Chapter 16 - Chapter 20: MIXED EMOTIONS

Marcel

"You're a horrible human being, Marcel.." I stood in the same spot, not minding the downpour, and my eyes were glued on Odessa's back as she walked away.

I knew how much of a horrible person I am, but after seeing the glint in her eyes when I saved her from the mayor, I thought maybe there was still some sort of good left in me.

"I really am a horrible person.." I muttered as I wiped my face and stroller casually into the manor as if my clothes weren't completely drenched.

"Marcel, where the hell have you been?" Thana asked the moment I stepped into the manor, but I brushed past her and dragged my wet feet upstairs to my room.

"Don't stand there gawking!" I heard her yell at one of the servants. "Get someone to clean this place up".

"Marcel?"

I left my door open because I knew she followed me in.

"You could catch the flu, Marcel…. You're not a child anymore, so why would you be playing in the rain when you have so much work to do?" Thana scolded, but I took my outer clothes off and went into the washroom.

By the time I returned, my mind was already back to its normal state. Seeing Thana on my bed made memories flood back into my head. Moments when I thought the universe had finally decided to be in my favor.

I wiped off my body and changed into warm clothes before going over to the bed where Thana sat. Her hazel eyes darted around my face softly… like she yearned for me as much as I did her.

But the moment I got close to her, she adjusted and turned her face away.

"Have I done something Thana?" I asked and cupped her face in my palms but she said nothing. "You still haven't said anything about the reason for your disappearance five years ago.. why are you leaving me in the dark?"

Thana let out a heavy sigh, and I let go of her face. She seemed uncomfortable with how close I was to her, so I got up and stood by the curtains, leaning on the wall behind me and crossing my arms over my chest.

"Marcel I….

It…. It's not something I can say Marcel.. I don't know where to start or even how to phrase it" she replied and my eyes remained glued to her face.

"Did you find someone else?" I asked out of the blue, and she shook her head.

"I would never hurt you, Marcel… I've told you this before, but you probably don't believe me, do you?" She shot back, and all I did was stand and watch her fill my head once again.

The rain slowly turned into a storm, with thunderbolts filling the skies and rain splattering on the roof with full force.

"You do know that I have every right to send you away from my home for good because you can't disappear from sight for five whole years and then return to my life without a concrete explanation as to why you left in the first place.." I snarled, my blood slowly rising.

"Why do you want to make a mountain out of this molehill, Marcel?" Thana blurted, and I gritted my teeth. "I already told you now that I can't disclose my reason for disappearing to you. Have I not made it clear enough that all I did was for your safety?"

"Thana, what on earth were you saving me from?" My voice thundered, and I almost lost control of my anger. Her eyes widened, and I could see the fear in them, but I needed answers

"For God's sake, Thana, speak to me!" I ordered and closed the distance between us.

She glared at me blankly, and we locked each other in an intense eye contact. The only sound in the room was from the storm outside. But even so, her heartbeat was louder than the rumbling thunder.

"I… I can't say more than I already did, Marcel… I'm sorry," Thana muttered softly, and tears flowed down her face. My fingers gripped tightly, and my blood boiled.

Seeing tears in her eyes just made me feel different all of a sudden, and I took a deep breath to calm myself down. I let go of my anger and wrapped my arms around her, pulling her closer to my body than she already was.

"I'm sorry I made you cry.." I muttered, and she nodded. Her eyes were already bloodshot and puffy, so I planted a kiss on each one and then on her lips.

She didn't return my gesture, so I let go of her waist and gave her space.

Someone knocked at the door, and before I could respond, the door pushed open and Aaron let himself in.

He glanced at Thana, and then at me.

"Apologies for my intrusion, master, but you have a guest downstairs.." he informed and I lifted my brows.

"A guest in this storm?" I asked and he nodded.

"Wait here… I'll come meet you after I discharge whoever the guest is," I said to Thana and left the room without minding if Aaron was coming behind me or not.

I got to the living room and almost burst out laughing.

"Liam, what in the world are you doing here in this raging storm?" I asked and he just stared at me, drenched from his hair to his shoes.

"I was already on my way before the rain started, and I couldn't turn around." He replied, and I smacked my lips.

"I'll get someone to clean you up and run you a warm bath–"

"Master…" Odessa called, and I lifted my head in the direction of her voice. "The medications your mother's physician gave to me for the pains in her legs aren't doing any work.." she said, and I sighed.

"Don't administer them to her anymore. I'll get a new physician first thing tomorrow.." I replied, and she bobbed a courtesy before leaving.

"Is she one of your servants, Marcel?" Liam asked, but I rolled my eyes. "I should probably go with you to one of these slave sales… I might end up seeing an angel to marry!"

"Dahlia, get someone to run a warm bath for my guest.." I ordered, and she nodded.

"One more thing, Marcel…" Liam started. "I hope Thana isn't here?"
