Chapter 30 - CHAPTER 30

The mood shifted. Some were happy, others cautious. They expected me to brag, to soak in the victory. But I knew power wasn't about showing off—it was about control.

Across the table, Ronald Haley sat silently, watching me. His gaze followed my every move, making my skin tingle. He had underestimated me before, thinking I was just another ambitious woman trying to reach too high. Today, I had proved him wrong.

"Miss Celeste" he finally said, his voice smooth but firm, "you turned a losing situation into a winning one."

"I don't gamble," I replied coolly. "I calculate."

A flicker of a smile crossed his lips, a rare sign of admiration. "Noted."

The meeting ended, and I took my time gathering my things as the others left. I needed a moment to take it all in. The rush of success felt like fire running through my veins, burning away all my past doubts.

This was only the beginning.

As I stepped into the hallway, my heels clicked against the marble floor with new confidence. I had walked these halls before, but never like this—never with heads turning, whispers following.

But power came with a price. And I knew it wouldn't be long before someone tried to take it from me.

---

I had just reached my office when a familiar voice broke the silence.

"Well, well, if it isn't the woman of the hour."

I turned to see Lenny Vaughn leaning against the doorway, arms crossed, his usual smirk in place.

"Are you here to congratulate me," I asked, "or to remind me that I don't belong?"

He tilted his head slightly, eyes gleaming. "Neither. I'm here to warn you."

I tightened my grip on the desk. "About what?"

He stepped forward, lowering his voice. "Ronald."

I let out a short laugh, though unease curled in my stomach. "You think I can't handle him?"

Lenny's expression darkened. "I think he's not finished playing. And you're in his way."

I met his eyes without hesitation. "Good."

Lenny sighed, shaking his head. "Just be careful, Celeste. He doesn't take losing well."

Neither do I.

---

That evening, I stood by my window, looking out at the glittering city skyline. My first real victory felt heavy yet thrilling. The view from the top was breathtaking—but I knew it could also be lonely.

My phone buzzed.

Unknown Number: Congratulations. Let's see how long you can keep winning.

A chill ran down my spine. The taste of power was sweet, but the warning was clear.

I was ready for the next move.
