When I stopped in my parking lot, I got out and unbuckled Tony. I sighed with relief when I saw him fast asleep. I grabbed my bag and Tony's dipper bag.
As I walked in and placed the bags down by the door and went to my room where Tony's crib was. Then I took my phone and called the hospital. When they picked up on the other side I said, "Hi, I want to look on an update on a patient Cathrine Everdeen." "I'll check for you quickly." then I heard tapping on a computer as I waited.
After a few minutes she sighed and said, "I'm sorry to inform you up she passed away this morning. Her blood wasn't stabilizing." my breath was caught in my throat. "Oh, thank you for telling me." As the call disconnected, I cried silently not to wake Tony up.
Then I heard a car pull up in my driveway. I rubbed the tears away and stood up and walked to the front door. I opened it then Emily and Lilly ran in passed me. I looked up and saw Asher, "Thank you for bringing Emily here." He glanced at me then cubed my face with his hand and asked, "Are you alright? It looks like you've been crying."
I looked behind me to make sure Emily nor Lilly was near to heard me talk. I looked back at him and said, "I called the hospital and asked about Cathrine. And the news wasn't so great." "What happened?" I sighed, "She....uh...passed away this morning." I said as new tears streamed down my cheeks. Asher pulled me into a hug comforting me.
Then I heard Emily say, "Are you okay?" I looked at her crouched next to her and said, "I'm fine. I just had a rough day at school." I smiled and she hugged me saying, "If anyone bullies you again, I will deal with them on my own. You are like a mom to me." I looked her in the eyes and said, "So you came to see if you could call me mom?" she nodded with a slime then said, "Mom told me she won't have much time. So, she gave me permission to call you my mom since you always look after us."
I smiled as more tears streamed down from my eyes, "I would be honored to be your mom." she hugged me. 'And I'm sorry to tell you your mom died." she sniffed and wipe her tears, "I knew this was going to happen when she fell in the kitchen. So, I'm fine." I hugged her. 'I'll try to be a great mom to you and Tony."
She smiled then said, "You are a great mom. I'm going back to Lilly." I smiled and stood up as she walked away. I turned to Asher, and he hugged me and said, "Emily it would be alright. I will help you where I can." I cried again as he hugged me. Then I heard Tony crying, "Someone is awake. I'll be back now." I said walking up the stairs towards Tony.
I picked him up and he smiled and giggled. It made me smile. I walked down the stairs with Tony in my arms. "Asher do you think I can send Tony to preschool with Emily and Lilly?" He nodded. When he turned to look at me his face was full of paint. I couldn't help but laugh.
"What happened to you?" he looked at me and smiled, "Emily and Lilly happened if that answers your question." "My gosh. You look so funny." he rolled his eyes. Then Lilly said, "Emily do you think he looks beautiful? We did his make-up." I smiled, "I love it." she smiled then continued to paint.
As time passed it was five in the afternoon, and it was time for Asher and Lilly to go home. As we walked to the door Asher gave me a kiss and said, "I hope you sleep well tonight. And I'll see you tomorrow on our date." I smiled, "I will try and see you tomorrow. Drive home save." They got in the car and drove away.
Then I made dinner for me and Emily. After we ate, I fed Tony while Emily took a bath. When she was done Tony was asleep and I tucked her into bed, "Good night, Emily. Sleep tight." She smiled and said, "Good night, Mom." as I closed her door I smiled. She was serious about calling me mom. Well, she is like a daughter to me.
