Jason was most likely going to become one of the most powerful superhumans in the world over the next few years. She couldn't let their relationship sour right off the bat!
Rose let go of Gina and allowed her to fall to her feet before she turned to Jason and spoke up.
"You know my guild were the ones who got the contract for that Gate. That means you just took our daily bread away from us."
Jason glared down at the shorter woman before he turned to Gina and pulled her closer.
"You okay?"
Jason checked to see if there was anything wrong with Gina, but Gina put her hand on Jason's chest and told him she was fine while nodding.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just… what the hell happened to you?"
Jason shook his head. It was a long story, and he really didn't want to explain anything while he was surrounded by so many people. The flashes of cameras and screaming of reporters were still echoing all around Jason, and since he wasn't used to all this, he found it hard to tune them out since there were so many.
Once Jason was sure that Gina wasn't hurt, he turned to give Rose a hard look.
"If I ever see you touch her again, I'll fucking kill you."
Rose glared up at Jason.
"Before throwing around accusations, you should know that she was the one interrupting my business. I already told her to stay away, but she wouldn't listen."
Rose wasn't going to back down about this. She was a proud woman, and even though she wanted to get on Jason's good side, that didn't mean she was going to become a bootlicker. As far as Rose was concerned, she hadn't done anything wrong and she wasn't going to apologize when she hadn't done anything wrong!
Jason kept his glare in place for a while as he stared into Rose's eyes, and Rose held his gaze without flinching. The pressure in the area began to intensify as they unconsciously released some of their mana, and Rose was shocked when she felt the intense mana present within Jason! It was almost twice as much as her own!
'His mana is stronger than a Red Gate Boss! How can someone awaken with this much power!?'
Rose was shocked at Jason's power and she realized at that moment that maybe she shouldn't be picking a fight with this man! He was an asset! Someone that she needed to become close to!
Rose let out a sigh to the side, and her pressure finally let off. She turned to Jason while putting on a small smile, and extended her hand.
"Maybe we got off on the wrong foot. My name is Rose. Rose Grant. I'm the head of the Hornet Guild and we were on our way to clear the Red Gate when things spiraled out of control. Let's just say mistakes were made and forget about it. What do you say…?"
Rose put on her most appealing smile to try and make Jason relax. Even though she wasn't a girly girl, Rose knew that she was a beautiful woman, and she was no stranger to being admired by men. She was sure that her smile would be enough to make any man's heart melt.
But Jason only looked down at the extended hand for a moment before giving her a condescending look.
"You better hope we never cross paths again, Hornet. Next time, I won't be so forgiving."
Rose's eyes narrowed into a glare as anger filled her heart. If Jason was still a regular human, then Rose's glare would've affected him, but with what he just went through, he knew he could handle Rose without any issues.
Jason turned away from the offer of friendship and took Gina by the hand before he started walking away, and Rose felt an unbearable rage building up from inside her. An angry blush lit up her cheek as she dropped her hand in embarrassment, and her teeth were grit so tight that they were close to breaking! How dare he ignore her hand like that!? Did he think he was better than her just because he awakened as an A-Rank!?
The flashes of cameras and shouting of the reporters only made her feel worse after she realized that this entire scene was going to become morning news the next day. She turned to her guild vice-captain.
"Get me the SMD on the phone!"
"What? Now?"
"Yes, now! This gate was meant to be cleared by our guild, and he took that away! Get the SMD on the phone now! We're suing him!"
The vice-captain immediately hurried to make the call, and Rose began to storm away from the scene with the shouts of the reporters and flashes of light following her and her guild members.
Back with Jason and Gina, they were on their way down the alley when Gina finally seemed to come back to her senses and stopped Jason from pulling her.
"Jason, wait. Wait! What the hell happened to you? How are you okay? Did you Awaken?"
Gina spoke the last words with wide eyes as she looked Jason over. She had felt the mana from Jason when he was confronting Rose and she could tell that Jason was strong.
No, he wasn't just strong. He was unbelievably strong!
Gina had once been the more powerful one between the both of them, and she was always holding back whenever they were hugging or holding hands since she knew that she could seriously hurt him if she went all out, but now she knew that Jason was more powerful than her!
The only thing that could do this to a person was an awakening!
But it was unheard of for someone to not only awaken so late in life but to awaken such a powerful ability.
Most awakenings happened when you were somewhere between fourteen to sixteen. Those were the years when your body changed the most, so getting a Gift would allow your body to grow with your abilities.
Gina gained her ability when she was sixteen. She was a high-level E Rank when she awakened, and in the four years since then, she was only able to grow her strength up to the low-level C Rank since her potential wasn't very high. Her growth was already slowing down and she knew that it would take a very long time for her to reach B Rank.
According to those who did Superhuman Research, by the time you reach eighteen, the chances of awakening were less than 10%, and by the time you pass your twenties, that number would reduce to below 1%. Worst of all, awakening at such an old age would mean that you could never grow as quickly as others since your body had already gone through most of its changes, and you would most likely remain below C Rank for your entire life!
But right now, Jason was definitely a superhuman! He had awakened at eighteen, and his mana was so powerful that she could feel pressure from it even when he wasn't trying to oppress her! Awakening as an A rank was unheard of and becoming an A Rank was so difficult that only less than 10% of superhumans would ever manage to reach it!
None of it made sense!
Jason turned and gave Gina a small smile, and Gina cursed the blush that rose on her face when she saw his handsome face. Jason tightened his hand around her own and told her he would explain it later.
"Let's get out of here first. I don't like the crowd. I'm sure my mum would be—"
Gina's eyes widened!
"Right! Jason, I forgot to tell you! Your mum!"
Jason turned to Gina with wide eyes once he heard her talk about his mother!
"Forgot to tell me what!?"
"Your mum saw the news and… she fainted. She's at the General Hospital—"
BOOM!
Before Gina could even finish what she was saying, Jason was already gone!
A massive crater formed on the ground where Jason had been standing as he blasted off into the air, and the intense pressure from his exit blew many people away as they fell back! Gina also took a few steps back and had to steady herself before she swore and went to take a cab.
Superhumans weren't allowed to use their abilities outside the Gate, so she knew that Jason was going to be sanctioned by the SMD once things settled down.
The SMD were the Superhuman Management Department, and they were the ones in charge of handling every issue in the country related to superhumans. They were led by some of the most powerful superhumans in the country, so every other superhuman knew better than to go against their laws.
