Elena spent the night in their guest house, replaying the scene over and over in her mind. She wanted answers. She wanted the truth. But when she confronted Daniel the next morning, all she received were lies.
"You're imagining things, Elena."
She let out a bitter laugh. "Imagining? I saw you, Daniel. With her. In that hotel."
Daniel sighed, rubbing his temple. "It's not what you think."
"Then explain it to me," she snapped. "Because from where I stood, it looked exactly like what I think it is."
His expression hardened. "You're being paranoid."
"Paranoid?" Her voice cracked. "I have given you everything, and you—"
He grabbed her wrist, his grip tightening. "And I never asked for any of it."
Elena froze. For the first time, she saw something in Daniel's eyes that chilled her to the bone. Not regret. Not shame. But calculation.
"You have everything, Elena," he murmured, his grip still firm. "Your wealth. Your success. Your perfect life. Did you ever think that maybe… I wanted more?"
Her breath hitched. "What are you saying?"
He leaned in, his voice cold. "I'm saying that love was never enough. And now, I don't need you anymore."
A shiver ran down her spine. The man she married—the man she had loved for years—was gone. And in his place stood a stranger.
" wha..what are you trying to say" Elena asked with a shaky voice
"Dont you understand?"
"i don't make me understand" she said praying in her mind that it should not be what she thinks he was saying
"Elena stood frozen, the weight of Daniel's words pressing down on her chest like a crushing boulder. She searched his face, desperate for a flicker of the man she once knew—the man who had held her late at night, whispered promises into her ear, and made her believe in forever. But there was nothing. Only indifference.
The silence between them stretched, thick with unspoken truths and shattered illusions.
She forced herself to speak, her voice a mere whisper. "Daniel, please… tell me this isn't real."
He smirked, a cruel shadow of the smile she had once adored. "Elena, you always lived in a fantasy. This?" He gestured between them. "This was never about love for me."
Her heart clenched, but she refused to let the tears fall. She had already given him too much—her trust, her devotion, her life.
"What was it about, then?" she demanded, her nails digging into her palms. "Was it the money? The status? The life I built?"
He let out a dry chuckle. "You were convenient. A stepping stone. And now, I've outgrown you."
Elena's stomach twisted. She had known something was wrong for months, had felt the distance growing between them. But she had convinced herself it was just a rough patch, something they could fix. Now, standing before him, the truth was a dagger to her soul.
"How long?" she asked, her voice barely audible.
Daniel tilted his head. "Does it matter?"
She swallowed back the bile rising in her throat. "It matters to me."
His gaze flickered with something—annoyance? Amusement? It was impossible to tell. "A while," he finally admitted. "Long enough to know I want out."
The finality in his voice sent a fresh wave of nausea crashing over her. He wasn't just ending their marriage—he was erasing her from his life.
A sharp wind rattled the window behind her, but the chill in the room came from him.
"You're a monster," she whispered, each word laced with pain.
Daniel stepped closer, his breath ghosting over her cheek. "No, Elena. I'm just a man who finally realized he doesn't need to pretend anymore."
Her knees wobbled, but she steadied herself. If he thought she would crumble, he was mistaken.
She lifted her chin, meeting his gaze with steely resolve. "Then leave."
His lips curled into a smirk. "Gladly."
Without another word, he turned and walked away, his footsteps echoing down the hall. The door slammed behind him, leaving Elena standing in the hollow silence of what was once their home.
She inhaled sharply, forcing back the tears. He might have walked away, but this wasn't over. Not by a long shot.
She would rise from this. And when she did, Daniel would regret ever underestimating her.
