Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Self-Destruction, Leaving the Research Facility

'It's not that easy. William still has a G3 form.' Aiden thought to himself.

Although he thought that in his heart, on the surface Aiden still nodded and said, "Claire is right. We should leave. No matter which one of them wins, the result is the same for us."

Whether it was the Super Tyrant or the G-form William, they were both enemies to them. While they attacked each other, everyone tacitly chose not to help either side.

Hoping to gain forgiveness from these monsters by helping them was simply dreaming. Monsters had no humanity.

"Then where do we go now? Leave here? Or continue exploring the research facility?" Jill looked at Claire and Sherry. To be honest, after finding them, she really didn't want to stay here any longer.

"We can go from the power room to the subway station platform and take the train to leave the underground research facility," Claire took out a map of the underground research facility and said, "I found this in the surveillance room."

"Alright, let's go to the underground station." Aiden thought for a moment. The plot of the underground research facility was basically experienced, so it was better to leave early.

None of the people present had any objections. Taking advantage of the moment when G2 William was still fiercely fighting the Super Tyrant, they quietly left the power room area.

———

Not long after the group left, the Super Tyrant and G2 William determined a victor.

The result was that G2 William was defeated and fled.

And as a result of the defeat, at least one-fifth of its flesh was lost, and the pair of secondary arms that had just grown out from its abdomen were also cut off. Its entire body was covered in severe wounds, and even that huge eyeball had a gash, with mixed fluids flowing all over the floor.

If it weren't for the G-virus granting it vigorous vitality and regenerative ability, if it were any other B.O.W., it would've died long ago. Unlike it, which could still escape from the Tyrant's attacks.

Of course, the Super Tyrant didn't gain much advantage either. The G-virus evolved from the T-virus and is actually more powerful. If it weren't for the severe erosion of host consciousness by the G-virus, perhaps the Super Tyrant wouldn't necessarily be able to defeat G2 William.

So it also sustained relatively serious injuries. Precisely because of this, it didn't pursue G2 William, but instead chose to find a safe place to recover.

With its departure, the power room area returned to calm. However, it didn't take long before another group of uninvited guests arrived.

Wolf Pack Squad...

The arrival of the Wolf Pack Squad was not by chance but due to orders from the company. Of course, for the current Wolf Pack Squad, so-called orders were more like a kind of deal.

Yes, a deal.

Since entering Raccoon City on the 28th, they had been fighting continuously for two days and nights with barely any rest.

The fatigue both mentally and physically made them eager to leave this place.

However, when they submitted their request to the company asking for a helicopter to pick them up and leave Raccoon City, the company rejected them.

The reason was simple. They hadn't obtained enough data and samples.

An angry Wolf Mother immediately responded that if they didn't send a helicopter, she would destroy all collected data and samples.

Only then did the company reluctantly compromise, but still issued one final mission: go to the underground research facility to capture and collect G-virus samples and also capture Aiden. Otherwise, even if they destroyed all samples and data, the company still wouldn't send a helicopter.

Caring about her teammates' safety, Wolf Mother had no choice but to agree. Then, using the map sent by the company, they came to the underground research facility from the garbage processing plant.

As a professional special forces team, after entering the underground research facility, they went straight to the surveillance room, using the facility's extensive camera system to locate Aiden's group, and even used the video recording feature to capture the battle between the Super Tyrant and G2 William.

"Found without effort!" Wolf Mother squatted in front of a pile of meat chunks, and a smile appeared beneath her gas mask.

She waved her hand, calling the squad's virus expert, codename Four-Eyes, Christine, to come over and extract a G-virus sample.

"Next, it's capturing that man." Wolf Mother muttered to herself.

———

In the tunnel near the subway platform.

Aiden blasted apart the head of a zombie trying to approach him, peeked into the train tunnel, and after confirming there were no zombies, he waved his hand, signaling the others to follow.

"Does anyone know how to drive a train?" After getting on the platform and seeing the tram parked beside the station, Aiden turned around and asked.

Claire responded first, "Although I once enrolled in a mechanical engineering major in college, I'm sorry, it didn't include driving a tram. But you can ask Leon. Hasn't he always said his driving skills are great?"

"Very good, full marks for your answer. But let's not have him drive. I don't want to crash again." Aiden waved his hand, rejecting Claire's suggestion.

Aiden's words irritated Leon. He grumbled, "That's discrimination. I'm taking you to the human rights court."

"That's great. I really hope your country has that kind of court." Aiden finished speaking and ignored him, turning to Jill and Ada.

Jill simply shrugged at him, clearly indicating, she couldn't.

Aiden didn't expect her to, either. He sighed inwardly. 'So hard to be lazy… looks like I have to do it myself.'

"Let me do it."

Just as Aiden was about to go himself, Ada, who hadn't spoken for a while, spoke up.

As a professional agent, Ada had experience with most vehicles, except for certain special ones. Driving a train was naturally not a problem.

"Please." Aiden made a gentlemanly gesture of invitation.

Ada rolled her eyes at him, turned, and entered the cockpit, only to find that the train's power hadn't been activated. She had no choice but to jump back down and go look for the power switch.

The train's power generator was in the cargo loading area at the rear. Ada took a while to find it. Just as she was about to activate the generator, she suddenly heard intense gunfire.

Ada peeked her head out and found that, at some unknown point, a group of people in black combat uniforms had appeared on the platform, exchanging fire with Aiden's group.

"It's them… the Wolf Pack Squad."

Ada's heart tightened. She immediately gave up starting the generator and picked up her gun to return fire.

In an instant, gunfire erupted across the subway platform.

The Wolf Pack Squad were all ex-professional soldiers, with high levels of training and combat awareness. But after engaging, they didn't gain the upper hand and were even pushed back when trying to advance.

After days of continuous fighting, they had exhausted the ammunition they brought and were now using the same civilian firearms as Aiden's group. In terms of firepower, both sides were evenly matched. Despite having one more person, they didn't actually gain an advantage.

As for Aiden's group, aside from him, everyone else was a proper main character from the Resident Evil series. Even without protagonist buffs, their personal qualities were no worse than professional soldiers. Not to mention Aiden himself, at his current level, he could hold off two by himself.

"Who are they? Why are they shooting at us?" Jill had never seen the Wolf Pack Squad and didn't understand why they started shooting as soon as they arrived. She moved beside Aiden and asked.

"They're Umbrella's lapdogs." Aiden deliberately raised his voice, answering Jill while also trying to insult the other side. But his voice was quickly drowned out by gunfire. The Wolf Pack Squad didn't hear a word.

"No wonder." Jill nodded coldly. Her hatred for Umbrella deepened even more. She even pulled the trigger harder, wishing she could infuse her anger into the bullets.

But she wasn't like Carrie, unable to imbue bullets with psychic power. Doing so only made her finger sore, so she quickly gave up on this unrealistic idea and began seriously aiming and shooting.

However, just as the fight was at its most intense, a beeping alarm suddenly echoed across the platform. But as the battle was already heated, most didn't pay attention. Only Aiden showed a shocked expression after recalling the plot.

He suddenly realized a problem, that Sherry's mother, Annette, might still be alive. Because in the original plot, she was the one who activated the facility's self-destruct system.

The alarm was the announcement before the self-destruct countdown.

Thinking of this, he signaled Ada to quickly start the train. At the same time, the urgent alarm suddenly stopped. Then, a cold female voice replaced it, repeating the same message, [Alert, alert. The facility's self-destruct procedure has been initiated. Countdown to five minutes has begun. This procedure cannot be halted midway. All personnel, please evacuate immediately.]

[Countdown initiated.]

Beep.

Beep.

The platform instantly quieted down. The cold alarm voice and the beeping sound repeating every ten seconds struck like hammers on everyone's heart, making everyone anxious.

Unconsciously, everyone stopped shooting.

Taking the opportunity, Ada returned to the loading area, turned on the generator, then jumped back down and rushed into the train cockpit, somewhat awkwardly starting the train engine.

Hearing the engine start, Aiden waved hard, signaling his teammates to board the train. But he stayed behind to guard in case the Wolf Pack Squad suddenly attacked.

"Aiden." Jill handed Sherry to Claire, who had boarded first. Then, with Leon's help, she got on and shouted to Aiden, "Aiden, get on!"

Aiden nodded and faced the Wolf Pack Squad's direction, slowly retreating toward the train.

———

"Wolf Mother, what do we do now?" On the Wolf Pack Squad's side, the team's medic, Bertha, asked softly.

Wolf Mother didn't answer. She looked at the train beside the platform and felt a wave of regret in her heart. If only they hadn't attacked immediately, and had first shown goodwill, maybe they could have ridden the train together and escaped.

"What else can we do? You think they'll let us on?" Wolf Mother bitterly curled her lips. She felt she had let her teammates down.

Bertha was silent. Of course she knew it was impossible. If she were in their shoes, she wouldn't let enemies ride along either.

"Looks like we're going to die here." Four-Eyes Christine looked at the glass vial with the G-virus sample on her waist, and said in despair.

"Not necessarily."

Beside them, Viktor activated his optical camouflage suit and quietly moved toward the slowly departing train.

As the apprentice of Reaper HUNK, he didn't want to die here. He wanted to live on, together with his teammates.

But he hadn't gone far before a massive, inhuman hand reached down from the ceiling above the platform, grabbing his head in an instant.

"This is… G-William… My God, what has it become?" Wolf Mother looked at the terrifying figure on the ceiling and cried out:

"Save Viktor, quick!"
