A year passes again.
Fan Lin looked at his rank 27 soul power on the display and sighed.
He was still a one ringed Soul Master and had been but continuously advanced his cultivation without taking on a new ring.
Thankfully, the academy had a perfect but flawed system of general assessment where the soul power of the students were used as a main category for their placement and that means that fortunately for him, he was still assigned to the class 1 of his new grade or grade 3 class 1 for those that had some difficulties...
With the loss of his memories related to the novel, he seem to have disregarded the common fact that even rank 40 Soul Ancestors rarely have the capability to absorb a ten thousand year old spirit soul and there he was!
A being with nothing special.
Planning to have a thousand year old spirit soul for his second spirit ring was already beyond his reach but he was trying to get a ten thousand year old spirit soul with just a year of physical training without any 'extra' potent food or nutrition.
He wasn't even doxxing himself, that would have also worked but nah, someone got too stubborn on trying it out himself now that he had a lot of time on his hands.
Hmph!
"Really? I just want to peacefully do things."
Then don't complain about it every other chapter.

His cultivation was progressing smoothly. So smooth that he had taken out a few months to delve into other things like Spirit Engineering, blacksmithing, carpentry and politics and for no apparent reason but to add more passive income
Fortunately, he failed in most of them, no talent, and just quit. Let's keep it that simple. The deats aren't important anymore. Not like I would let anyone know.
Things on the other side are... were, good to say. The gravity of the killings have become a thing of the past; After the perpetrators have been caught and dealt with, no-one pays any mind to it.
Fan Lin had went there once in his last holidays to decorate the house of the Tang Family (which was now officially his) and the people were pretty chill. New gangs and placements had already replaced the dead ones. Not much changed actually.
Till the time people exist, this will continue to happen.

Eastsea Academy
It had been two years since Fan Lin had arrived at the Eastsea Academy and a year since he found out that he possesses the Spiritual Power to harness a Black Ten Thousand Year Old Spirit Soul.
And there's was also the reveal that his body was normal. Truly a situation where a crippled was given a car... no way to effectively drive it.
He didn't lose hope those. Fan Lin had trained hard for a year to try to see if things change but it didn't.
His physical body that he was residing in has no actual potential to it. Add in his martial soul that doesn't provide any physical growth buff or effects, Fan Lin had a cap to the physical limits that he can break.
If he tried to bite more than he can chew, he will just destroy the body, or at least cripple it, impeding his cultivation.
So once he had realised that he had reached the bottleneck of his physique, he just switched to cultivation like everybody else.
Cultivation improved physique, don't even need to exercise, why bother with training then?
Cultivation was the safe route and with the Mysterious Heaven Method, he has no worries about waiting for years to get his ten thousand year old spirit soul.
He will patiently wait while whining about it everyday.

The teacher called for the next student and Fan Lin went to test his Soul Power. He was currently in the middle of his class sorting ceremony of the grade 3.

Fan Lin looked at his results on the soul power measurement device and internally sighed. He was nearing the rank 30 and running out of suitable excuses to give to his teachers who were all waiting for him to become a Rank 30 Soul Elder.
His new teachers, especially the one who will get him in their class were standing by the side, looking at his results while nodding their heads. Their thoughts unknown to them.
In their eyes, Fan Lin was a low effort good returns students that didn't need much impartment or focus and would still provide a really good repertoire of results in all the classes, even the combat one. He was statistically winning more than he had lost.
All of them were just not sure if he had the spiritual power to cross the rank 30 hurdle, because if he did, then they would try to poach him under their wings because in the simplest of terms, passing rank 30 means that you are already halfway the Soul Saint realm (rank 70).
It was just that no one knew what his spiritual power was since he had always denied to do the tests and neither was he telling them.
His excuse being that he was not comfortable with the test and would not do it. He didn't care for scores or neither did he heed to the Teachers' requests. Truly a pain...
Some of the teachers have even contacted the Spirit Pagoda to get some information but they have only been shown the results from three years ago as the Pagoda claimed that he hadn't done it since then.
The teachers would have forced if not for the fact that Fan Lin might turn out to be someone with potential and groundbreaking cultivation achievements and knowing his nature, he will get extremely offended at anything that was forced upon him and would likely go after them later on for his grievances that they were treading on thin ice and minding his private space and opinions.
If Fan Lin failed to break to the Soul Elder rank, they will see.

Now two things to note.
One, the first part is Fan Lin force narration and its bland, showcasing his emotions. He had no actual plans on what to actually do in the future. It's all improvisation as time passes. And yes, he is not liking his life.
I will keep it to this much since anymore would be spoilers.
The second part is normal narration and just showcases the things in a simple and crude sense without revealing anything that might be interesting or worth reading for.
There's a reason why I am writing it this way but its spoilers.
