Chapter 7 - :Rude Awakening [II]

Xuan blankly stares at the two men right in front of him, unaware of what they were seeing. As he was shown the meter device, Xuan yelled even louder.

"Whaaat?"

Xuan didn't know how it happened, but his power level, which was previously a hundred, was now a thousand. Such a leap took him from F-rank up to a C-rank.

F-rankers are power levels within the range of 100–500, and D-rank takes 500–1000 power level, placing C-rank at 1000–2500 power level.

But for someone who had a hundred power level to have such leaps after consuming a gene was nearly impossible to think of—it was usually two times your previous level.

But Xuan had gotten ten times his previous power level.

"He did eat the god gene. That's the only explanation," said Lun, staring at Xuan as if they'd been deceived.

"Mr. Shaung, China Hunter League has a person with a god gene. This will take us to the highest point in the global ranking," said Lun.

Most organizations were interested in becoming the top global hunters because the ones at the top get paid well. Also, as the globe's top organization, they get to call any guild to work with them without rejection.

So Xuan understood why most organizations like Lun were obsessed about this global ranking thing. And Lun thinks, if they had such a position, raiding the Ant Cave wouldn't have led to such casualties.

Mr. Shaung looks at Xuan with a smile. "This shouldn't go out. It should stay in here between us three. As far as anyone is concerned, Xuan is yet to be discovered as an inheritor of a god gene," said Mr. Shaung.

Hearing this, Xuan and Lun looked at each other and back at Mr. Shaung, then yelled simultaneously.

"But why?" asked Xuan.

"Yes, sir, why? Don't you want to be ranked at the top of global organizations?" asked Lun.

"Don't you want me to be well paid? I need a lot of money," said Xuan. He got glares from Lun, who thought, So money was Xuan's only problem, but Xuan shrugged the feeling off.

"I cannot risk it. Xuan is an inexperienced hunter. Having him on the news could lead to him being seen as a potential threat to the other guilds. Even Japan could eliminate him for having the gene they first discovered," said Mr. Shaung.

Lun couldn't counter those words and just kept quiet. He respected Shaung a lot and gave a nod, but Xuan didn't back down.

"What about the part where the gene I have can bring me a lot of money?" asked Xuan.

"I have a guild inside the Sanctuary. I'll introduce you to Mei Long. She'll teach you, and your pay will be settled. Once you're discharged, I'll send someone to pick you up."

Xuan agrees. Then Lun placed the meter back in his bag. He sighed and watched them leave the room, a big smile etched across Xuan's face.

But just as Lun and Mr. Shaung left the room, Xuan felt a familiar aura standing beside the door. It was his sister, Xue Chen.

She had been waiting outside due to the nurse's instruction. As they came out, she ran in and hugged Xuan tight, as if planning to choke him.

He coughed a few times and just relaxed in her embrace. Xue Chen had a morsel of tears hanging in her eyes.

"Are you okay?" she asked Xuan, who smiled and agreed with a nod.

"If you get hit by a pillow on the face, will you die?" asked Xue Chen. Xuan didn't really think about that question and just said no. The moment he replied, Xue Chen took the pillow from his head and hit him.

"Why did you go to Teras? What if you had died?" she mumbled after hitting him. Xuan understood why she felt that way.

He was her only family, except for some of their relatives who had abandoned them after their parents died a few years ago.

"You said you were going to find a job, but you ended up entering Teras."

"Well, killing monsters is the trending, well-paid job. Haven't you heard?" Xuan teased. Xue Chen sent death glares at him, saying it wasn't funny.

But Xuan was telling the truth. There was no other job he was qualified for because he had to drop out and send his sister to school.

When he searched the internet, he found that hunting monsters and selling their cores was really trending and paid well. Also, the only qualification needed was a hundred power level.

"Don't ever do that to me again," Xue Chen continued. "What are you looking at, Brother Xuan?" she asked.

She blankly stared at Xuan, who was just staring in front of him instead of at her. She also noticed Xuan was a bit confused when she said that.

"You mean, you don't see the quest panel?" asked Xuan Chen.

"Brother Xuan, why are you playing with your life? Life is not a game with a quest panel for entering Teras. If you die there, what would I do?"

It was a yes or no answer, but still, I don't think anybody else can see this thing, thought Xuan.

-[Player: Xuan Chen]

-[You Have 3 Unread Messages]

-[Open]-----------------------[Close]

Xuan read through the blue holographic interface in front of his eyes. It was like a gaming panel, like those ones in quest games.

But when he tried tapping the open option, it didn't work out for him. "Xue Chen, did you ever play any virtual quest game?"

"Xuan!!!" Xue Chen yelled, thinking Xuan wasn't serious. But still, she replied to him. "I don't play games, but Zha Ling does."

"Oh, your friend. How does she open the quest panel?" asked Xuan.

"There's a headgear. She uses neurotransmitters. I'll be late for school now, Brother Xuan. And stop thinking about games. You almost got killed," said Xue Chen before she left, and Xuan waved at her.

Neurotransmitter... why didn't I think of that? Okay, open messages, thought Xuan.

It unbelievably worked, and Xuan saw the messages popping out, making it four different interfaces in front of him.

-[Quest 01: Consume 10 bars of chocolate sugars]

-[Quest 02: Run 3KM with a lift of 15kg tied to your back]

-[Quest 03: Perform 100 pushups in 10 minutes; 0/100]

-[Reward: ?????]

Xuan looked at the screen and laughed. He hissed and lay back on the comfortable bed, thinking he wasn't doing any of that. Then another interface appeared.

-[Time left: 24 hrs 59 min 30 sec]

Xuan also ignored this interface, but the last interface had his heart jumping out.

-[Quest Penalty: You'll be sent to the death Zone in Teras]
