Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Stay strong

Jessie woke up. She touched her head. There was a small wound and the bleeding had already stopped. She looked around and found herself in the garage. She stood up to her legs but the following explosion brought her back to the ground. Completely shocked she wasn't able to get up 'JOHN!' There was no way her voice was able to penetrate all the rubbles and there was another problem. The roof above Jessie cracked. Her fear of John not having made it was overpowered by the fear of her own death. She struggled to her legs and turned around, opening her bag. She took out a gun, even a dagger was in there and a torch. Next, she fastened the bag on her back and put on the torch. She started walking. Her eyes never remained stuck too long on one place. They were in constant movements, trying to find something out of the ordinary. Her ears caught a whimper and the next moment her eyes found the person from whom it had come. A mother and a child were hiding behind a car. The face of the mother had blood traces on it but it didn't seem to be her blood. Jessie approached them, asking': 'What are you'–'Sshhh!', the mother replied, putting a finger on her pale and partly ripped lips. Jessie immediately understood the message and closed the distance to the mother before repeating her question: 'What are you doing here?' It took the mother 2 min before she lastly calmed down. Her shudder was still there but a lot weaker. 'One of them is here!'

Nighyel emerged from the rubble. Her body was wrecked. She had barely survived. 'Dammn , John, hahaha! You were really something! But seems like', her arm that had penetrated John's chest was closed but there was something in that and when the woman opened the arm John's heart came to light. 'Don't worry not even death can do us apart!' And so she left the scene.

Jessie had checked through her inventory. She was right now hiding with the mother and her child behind the car. 'Ok mam. We need to leave this place! I don't know how long the roof will hold!' The mother hugged her daughter tighter and demanded: 'And where? Outside where these monsters are roaming the streets? Thanks, but no. We better try our luck here!' 'Mam, I don't know exactly what is outside there, but there I can tell you above our heads there is something much worse. And if she finds us we will definitely die!' (Jessie: Just like John?) She shook her head. (Jessie No he made it. Somehow!) 'I thank you, Officer Jessie, but we can't! The military will come. Someone will come. And it takes more to break this roof! I just have to believe it. Hope dies the last!' 'Still, it does die at the end!', Jessie replied and staggered the mother with it. The mother didn't say anything anymore and her child, her face was pale, damn pale and she was trembling and her green eyes had no light anymore and it seemed like her brown hairs were losing their color. Jessie put her hand on the child's head and child let Jessie do as she pleased. Jessie could feel the child's fear, her terror. 'What's your name, little one?' The child mumbled: 'Ka-ka-kat-l-li-l-ki-n!' 'I see, Katlin it is! What a beautiful name. Katlin you must stay strong now, ok? Strong enough to protect your mother! And you', Jessie turned to the mother and handed her a gun with some munitions. The mother at first only stared at them but she lastly accepted them. Her eyes seemed to say: 'I can't!' Jessie simply clasped the mother's hand. Jessie's arm was shuddering too. 'Mam, I will fight my way through to Behills Hospital. An old friend of mine told me that it could be safe there. A military base seems to be stationed there. If all that is true, I will tell them about you. That's why stay strong! Stay strong for yourself! Stay strong for your child!' Jessie didn't seem to notice herself, but her trembling had almost ceasing and as she went on her voice was even stronger: 'Stay strong and stay alive!' A flicker light went up in the mother's eyes. She looked to her daughter who was gazing back at her with wide eyes, looking for security and that child did found it which made her calm down. Her breath stabilized and some blood returned to her face. The mother turned back to Jessie. 'Thank you. I will fight and as long as I am alive no of theses bastards will even come near my daughter! Thank you for the gun and I wish you the best on your way to . You can make it and you will make it and now go!' Jessie nodded and set out.
