Cherreads

Chapter 17 - CHAPTER 16

"Who is there?".

She called out again but received no response.

Suddenly, the once calm breeze became aggressive. It ruffled across the room dropping things from the shelves.

Tyra sat up. Barely resting on the bedframe, she drew the blankets closer to her chest. Her heart racing, she was more scared than ever.

Besides the rattling from the shelves, she still felt a powerful presence in the room, hidden beneath the shadows.

She strained her eyes to see figure emerging from the dark. They were silent footsteps, a gush of wind blew out the dim candles. It made the room appear darker.

Tyra's vision was not best at night, it was almost difficult to see. She wanted to scream, call out for help but she couldn't. It was like something heavy got stuck in her throat, preventing her from speaking. Scared to death, she let out soft whimpers, too painful as tears flowed down her cheeks.

Surrounded by a dim blue light, the figure finally emerged from the shadows stretching forth it's arm.

It's features were not clear, almost blurry. But there was something intriguing about it, somewhat familiar. Even though she was scared, she squinted her eyes to get a glimpse of it.

She gasped when she recognised the figure, covering her mouth.

It was her...

She folded her legs, her back pressing against the bedframe. It was painful but she endured. She just wanted everything to stop.

With each step it took towards her, the rattling sounds from the shelves only increased, the ancient paintings hung on the wall fell one by one, each shattering into a million pieces when it made contact with the floor.

Tyra jumped out of bed in fear as the figure Drew closer, her sobs becoming louder.

"Get away from me". She screamed walking backwards, but it didn't stop.

She fell between wooden boxes but didn't mind the pain and crawled into a corner holding her ears crying loudly.

"No, no, it's not me".

She kept repeating these words till she didn't feel it's presence. She searched the dark room.

It had disappeared.

She jerked when a candle fell from its stand on the curtains. The high curtains laid ruffled on the floor beneath the large windows.

In an instant, fire sprawled, burning the curtain.

But there was fire on the candle before. She thought.

She stood up but stopped when she saw her reflection through the burning flames.

There was something different about her, her eyes. It wasn't her usual dark almond eyes. They were white, reflection the image of the flames.

Her heart pounding, her stomach tightened. She staggered backwards.

Headed for the door, she heard its bolt lock. She gasped shivering with fear. She tried unlocking it but it wouldn't open. Then she kept banging on the door, hoping that she would be heard but it was all in vain.

She slid through the door and watched as the fire spread across the room. It had burnt down few sheets, tinctures spilled out from shattered bottles. Then she felt a burning energy surging deep within her.

She recognised it, like her blood boiled, wanting to unleash it's anger. She felt consumed by the flames but she wasn't burning.

With quickened breath, she led out a loud shriek covering her ears. It cut through the glass, shattering every window in the room into pieces.

As she fell to the floor, her body weak and aching, her vision slowly fading away, she remembered everything that happened in the tournament field.

They came back flooding her memories like lightning.

Tyra slowly fell unconscious.

Tamire, the mystery disciple patrolled round the sects in Andoths. It had become a daily routine, so this day wasn't any different.

He perceived the smell of burning flames as he walked into the Healathren's hall way. The pathway was clouded by smoke. It was almost impossible to see.

He traced the source of the fire to the first room in the sect but the door was locked. After several attempts of pushing it open failed, he used a fire torch nearby to break the door.

A small fragment of the wooden door broke, beside the bold. He reached out unlocking it from inside. Covering his face with his elbow, he entered the room.

He coughed severally, irritated by the smell.

It turned out to be a huge fire, nothing was left unscathed.

He noticed an unconscious body on the floor, few inches away from the door.

He carried Tyra carefully in his arms till he got her out of the sect.

It was only after covering her with thick blankets that he noticed that he had brought her to him room.

He acted on impulse.

She looked pale as ashes stained her skin. She had stayed too long in the fire he thought.

Because there was nothing much he could do as she was unconscious, he left the room.

.....

Elsewhere, faraway from the chaos of Andoths,

In the heart of the Palace...

Prince Eric had returned back to Havans after spending two years in the Academy.

He rested in his chambers when Tobey, his personal servant came running in.

"The King has requested for your presence in the dining hall".

He looked at Tobey who was still panting, with hands placed on his knees like he had run a marathon. He looked like he would pass out in few seconds. He thought the man before him had matured with the few years of his absence in the Palace. Well, he guessed wrong.

Eric sighed. He pushed Tobey as he walked passed him to the door.

Tobey crashed to the floor. "I ran without stopping my Lord". His breath still heavy from running.

As Eric passed the guards at the entrance of the hall, he noticed an unfamiliar figure in the room. Her presence was impossible to ignore.

Her white skin, rosy puffy cheeks, with bulgy eyes, bold and sharp. With pointed lips and full red lips. Her curly blonde hair was tied up in a loose bun with few strands dropping to her face, with a golden crown that sat neatly on her head.

She was dressed in a long flay orange corset dress, made of silk. She sat with poise giggling at the jokes the King made.

When Eric's presence was made known, they all turned to him. Their gazes focused on him till he sat down.

He couldn't help but notice the large smile plastered on the Queen's face. He knew there was something huge coming.

"Ever since you came back from the Academy, we haven't had dinner together".

The King said after sipping wine from a silver goblet.

"And now that we are complete, it's only right that we sit and chat over dinner".

He had the same smile as the Queen.

"Well this is Princess Estrella of Hadrons, the daughter of King Owen".

Eric smiled faintly, he already had a clue of what was to happen but hoped it would just remain in his thoughts.

Queen Raina held placed her hands on the King's arm smiling.

"Darling, why don't we leave them to chat for a while?". The King nodded "Of course we should". Their laughter reverberating through the room.

Then she turned towards her son. "Get to know her better, she would be your future wife soon".

Eric leaned back on the dining chair, releasing the cutleries in his hands.

He scoffed...
