sky was very dark. Brock couldn't see his hand in front of his face. He could only slowly make his way towards the lighthouse.

By this time, Brock had returned to the lighthouse. He found Melanie sitting alone on the sofa. Brock walked over and asked, "Melanie, you're not asleep yet? It's already very late."

Hearing Brock's voice, Melanie immediately looked up and saw Brock standing right in front of her. She stood up from the sofa and replied, "Brock, you're back! I saw you hadn't returned yet, and I was worried about you... couldn't sleep. Now that you're back, I can rest assured. I'm going to sleep now. Bye-bye!" After speaking, Melanie shyly ran back to her room to sleep.

Hearing Melanie's reply, Brock was stunned. He hadn't expected Melanie to have feelings for him. He rubbed his nose with his hand and thought, I'm sorry, Melanie! I don't want to think about having a girlfriend right now, because I still haven't found the culprit who wants to harm me... Sigh! Melanie's words... I'll just take them as the concern of a friend! Having thought this through, Brock also returned to his room to sleep.

The next day, after Brock and the group finished breakfast, they were about to set off traveling towards Vermilion City. Just as they were leaving the lighthouse, a middle-aged man came out behind them – it was Dr. Bill.

Seeing Dr. Bill also leaving the lighthouse, Brock asked in a friendly manner, "Dr. Bill, where are you heading?"

Hearing Brock, Dr. Bill looked at him and replied, "I need to go to Vermilion City to take care of some business. Can we travel together?"

Before Brock could answer, Ash, standing nearby, readily agreed, "Dr. Bill, sure! The more, the merrier!"

And so, Brock, Ash, Misty, Melanie, Daisy, and Dr. Bill – three males, three females, plus two Pokémon (Pikachu and Meowth) – headed off together towards Vermilion City.

Brock's group traveled onward, getting lost multiple times along the way, but they finally arrived in Vermilion City. Upon reaching Vermilion City, Dr. Bill, who was beside them, bid them farewell, "Brock, Ash, Misty, Daisy, Melanie, now that we're in Vermilion City, I have business to attend to. Let's part ways here! Goodbye!" After speaking, Dr. Bill headed off in one direction.

Seeing Dr. Bill walk away, Brock and the others also headed towards the Pokémon Center. After a short while, Brock's group reached the entrance of the Pokémon Center. Walking inside, they saw a Nurse Joy in her nurse uniform, sitting working at the front desk.

Brock's group walked over, handed all their Pokémon to Nurse Joy, and said, "Nurse Joy, please help us treat our Pokémon! We're counting on you!"

Hearing Brock, Nurse Joy took their Pokémon for treatment. She then returned and asked Brock's group, "Is there any other help you require?"

Hearing Nurse Joy, Brock took out his Pokédex from his person and said to Nurse Joy, "Nurse Joy, could you please trouble yourself to get us two rooms?"
