The air between them was thick with unspoken words, like a storm brewing on the horizon. Ruhi's heart pounded as she processed Abhi's last words.
I'm yours, Ruhi. But are you really mine?
His voice still echoed in her mind, stirring emotions she wasn't ready to face. She had always thought she had the upper hand, that she controlled this relationship. But in that moment, it felt like the rug had been pulled from under her feet.
"Why would you even ask me that?" she finally found her voice, trying to sound indifferent.
Abhi chuckled, but it wasn't his usual amused laugh. It was darker, laced with something she couldn't quite place. "Because, sweetheart, you act like you own me, but sometimes, I wonder if I even have a piece of you."
Ruhi frowned, folding her arms. "That's ridiculous."
He smirked, but there was no real humor in it. "Is it?"
For the first time, Ruhi felt like she was standing on shaky ground. Abhi had always been the untouchable one, the one who played with people's emotions like a game of chess. And yet, here he was, cracking right in front of her.
"Are you doubting me, Abhi?" she asked, tilting her head. "Because last time I checked, you were the one surrounded by girls, not me."
His eyes darkened, a flicker of something dangerous passing through them. "Jealousy doesn't always come in grand gestures, Ruhi. Sometimes, it's in the little things."
Ruhi crossed her arms, refusing to let him see how much his words affected her. "So, what now? You want me to prove something?"
Abhi leaned in, his breath ghosting over her skin. "I don't need proof. I need honesty."
She swallowed hard. "And you think I'm not honest?"
His lips quirked into a half-smile. "Let's just say... I know a liar when I see one."
Ruhi's pulse quickened. Was that a warning? A challenge? Or worse-did he suspect something?
Before she could respond, Abhi stepped back, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Let's drop it. For now."
Ruhi wanted to push, to demand answers, but she held herself back. Instead, she forced a smirk. "Good. Because you're ruining my mood."
Abhi chuckled, the tension momentarily easing. "Can't have that, can we?"
As they walked back toward the campus, Ruhi couldn't shake the feeling that she had just stepped onto a tightrope-and below her was a fall she wasn't ready for.
She was playing with fire. The question was-would she be the one to burn, or would Abhi?
