[ Chapter XI (11): "FOR THE CHILDREN!" ]
[ "H-help...!" ]
[ "Protect the children!" ]
[ "Damn it, pigs!" ]
In the nearest school, wherein at the very least a dozen survivors occupy. They could be seen having problems with an infestation of Goblins— which had gotten past their rudimentary makeshift defenses.
The survivors, or those able to fight could be seen holding wood in their hand, sharpening as best as they could to pierce the toughened skin of the Goblins, or other monsters that prey on them. All of that and more, which is not enough as evident to them being overwhelmed by a handful of Goblins.
A handful of nasty, dangerous, and highly skilled green gremlin monsters that systematically prey on the survivors; waiting for the right moment as they fight via guerilla-like tactics.
[ "Get the kids to safety!" ]
The leader of the group of survivors noticing the way the Goblins are watching them, with viciousness ready to strike, alerted the other survivors to protect the cowering children who are watching the action unfold.
[ "D-dad, a-are we gonna be alright...?" ]
[ "Baby, don't worry, everything's gonna be alright." ]
He assured his daughter, who's looking up at him with shaky hands— merely but an eight year old that should be enjoying life, playing on the playground, learning to socialize; but is now condemned to survive in the Apocalypse because some monsters decided to murder left-and-right.
Phineas couldn't help but be mad at the world, on the government, on others and especially on himself. Everyone was unprepared for the worst case scenario, and now the worst case scenario hit. And the world is crippled due to it.
The only thing he, and the survivors could do is hold on; hoping for a miracle to hit, and give them salvation through the mess they found themselves in.
[ "P-promise, dad...?" ]
[ "I-I promise, baby, daddy promise..." ]
He held out his pinky finger to shake his daughter's pinky finger, hoping to whoever deity there is on above that this may not be the last. [ "Now, go." ]
[ "Angela, you get the children to safety." ]
[ "Don't ever come out whatever happens. You hear me." ]
[ "Y-yes." ]
He ordered for the oldest of the children, a twelve year old girl to guide the others. She did what she was told, with others watching the children get into safety; the only fortified room that the small elementary school has— a shelter with food in it, drinking water, and manual for both man-made and naturally occurring disasters.
Sure, the manual didn't account for Goblin infestation, or fantasy-like monsters popping out from nowhere and murdering all of civilization, yeah. But at the very least through it, some of the students, and some of the parents, even including a few teachers, could live for a week in the Apocalypse.
Without it they would have died... Just like the rest of the population that have already succumbed.
[ "P-phineas they're on the move!" ]
[ "Damn it...!" ]
[ "Everyone, prepare your spears! D-don't back down, we're all gonna die here today... T-the supplies aren't enough to sustain us all for a m-month anyways, so please, l-leave it to the children and die here!" ]
He made a confession, no, a declaration that all of the other survivors knew. And in resentment, they accepted it. Knowing that this is the best play that they have. Even to those that don't have any relatives, or children amongst the students currently hiding; they know that this is the best play.
And in finally accepting that, they swallowed their saliva and prepared themselves for the horde of Goblins past the makeshift wall they made to protect themselves.
[ "For the children!" ]
They don't know who said that. But at that moment, that became their chant. Shouting it to the ugly-looking Goblins that doesn't seem to waver at the slightest, even if some of them already died either by the spears, by infighting, or even by other monsters. They didn't care, and instead charged, all of them totaling to about a hundred plus.
[ — iikkkiikiii!! ]
[ — ikkkkikiii! ]
[ — kikiiiikkkiii!!! ]
The ugly Goblins systematically move ever forward, though savage, though somewhat organized and unorganized in some parts. To the humans who's watching, they didn't care about how organized or unorganized the enemies are, they just know that whenever one gets close, they need to pierce them.
And then pray that the Goblin is dead, if not, then... A fate which can be considered as worse than death would befall them, some have known that, and a few some hours ago have experienced that also.
And soon it'll gonna be them. They just hope that on the way, they'll be able to take on a few; enough for the other survivors— the children, and some of the elderly with them to be safe.
[ "BRING IT ON!" ]
The Goblins attacked on the front, savagely with a grin adoring their ugly faces. Phineas and the others having already prepared for this, pierced them as strongly as they could.
But fatigue, stress, and hunger had their way in interrupting, and instead they weren't able to exert that much force. Thankfully, they did gain experience throughout the week in the Apocalypse, and that was enough to give him an advantage towards the Goblins.
[ "Aim for the head!" ]
The head of the Goblin is the hardest, which is why it is so important. With the spears that they have, it is enough to pierce it; and everyone who had first-hand experience in killing a Goblin, they knew this and did it.
Some though missed, accidentally letting the Goblins get a lick. As they get stabbed in the hand, wrist, and even finger. Thankfully none being killed from the first wave of Goblins.
[ "H-hold on the wave!" ]
[ "F-for the children...!" ]
They did whatever they could. Phineas, Thomas, Ferb, Bianca and to everyone who held on in the Apocalypse did. But that wasn't enough, as slowly the defense they made starts to crumble. And the demoralization of the situation gets into them. Causing some to lose strength.
[ "Damn it...!" ]
Phineas grunts to himself, as the most experienced of them all, he held on. Trying to not be demoralized as much, as he knows it'll gonna be the end of him and the others if he gets demoralized more than he already is— and worse of it all, the possibility of his daughter being hunted down after his death... It fuels him.
As he with all his might threw the spear he is holding, skewering two Goblin on impact, before finally he grabbed another spear.
[ "Again!" ]
He pierced the spear on the side and killed another, then another, then another. Before ultimately he felt his strength weakening, his wrist hurting the more he did. But he endured.
For the children... And for her daughter.
He prayed in his heart, a catholic song he heard once, though not heavily religious— it does bring comfort to him whenever he faces a crisis; just like now.
Ready to fight, and ready to die against this Goblins; Phineas gave it his all. [ "IS-is THAT ALL YOU GOT!!" ]
Shouting at the crowd of Goblins, he mirrored their manical grin and watched the crowd of Goblin ranging in the hundreds falter in their bravado in seeing him. Before ultimately putting up the front again, charging at the group with less cooperation this time.
[ "P-phineas what's that...?!!" ]
[ "What's, what?!!" ]
[ "T-that!" ]
He looks at the direction where his friend is pointing at, and noticed a savage looking Goblin. Taller than average, about thrice the size of a normal Goblin looking at them hungrily. Not just tall, but also fatter compared to all the Goblins they have seen before.
And in looking at it, did Phineas realize the reason why his friend is panicking. That may be, or may not be the leader of the group— a variant of the Goblin race. This being the first time they have seen it before.
And if his theory is right, may also be the last, as they'll die if that thing attacks them. [ "Hold still, don't worry about that thing!" ] They tried to ignore the fat blob, and instead focused their attention to the group of Goblin swarming at them.
Trying their best to ignore the weird gaze being given to them by the supposed leader Goblin variant. With it licking its teeth— the said variant also being covered in blood... And also with what appears to be...
[ "Goblin blood?" ]
Phineas who's experienced enough to distinguish what's Goblin blood from human blood, and also what's monster blood could notice that the said monster is covered in Goblin's blood from head-to-toe, which seems weird enough. Because he had never seen a Goblin eat its own kin before, perhaps this being the first time.
This rang signals inside his head. May that be bad, worse than bad, or good, he doesn't know. But at the moment he focused on the other important matter, and that'll be killing as much Goblin as he could; [ "HOLD THE LINE!" ]
