Chapter 9 - A gift to the Elf's

After leaving the Kingsman Bakery, Damian didn't head home — he went to the bakery.

As soon as he arrived, he unlocked the closed bakery door. Seeing him, Carolla spoke up.

"Are you planning to open for business today?"

Damian shook his head.

"No, I'm not opening today. But I do need to bake."

Damian opened the door and stepped inside. Naturally, Carolla followed.

Once inside, Damian took off his suit jacket and tied a white apron around his waist. Then he put on a white chef's hat, finishing his preparations to bake.

Carolla also took off her jacket and did the same — apron and chef's hat.

"If you're not baking for business, then you must be baking for someone… So, Damian, who's it for?"

"Let's start baking first. I'll tell you once we're done. Also… I won't be making any bread with meat in it. And I'll avoid greasy types too. I'll tell you exactly what kinds of bread we need. Let's work together."

"Wait! Bread without meat, and not greasy either… and we need to put a lot of care into it... Hmm. I think I get the picture."

Carolla smirked knowingly and looked at Damian.

Damian returned the smile and replied.

"If you've figured it out, then I guess there's no need to explain later. Yes — the reason I excluded meat and greasy ingredients is because these are gift breads for elves. Elves tend to avoid meat and oily foods.

Do you remember the Taurus Forest, the one that used to be ruled by that Black Dragon, Kaideman?"

"There's a tribe of agricultural elves there skilled in growing rice and wheat. The Taurus Tribe. The breads we're making are gifts for them. That's why we have to be especially careful and put in our best effort."

Carolla's eyes widened in surprise.

"I figured from the ingredients that it might be a gift for elves, but I didn't expect it to be for the Taurus Tribe.

That tribe isn't just good at farming — they're also highly skilled in combat and magic. And they don't easily accept outsiders. Even for us, approaching them without some sort of personal connection would be dangerous. Unless you're on good terms with them, getting close would be tough."

"That's why I can go. You know who got rid of that Black Dragon Kaideman, don't you?"

At Damian's words, Carolla clapped her hands and grinned.

"Right — you're the one who killed Kaideman, Damian."

"Yeah. That bastard was disgusting. Completely ruled by lust. And not just any lust — the vile kind. He kidnapped every beautiful woman he came across — human, elf, mermaid, even visiting angels and demons — and locked them in his lair for his own amusement.

If I had been even a little late, every one of those women would've lost their purity to that filthy lizard.

Though honestly, I didn't take him down out of justice or anything. He kept messing with my wheat farm, and I just got pissed off. But in the end, I did get rid of him and save all those women.

One of the women I saved was an elf who was engaged to the chief of the Taurus Tribe. They're married now. I even attended their wedding last year. I was probably the only human guest."

"So basically, you've got a solid connection with the Taurus Tribe."

Damian nodded.

"I'm sworn brothers with their chief. Now let's hurry and make these gift breads. These aren't just any breads. If we don't give it our all, it'll be a problem. Got it?"

"Yeah. I got it."

Hearing Damian's determination, Carolla resolved to put in her full effort too.

The Next Morning – Sunday

Damian and Carolla had worked through the night until dawn, pouring their hearts into making the breads and cakes. While they always gave their best, this time they were on a whole different level.

They didn't even go home. They fell asleep on chairs inside the bakery and woke up early the next morning.

After tidying up all the baked goods, they splashed some water on their faces to freshen up. Damian neatly combed his long, tousled blonde hair, while Carolla applied makeup to her face and the large horns to add some shine and flair.

Once dressed back in their black suits, they packed up the gift breads and cakes, and prepared for their trip. They activated teleportation magic to head straight to the Taurus Forest.

Fwoooosh—!

Their bodies glowed white and disappeared into thin air.

Whoosh!

Damian and Carolla reappeared in the midst of a dense forest filled with towering trees — the Taurus Forest. It was located at the far northern edge of the Brushel Empire and had once been ruled by the ferocious Black Dragon Kaideman.

From the capital city of Lunemire, where Damian and Carolla lived, it would've taken at least ten days by carriage or horseback. Without teleportation, it would've been a long and tiring journey. But for these two, masters of magic, teleportation was a simple task.

Now that they had arrived safely, they carefully began walking through the forest, making sure not to damage their precious breads and cakes.

As they walked, Carolla suddenly turned to Damian, a thought striking her.

"Hey, Damian. These breads we made… they're not just gifts, are they? If they were, we wouldn't have gone all-out like this, right?"

Damian gave a small nod.

"You're right. These breads are far from ordinary gifts. You'll find out soon enough what I plan to do with them."
