Synopsis
Shoyo Hinata’s volleyball journey was supposed to be over—at least, that’s what he thought after a grueling pro match that left him standing across the net from Kageyama one last time. But when he wakes up in his childhood bedroom, trapped in the body of his fifteen-year-old self, he realizes something impossible has happened. The crushing defeat against Kitagawa Daiichi still stings, but now, Hinata carries something he never had before: the skills, instincts, and memories of a professional player. His body may be small again, but his mind holds a decade of experience. With Karasuno’s future burned into his memory, he sees a chance to change everything—to grow stronger, faster, and smarter before he even sets foot in the high school gym. ------ This is my own fanfiction and it's not MTL Let me know how can I improve ---- Update Schedule : 7 Chapters / Week ------- I will mostly update at the time of daily power stone reset time, but occasionally, there may be a delay of 5 to 10 minutes.

Volleyball Basics & Rules

Volleyball is a team sport where two teams of six players compete to score points by hitting a ball over the net and into the opponent's court. The game follows specific positions, rotations, and rules to maintain fair play.

1. Positions in Volleyball

Each team has six players on the court, typically divided into these roles:

Front Row (Attackers & Blockers)

Outside Hitter (Left-Side Hitter) – Main attacker; plays both front and back row, responsible for powerful spikes and receiving serves.

Middle Blocker (Middle Hitter) – Tallest player; specializes in blocking and quick attacks near the net.

Opposite Hitter (Right-Side Hitter) – Plays on the right side; a strong attacker and backup setter.

Back Row (Defenders & Playmakers)

Setter – The playmaker; sets the ball for attackers and controls the game's pace.

Libero – Defensive specialist; wears a different jersey, cannot attack or block, but excels at receiving serves and digging spikes.

Defensive Specialist – Similar to a libero but can rotate to the front row when needed.

2. Rotation Rules

Players rotate clockwise every time their team wins a serve.

Rotation ensures every player plays both front and back row positions at some point.

The front row (positions 2, 3, 4) can attack near the net, while the back row (positions 1, 5, 6) must spike from behind the 10-foot line (attack line).

The setter usually stays in position 1 or 2 to set up attacks efficiently.

3. Scoring System

Rally Scoring – Every rally results in a point, regardless of which team served.

A set is played to 25 points (must win by 2), and matches are best of 5 sets (final set goes to 15).

4. Basic Rules

Each team gets 3 touches per play: usually a pass (bump), a set, and a spike.

No double touches – A player can't hit the ball twice in a row (except on a block).

No carrying or lifting – The ball must be cleanly hit, not caught or thrown.

Service Rules – The ball must be served behind the end line and within 8 seconds.

Blocking Rules – Only front-row players can block; back-row players cannot jump in front of the attack line.

5. Faults & Violations

Net Touch – Players can't touch the net during play.

Overreach – Players can't reach over the net unless they are blocking an attack.

Foot Fault – A server steps on or over the end line.

Out of Rotation – Players must follow the correct rotation order when serving.

Large prefectures (Tokyo, Hokkaido) may send 2 teams.

2. National Tournament (July – August)

Single-elimination (lose once = eliminated).

The champion is crowned after a knockout-style tournament.

Inarizaki and Fukurodani were top competitors in Nationals.

Some prefectures (Tokyo, Osaka) send two teams.

2. National Tournament (January, Tokyo Gymnasium)

Single-elimination format.

The winning team is crowned the strongest high school volleyball team in Japan.

They competed in Nationals, facing teams like Inarizaki and Kamomedai.

---

3. Other Tournaments & Leagues

Besides the two major tournaments, teams participate in:

Summer Training Camps & Practice Matches (July – August)

Strong teams organize practice games (e.g., Karasuno vs. Nekoma).

National Sports Festival (Kokutai, October)

Similar to Inter-High but for individual prefectural teams.

Players are selected rather than competing as school teams.

Volleyball Club Leagues & Private Competitions

Some regions hold regional tournaments (e.g., Kanto Tournament).

Select players may also join youth teams or Japan's National Team.

His left-handed attack makes him even harder to defend against.

✅ Incredible Height & Jumping Ability

Keeps attacking relentlessly, even when opponents adjust.

✅ Strong Blocking & Defense

Not just an attacker—his blocking is solid due to his height and reflexes.

3. Key Skills & Techniques

Most players are right-handed, so defenses are trained to expect right-side spikes.

Ushijima's left-handed attacks force blockers to adjust, making it harder to react.

(B) Power Spike - "Straight to the Floor"

His most feared move.

Pure brute force—if the ball gets past the blockers, it's almost impossible to receive.

He doesn't just hit hard; he places shots perfectly on the lines.

A powerful jump float serve that forces weak receives.

Scores direct points or sets up an easy attack for his team.

4. Character Development

Junior High & Early Shiratorizawa –

Follows his coach's philosophy: "Only the strong should be on the court."

Sees talent as absolute and underestimates weaker-looking players.

Spring Tournament Arc (vs. Karasuno) –

Faces Hinata & Karasuno, who challenge his beliefs.

Starts respecting different styles of play.

Post-High School Career –

Joins Japan's National Team.

Plays professionally for the Schweiden Adlers, alongside Kageyama.

Hinata Shoyo – Underestimates him at first, but Hinata proves that skill > height.

Tendou Satori – His best friend at Shiratorizawa, understands him more than others.

Kageyama Tobio – Faces him later in the pros, respects his setting ability.

Atsumu Miya – Another top player who challenges his traditional volleyball mindset.

6. Weaknesses & Overcoming Them

❌ Over-Reliance on Power → Karasuno proves that speed & tactics can counter it.

❌ Too Predictable → Initially sticks to straight-line spikes but adapts later.

❌ Underestimates Opponents → Learns to respect non-traditional styles.

7. Why Ushijima is Special

The most dominant ace in high school volleyball.

Symbolizes power-focused volleyball, contrasting with Karasuno's fast-paced style.

One of the few players to seriously challenge Hinata & Kageyama.

Final Thoughts

Ushijima is Haikyuu!!'s strongest spiker—a nearly unbeatable wall of power. His match vs. Karasuno is legendary, showing that raw power alone isn't enough and that adaptability wins championships.

-----

1. Background & Personality

Oikawa Tooru, the captain and setter of Aoba Johsai (Seijoh), is one of the most complex and talented characters in Haikyuu!!. Unlike prodigies like Kageyama, Oikawa wasn't naturally gifted—he built his skills through years of relentless practice.

✅ Powerful Jump Serve - "Service Ace"

One of the strongest servers in Haikyuu!!.

✅ Mental Fortitude & Control

Unlike Kageyama, who is mechanically perfect, Oikawa is a psychological player.

Uses mind games to unnerve opponents.

Karasuno's Third Years: The Pillars of the Team

The third years of Karasuno High's volleyball team—Daichi Sawamura, Kōshi Sugawara, Asahi Azumane, and Kiyoko Shimizu—play a pivotal role in Haikyuu!!, both in terms of skill and leadership. As seniors, they serve as the backbone of the team, providing guidance, motivation, and experience that shape Karasuno's growth. Each of them has a distinct personality and contribution that adds depth to the team dynamic, making their presence irreplaceable.

---

Daichi Sawamura: The Unshakable Captain

Daichi Sawamura is Karasuno's captain and starting wing spiker. As the leader, he embodies resilience, discipline, and responsibility, ensuring the team remains focused and cohesive. While he isn't the flashiest player on the court, his defensive skills, leadership, and sheer presence make him invaluable.

Leadership & Impact: Daichi is often described as the "glue" that holds the team together. His ability to maintain order, especially when tensions rise among the younger players, allows Karasuno to function smoothly. He sets high standards for the team, both in practice and during matches, and commands respect from every player. His authoritative yet supportive leadership fosters a sense of unity, making him a true captain in every sense of the word.

Playing Style: Though not a powerhouse spiker like Hinata or Asahi, Daichi is a crucial part of Karasuno's receive and defense. His reliable receive allows Karasuno to maintain its offensive rhythm, and he has a keen sense of positioning that enables him to cover for his teammates' mistakes. His playing style is one of consistency, embodying the principle that a strong foundation is key to a team's success.

Memorable Moments: One of Daichi's most defining moments comes in the match against Wakutani South, where he gets injured after a collision with Tanaka. His absence is felt immediately, as Karasuno struggles with defensive coordination without him. This moment highlights how much he contributes beyond just his playing ability—his presence alone provides stability and reassurance.

---

Kōshi Sugawara: The Tactical Setter

Kōshi Sugawara, often referred to as "Suga," is the vice-captain and backup setter for Karasuno. Though he loses his starting position to Kageyama, he never allows this to deter him, showing immense maturity and a team-first mentality.

Leadership & Impact: Sugawara serves as an emotional anchor for the team. He offers words of encouragement, keeps spirits high, and often provides guidance to younger players, especially Kageyama. His understanding of his teammates' personalities and needs makes him an indispensable mentor.

Playing Style: Unlike Kageyama, who thrives on speed and precision, Sugawara relies on adaptability and strategy. He's known for his ability to read the game and adjust plays accordingly, using his experience to outmaneuver opponents. His float serves and unexpected plays often catch the opposing team off guard, showing that experience can be just as valuable as raw skill.

Memorable Moments: One of his standout moments occurs during the match against Shiratorizawa, where he is subbed in and successfully breaks through Ushijima's defenses with his clever setting choices. His presence shifts the game's momentum, proving that even as a substitute, he is a game-changer.

---

Asahi Azumane: The Gentle Ace

Asahi Azumane, Karasuno's ace, has one of the most compelling character arcs in the series. His struggle with self-doubt and eventual growth into a reliable leader showcase his depth as a character.

Leadership & Impact: Though initially insecure about his abilities, Asahi gradually learns to embrace his role as the team's ace. His strength lies in his powerful spikes, but his journey to regaining confidence after feeling like a failure highlights his resilience. His growth inspires others, particularly players like Yamaguchi, who also struggle with self-doubt.

Playing Style: Asahi is Karasuno's main offensive weapon, relying on brute strength and height to overwhelm blockers. His cross-court spikes are nearly unstoppable when he's in the right mindset. However, what truly sets him apart is his ability to adjust under pressure, a skill he develops over time.

Memorable Moments: One of Asahi's most significant moments is in the match against Date Tech, where he finally overcomes his fear of the "Iron Wall" and scores a critical point. This moment marks his transformation from a hesitant player into a true ace, one who takes responsibility for the team's offense.

---

Kiyoko Shimizu: The Silent Guardian

Kiyoko Shimizu, Karasuno's manager, may not be a player, but her contributions to the team are just as vital. She ensures the team is well-prepared, maintains order, and serves as a quiet but strong presence that supports the boys from the sidelines.

Leadership & Impact: Kiyoko rarely speaks, but when she does, her words carry weight. She is highly responsible, ensuring the team's equipment, schedules, and logistics are in order. Beyond that, she is also a source of quiet strength, inspiring both the players and her successor, Yachi.

Memorable Moments: A particularly touching moment is when Kiyoko chases after Yamaguchi's serve ball, risking injury in the process. This act shows her dedication and willingness to go beyond the typical duties of a manager, proving her love for the team.

---

The Legacy of Karasuno's Third Years

As the oldest members of the team, Karasuno's third years serve as guiding figures. Their departure at the end of the series is emotional, as their presence was integral to the team's identity. However, their legacy lives on in the younger players who continue to uphold the values they instilled.

The bond between these four characters adds depth to Haikyuu!!, making them not just mentors but also a family within the team. Their impact extends beyond the court, influencing both their teammates and the audience in profound ways.

Karasuno wouldn't be the same without them, and their journey is a testament to the importance of experience, leadership, and perseverance in the world of sports and beyond.

They are the s and foundation for the Karasuno and guidance for the first years without the support of them even kageyama can't get to play in starting line up I mean 3rd years won't let 1st year take their place

-----

Karasuno High School's second-year students play an important role in the team's dynamic, development, and overall morale in Haikyuu!!. Unlike the first-years, who are new and full of raw talent, or the third-years, who are experienced leaders, the second-years occupy a unique middle ground. They bring stability to the team while still striving to improve and carve their own legacies. The main second-years in Karasuno's volleyball team are Nishinoya Yuu, Tanaka Ryuunosuke, Ennoshita Chikara, Kinoshita Hisashi, and Narita Kazuhito. While they may not always be in the spotlight like Hinata or Kageyama, their contributions are essential to Karasuno's success.

Nishinoya Yuu: The Guardian Deity

Arguably the most well-known and impactful second-year on the team, Nishinoya Yuu is Karasuno's libero, known for his incredible reflexes and fearless defensive skills. Despite his short stature at 159.3 cm, he compensates with exceptional athleticism and an unshakable spirit. His bold personality and high energy make him one of the most entertaining characters in Haikyuu!!.

Nishinoya is famous for his "Rolling Thunder" move, a dramatic rolling receive that often leaves his teammates and opponents in awe. His quick reflexes and ability to read the game make him a crucial defensive pillar, allowing Karasuno to stand firm against powerful spikes from opposing teams. His ability to receive powerful serves and spikes is the backbone of Karasuno's defensive strategy. Nishinoya also has a deep admiration for the third-years, particularly Asahi Azumane, whom he sees as Karasuno's ace. His unwavering belief in Asahi helps the latter regain his confidence after past failures.

Aside from his skills, Nishinoya's personality brings an essential spark to the team. His loud and boisterous nature is often a source of comic relief, and his passionate approach to volleyball inspires his teammates. He shares a particularly close bond with Tanaka, his fellow second-year, and together, they form a duo of relentless enthusiasm and mischief.

Tanaka Ryuunosuke: The Fearless Attacker

Tanaka Ryuunosuke is another second-year who plays a vital role in Karasuno's team. He is a wing spiker and serves as one of Karasuno's main offensive players alongside Asahi and later Hinata. Tanaka is known for his aggressive playing style, powerful spikes, and his intimidating presence on the court. However, despite his outwardly tough and delinquent-like appearance, Tanaka is one of the most loyal and kind-hearted members of the team.

His biggest strength lies in his unwavering confidence. Even when faced with formidable opponents, Tanaka never lets doubt creep into his mind. His ability to brush off failures and maintain high morale makes him a key emotional support for his teammates. He plays an important role in keeping Karasuno's energy levels up, often encouraging the first-years and standing up for them in tough situations.

Tanaka is also well-known for his humor and exaggerated reactions, particularly when it comes to girls. He harbors a deep admiration (bordering on a crush) for Kiyoko Shimizu, Karasuno's manager, and often makes bold, albeit futile, attempts to win her affection. His dynamic with Nishinoya is one of the highlights of the series, as the two often hype each other up in hilarious ways.

Ennoshita Chikara: The Quiet Leader

Among the second-years, Ennoshita Chikara stands out as a level-headed and responsible player. He is a wing spiker and, while not a regular starter, he is seen as a potential successor to Daichi Sawamura, the third-year captain. Unlike Nishinoya and Tanaka, who are loud and energetic, Ennoshita has a calmer demeanor and often acts as a stabilizing force within the team.

Ennoshita's journey in volleyball is marked by personal growth and perseverance. He originally quit the team during his first year due to the intense training under their previous coach, Ukai Sr. However, he later realized his mistake and returned, determined to work harder. This experience gives him a unique perspective, making him more empathetic and understanding toward his teammates. He takes his role seriously and has a strong sense of responsibility, often stepping in to guide or advise others when needed.

Although he doesn't get as much time in the spotlight as Nishinoya or Tanaka, Ennoshita proves his worth during the Spring High tournament. When Daichi is temporarily injured, he steps in as a substitute captain and plays a crucial role in maintaining Karasuno's composure. His strategic mindset and ability to stay calm under pressure make him an invaluable asset to the team.

Kinoshita Hisashi and Narita Kazuhito: The Underrated Supporters

Kinoshita and Narita are two second-years who often remain in the background but are nonetheless important members of Karasuno's volleyball team. While they do not get as much screen time as Nishinoya, Tanaka, or even Ennoshita, their presence highlights the importance of bench players in a team sport like volleyball.

Kinoshita is particularly notable for his role as a pinch server. Though he lacks the confidence of some of his more outspoken teammates, he works hard to improve his skills. He struggles with self-doubt but continues to push himself, showing how even non-starters have an essential role in the team's overall success. His development throughout the series reflects Haikyuu!!'s broader theme of growth and perseverance.

Narita, on the other hand, is a middle blocker who steps up when needed. Like Kinoshita, he doesn't get as much attention, but his contributions are important. He fills in when Tsukishima or other players need a break, ensuring that Karasuno's defense remains solid. His steady presence and willingness to support the team demonstrate the significance of every player, regardless of how much time they spend on the court.

The Role of Karasuno's Second Years in the Team's Growth

The second-years of Karasuno represent the bridge between the outgoing third-years and the rising first-years. They bring experience without the weight of final-year pressure, making them essential to the team's balance. Nishinoya and Tanaka provide energy, passion, and skill; Ennoshita brings leadership potential and composure; and Kinoshita and Narita remind us of the unsung heroes who work hard behind the scenes.

Their presence is also crucial in shaping the younger players. Tanaka takes Hinata and Yamaguchi under his wing, encouraging them and giving them confidence. Nishinoya serves as an inspiration for defensive plays, showing the first-years what it means to never give up. Ennoshita, with his measured approach, provides guidance and a calm perspective that helps stabilize the team in tough moments.

Conclusion

While much of Haikyuu!! focuses on the rivalry between Hinata and Kageyama or the leadership of the third-years, Karasuno's second-years serve as the glue that holds the team together. Each member brings something unique to the table, from Nishinoya's incredible defense and Tanaka's fearless offense to Ennoshita's leadership potential and the quiet perseverance of Kinoshita and Narita. Their growth throughout the series highlights the importance of teamwork, resilience, and the idea that every player—starter or benchwarmer—has a role to play in achieving victory. Without them, Karasuno would not be the formidable team it becomes, proving that success is built not just on star players but on the collective effort of every individual on the court.

---

3. Tanji Washijo (Shiratorizawa's Coach – The Strict Perfectionist)

Background & Personality:

Oldest and most rigid coach in Haikyuu!!, leading Shiratorizawa for years.

Believes in traditional discipline and physical dominance.

Initially disrespects smaller players like Hinata, seeing them as unfit for top teams.

Coaching Strengths:

Trains Ushijima Wakatoshi into Japan's most powerful ace.

Prioritizes raw power, strong fundamentals, and overwhelming presence.

✅ Instills a Winning Mentality

Shiratorizawa consistently dominates in their prefecture, qualifying for Nationals.

Players develop strong discipline and mental toughness.

✅ Respects Dedication & Growth (Eventually)

Initially dismisses Hinata, but later acknowledges his growth after seeing him evolve.

After Nationals, he realizes volleyball is changing, accepting that skill and strategy matter too.

Key Moments:

Shiratorizawa vs. Karasuno (Miyagi Prefectural Finals) – His philosophy is challenged by Karasuno's speed and adaptability.

After the Loss to Karasuno – Admits that the era of volleyball is evolving beyond just raw power.

Weaknesses & Challenges:

❌ Struggles to adapt to modern volleyball, where speed and versatility matter more.
