Shit...What do they do?
Do they tell the teachers they saw... well, whatever the hell that was last night?
Doyun quickly motioned to Yejun, mouthing a clear "No. Don't tell anyone."
Damn. How did he even know what Yejun was thinking? Freaky ass guy. The food appeared soon after, but no one even looked at it. The dining hall was quieter than a grave, filled with nervous whispers instead of the usual rowdy chaos. Somewhere across the room, someone was crying. So was a girl at their table. Everyone looked freaked out especially the younger kids, while the older ones just sat there, pale and silent like they were in shock. From the other end of the room, Damian, of course it was Damian. He stood up and walked to the director, asking something Yejun couldn't hear. Not that it mattered, his brain was fried.
So that was really a corpse...?
He scanned the Normal Magic table in a panic.
Okay. Good. His friends were all there. Nari, too. Thank god.
They should've killed Doyun instead, Yejun thought bitterly. Whoever that poor victim was... damn. Lunch ended in that same eerie silence. Defense Against the Dark Arts was next.
When Yejun walked into class, he spotted Nari already seated in the back.
"Hey, Nari."
"Oh… hey, Yejun."
Her voice was weirdly hesitant, like she wanted to say something but couldn't.
Ms. E was out today for some reason, so they had a sub who was straight up knocked out at the desk with an eye mask on. No joke. So no real lesson, and the class slowly descended into chaos. In the middle of the mess, Nari scribbled something on a blank sheet of paper, crumpled it up, and slid it over to Yejun.
"...Take it. Kinda weird, especially since the class was loud enough that she could've just said whatever, but whatever. Yejun took the note and opened it.
The handwriting was messy, rushed.
"Yejun, you didn't go to the fifth floor, did you? Be honest."
Shit. Of course she'd ask.
He ripped out a page from his notebook and replied: "No, why would I? When she read it, Nari raised an eyebrow.
Now she was whispering instead. "You sure?"
Yejun whispered back, "Of course not? Why, do you not trust me?"
Nari blinked. "What—no, I do trust you, it's just-"
"Exactly. If you trust me, why would you think I'm lying? Hm, Nari?"
Lying again. Should he feel bad? Meh.
"Yejun, I'm just asking," she sighed, voice still hushed.
"I didn't," he said calmly, flashing a smile. It wasn't meant to be sarcastic... but yeah, he probably looked fake. Even if the smile was real..well not really.
He went back to pretending to take notes. But he could feel her eyes still on him, like she was analyzing every damn move he made. Meanwhile, the class got louder by the second. The sub was still knocked out, deadass snoring with his mask on. He'd open his eyes every now and then, look around, and just go back to sleep like, "Not my class, not my problem." Nari sighed again and tossed something at him.
"Yejun, can you just give me a real answer?" Yejun looked up from his book, giving his best clueless face. "What? I already said I didn't go there. What more do you want?"
"Fine… whatever, I guess."
The bell rang.
"Bye, Nari!" Yejun grinned.
She nodded back, clearly still not convinced, but letting it go.
The rest of the day blurred by. Yejun didn't even realize how much time passed until he found himself back in hell, aka detention.
And of course, he was stuck sitting next to him.
Doyun. They kept side eyeing each other, like they were waiting for one of them to say something.
Finally, Doyun broke the silence. "Alright. Get your ass up. We're going to the fifth floor again."
Yejun immediately chucked a book at him. "Are you stupid? Did you forget what happened yesterday?"
Doyun just shrugged. "Listen, it's obvious we both don't care. You don't even know who got killed."
He stood up, smirking like this was a damn game.
"Am I right?"
